New Belief Systems
This is less an observation and more of a prediction. During times of great uncertainty and upheaval, people seek out something to hold onto and to believe in, 2020 is just such a time. Even with the success of the Biden Harris campaign bringing some good cheer, this will not stop the tide of polarising views, fake news vitriol, pandemic confusion, killer hornets and more. In the 70′s there were a raft of alternative religions and cults that cropped up in amongst the Vietnam war, cold war, civil rights movement and assassinations. Then as now, the earths population were intrigued and horrified by political shenanigans on a global scale. Whilst we go through our global panic, in the West we have seen the decline of religion, the vacuum created by that dearth of belief has resulted in a growth in alternative beliefs. Not all of them are new, Crystals, the Moon, Yoga, Tarot decks, etc. But what is new is the sheer number of people who are not only passive believers but active participants who believe in their own or someone else's spiritual power. T There are growing numbers of personal Shamans, and people seeking to know “the truth”, sometimes it’s the “truth” of Qanon, and sometimes it’s the truth of the value of Mindfulness another growing “cult” belief. I suspect we will start to see the emergence of the cult of spiritual personalities, much like we saw in the 80′s. Some will be “all-loving” kind people, and others will not be, as people seek out the “god” that they choose for themselves. - BR
