the entire camp is in chaos and hyunbin hasnât been able to find anyone he knows. he canât find his brother, or inha, or even jay and heâs starting to panic. the emotion is settling heavy in his veins and he trips over his own feet as he runs through the forest. heightened hearing comes in handy when he can hear just how far away hunters are from him. heâs spotted them around a few times and is able to avoid them well enough. his nose isnât much help. all he can smell is blood and fear, so strong that itâs disorienting.
his head tilts as he picks up a familiar voice. hoetaek? he thinks. he gets a little closer to where he thinks the voice came from and spots the other hovering over another student, but thereâs a hunter directly across from them. âhoetaek!â he shouts, running for the other. he shifts halfway there and feels the arrow sheath itself between his ribs as he jumps in front of them. thereâs a yelp of pain and he belatedly realizes that itâs his own, but he runs for the hunter instead of registering the pain he knows should be spreading through him. before he knows whatâs happening, thereâs a gaping wound in the hunterâs throat and they fall backwards. hyunbin is able to stand for a moment before the pain finally hits him and he collapses, shifting back to his human form. âfuck, that hurts,â he mutters, looking at the arrow lodged in the side of hisânow nakedâbody.
the sound of someone calling their name catches hoetaekâs attention, and they turn to find the source of it, recognising the voice. âhyunbin?â but no sooner had hoetaek located the werewolf in question then heâs shifting, jumping between hoetaek and the hunter. they hear the sound of the crossbow being fired, and the yelp of pain that escapes from hyunbin, but hyunbin immediately starts attacking, and hoetaek uses this opportunity to help the other student onto their feet and on their way. as soon as theyâre gone, hoetaek turns to find both the hunter and hyunbin on the ground. âshit, hyunbin.â hoetaek doesnât even register that the kid is naked, just the arrow thatâs sticking out of his side. they rush over, kneeling next to hyunbin to assess the damage. the arrowâs lodged pretty deep in there, itâs going to have to come out but itâs not going to be pretty. they reach into their bag and pull out some more of that moss, holding it ready in one hand as the other wraps around the arrow. âokay, take a deep breath in, this is going to hurt even worse, but I promise right after itâll start to get better,â they tell him, doing their best to keep their voice from shaking. âone.. two.. three.â on three, hoetaek pulls, hard, tugging the arrow clean out of the wound. blood immediately begins to pour out of the hole in hyunbinâs side and hoetaek quickly presses the moss to it. they keep one hand there, applying pressure, while the other dives into their bag again, pulling out a small bottle of light green liquid and handing it to hyunbin. âthisâll help,â they tell him before going back into their bag once more, this time for bandages. as they wrap the bandages around hyunbinâs waist, covering the wound and keeping the moss in place, the last few moments fully dawn on them, and they register exactly what happened, what hyunbin just did for them, and their gaze lifts to hyunbinâs face, awe in the expression. âhyunbin... you saved me. holy shit. I... I owe you one.â
