So, just how you you read a kink meme fill?

So glad you asked! You take your link, and a lot of patience, and then you scroll down the page, up to the point you finally see ‘comments’. Your fic will be posted, in sections, in the comments. Sometimes, some authors post their fic on ao3 as well, so maybe looking up the title on ao3 will help! Sometimes, they don’t, and that’s okay as well! ao3’s anonying is way different than lj’s anonying. Also, a lot of people wrote these fills when lj was way more popular than ao3, and never had the chance for whatever reason to copy-paste their fic into ao3.

TL;DR? Your fic is in the comments!

After spending the better part of a thousand years as a professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Merlin had given up hope that he would ever see Arthur again. Then Christmas 1993 happened and Sybil Trelawney wheezed out a prophecy about the return of the Once and Future King.

As ecstatic as Merlin is about the news, he wishes it wasn't because they were slowly approaching the end of all times, with magic itself beginning to fade from the land. Merlin also wishes Sybil had warned him how much more of a brat Arthur would be as a modern teenager, especially because this incarnation of him - terrifyingly - seems to have magic, too.

Somewhere in the Forbidden Forest, Merlin can hear Kilgharrah laughing at him.

Featuring nosy portraits with too much time on their hands, reincarnated knights with a penchant for Quidditch and such a supreme amount of Pendragon prattishness that it is practically a character on its own.

Merlin being a teacher and Arthur being a student isn't one of my favourite tropes but, at the same time, it's a really slow burn and it's really interesting so it's not at fault for that.

Arthur sighs heavily “Are the reports of the same beasts?”

“Well no, not exactly…" Lancelot hesitated "The reports are of a different nature. It’s being said that the King of Camelot is staying in an inn near the Darkling Woods. And that he is on his way to Camelot.”

“Arthur, Camelot needs its King.” “And Camelot will have both its Kings back soon enough, if I have anything to say about it,” Arthur acquiesced. “Me though. My place is with you.”

When Arthur used that voice, it was almost always some bogus gossip story trying to either make them look bad, create a crazy affair for them, or somehow do both at the same time. He grimaced slightly, wondering which one of them and what it would be this time.

Arthur scooted closer and wrapped an arm around him, holding his phone between them so they could both read the screen. “Looks like you’ve got a secret girlfriend I didn’t know about! Who is this Freya Waterson, Merlin? I’m simply heartbroken!” He feigned distress, almost immediately killing the ruse by grinning stupidly.

Arthur & Merlin, well-known actors who play leading characters Brenin & Gwyn in popular show Once & Future, have been together for eight years, everyone knows it! Well... They thought everyone knew it.

I literally love Gwyn's writing more than I love myself, which says a lot about my character, I guess.

This is such a comfort fic for some reason. I always go back to it whenever I am not feeling at my highest.

Merlin has waited centuries for Arthur's return, watching countless wars begin and end without even a hint of him. Though Merlin closes himself off at first, content on living alone, when magical artefacts begin to resurface, he puts himself back out into the world to make sure these stay safe and out of the wrong hands. Who knew discovering Excalibur again would have such a chain reaction?

I do not usually read reincarnation AUs because I prefer canon era - I LOVE the drama - but this one is just too good to skip. Professor!Merlin gives me life.
