Everybody meet The Fates!
Hades: I wish you could block people in real life.
Persephone: Restraining order.
The fates: Murder.
Hadestown Moments That Give Me Life #2
When the Fates go:
“Who
are
you?”
“Where do you think you’re going?”
“Who
are
you?”
in Wait For Me.
interrupting my absence from this blog to present you with this
“you can have your principles, when you’ve got a belly full but hunger has a way with you there’s no telling what you’re gonna do when the chips are down” HADESTOWN (West End 2018, dir. Rachel Chavkin)
Eurydice: You tricked me.
The Fates: We deceived you, Eurydice. “Tricked” makes it sound like we have a playful relationship.
things you can probably (partially or wholly) blame the fates for, if you so choose:
persephone turning to alcohol
hades doubting persephone
hades sending the train for persephone earlier and earlier
hades showing up himself to take persephone home
eurydice moving from town to town
eurydice accepting the invitation to hadestown
orpheus turning around
and, honestly, pretty much every other Bad Decision you can think of
they don’t seem to bother hermes, though, idk what that’s about
hey if someone write hermes?? we should talk??
skyfulcfstars:
persephone trusts the fates about as far as she can throw them, which is to say not at all. the way they’re able to twist and manipulate words into vile, terrible things. but always a constant. they must be, for the role they play in the realm of gods and men. unlike most, however, persephone doesn’t give a damn about what they spout half the time, nor is she afraid of them.
“—-too bad they didn’t grow long enough to shove down your throats.” she mutters, gaze following them one at a time. oh, she knows. hades had once been too confident of a man to ever believe she’d leave him, but doubt comes in from somewhere. persephone sure has hell had never given reason for it - so she knows it’s these three, whispering their words and songs into her lover’s ear until he’s dragged her back down nearly three weeks early. too early. winter is gonna be hard again this year.
“don’t you three ever get tired of raising hell?”
a smile for lachesis, raised eyebrows from atropos, a tip of clotho’s head. if they are offended by the muttered phrase, then none of them show signs of it. (after all, they cannot choke on flowers - - - they are the wind, they are the time that is passing, they are as inevitable as death and even the gods don’t frighten them.)
and isn’t it part of what they want, anyway, to nag the queen of the underworld so? to drive her to distraction?
“raising hell?” lachesis asks, “who, us? seems like you’re the one who does that ‘round here.” atropos chuckles, and for just a moment it sounds like the rumble of a train on the track. “every six months....give or take.”
The Fates: We sensed tension and came as fast as we could!
Hades: I wish you could block people in real life.
Persephone: Restraining order.
The fates: Murder.
The most depressing thing about Hadestown is that at every turn the characters try to be successful or do the right thing and then the Fates appear to make sure it all stays on the inevitable path of failure. In this essay I will
you’re welcome

ok but can anyone explain to me why r.eeve c.arney seems to just...dress like orpheus in his every day life? who is this man. what is he doing.
the fates’ only reaction to being questioned/accused over literally anything is just 🤷🤷🤷
Hades: Hello, Fates. Made anyone cry today?
The Fates: Sadly, no. But it’s only 4:30.
Who are you? Where do you think you’re going? Who are you? Why are you all alone? Who do you think you are? Who are you to think that you can walk a road that no one ever walked before?
