It started in the middle of the night, a twisting, insistent pain just below his stomach. Rabbit woke with a pained gasp, curling around himself like he could stop the ailment within. The new position only brought more discomfort and he grimaced, thinking through what remedies were available on the road. Ordon was missing from his side, which meant that the other man was still on watch. Rabbit hoped that he had kept the fire going, so he could fix some tea from his bag and let the warmth ease his body.
He had to get up first, and he wasnât looking forward to that. Slowly, Rabbit sat up, groaning softly all the while. His legs were already sore, threatening a stiff, unsteady walk outside. He stretched and glanced down, seeing that Far had opened his eyes and was silently watching him.
âSorry, I didnât mean to wake you up,â Rabbit whispered, and rolled his eyes when Far easily pushed himself up to join him.
âAre you okay?â Far asked quietly, giving him a somewhat ineffective once-over in the dark.
Rabbit hesitated for a moment before a wave of nausea made him inhale sharply. âCramps,â he admitted through gritted teeth.
âThat sucks,â Far said with an understanding hum. âCan I do anything to help?â
âIâm gonna make some tea,â Rabbit said, a little too breathless for his own good.
âNah, Iâm gonna make some tea,â Far stated, standing despite Rabbitâs attempts to pull him back down. He bent over, only to kiss the top of Rabbitâs head. âGet some rest. Iâll take care of you.â

Summary: Far pulls a very risky, very stupid stunt to escape from a bottle while in his fairy form. Ordon and Chief are left to pick up (or rather, pick out) the pieces.

Far must have known that, if he had explained what he was about to do, Ordon would try to talk him out of it.
Ordon should have known that turning his back was a trap.
He didnât think that Chief would have any more luck opening an enchanted bottle, but he didnât know where Rabbit was and he wasnât about to smash it while his boyfriend was inside. He called Chief inside and started to explain the situation, the other manâs eyes wide as he saw the familiar fairy in a bottle.
Ordon heard a wet crunch behind them, somewhere between breaking bone and glass, and Chief swore outright. He spun around to see Far, full-sized and curled up on the floor, his knees to his chest and his arms over his head. The bottle was gone but his skin almost glittered, blood starting to leak around the vast array of glass shards impaled in his body.
âYou didnât tell me he would do that!â Chief cried, tearing through his bag for a small blade.
Ordon fell to his knees beside Farâs head and checked that his boyfriend was still conscious. âI didnât know!â
Farâs eyes were open and unfocused, and as Ordon checked his pulse he felt him taking quick, shallow breaths. He didnât respond when Ordon lightly touched his face, or when Chief cut his clothes away to see the damage.
âOrdon,â Chief snapped, and he looked up in time to catch a pair of tweezers tossed his way. âHelp me, I canât do all of this before he starts to heal around it.â
Ordon swallowed hard and whispered an apology to Far before he closed his tweezers around a shard of glass and pulled.
It didnât take long before Far snapped out of his daze, moaning in pain as Ordon and Chief raced against his bodyâs healing. Ordon tried not to let his hands shake and kept his voice low as he asked, âCanât you give him something so he doesnât feel it?â
Chief scowled, shaking his head. âNo time. And I need him awake to tell me if we missed any.â
Ordon shuddered and nodded, moving on to the next piece. He was starting to meet resistance as Farâs skin attempted to heal over the glass.
Far was trying- and failing- to blink tears away as Ordon extracted the last shard he could find. He looked at Chief, who had done the same, but the medic hadnât relaxed yet.
âFar,â Chief said urgently. âDo you feel any we missed?â
âI donât know,â Far whined.
Chief grabbed Farâs arm, pressing and watching for a reaction. He worked his way down until his hand closed around Farâs palm.
Far screamed.
âYeah, I found it too,â Chief muttered, already reaching for a blade that looked much more precise than the first.
Far lifted his other arm, possibly to push him away, and Ordon took his hand before he could interfere. He let Far squeeze his hand, knowing that he would be very bruised by the time Chief was done cutting the glass out of his boyfriendâs skin.
Finally, Chief set Farâs hand down and confirmed that he was free of glass. Ordon lifted Farâs head to rest in his lap, smoothing his thumb over his palm as he watched the other one heal. Far closed his eyes and Ordon let him rest. Later, Ordon could tell him that he never wanted to see him do that again.
