Intro Post!!

I wasn't sure if I should do one of these or not, but since it seems to be a customary practice on this site, I figured that it would be a pretty low-stakes way to introduce myself/how I run this blog for those who are curious!

I'm Hyliaphora (HP for short), but you can really call me whatever nickname you want. I'm big on gaming, art, writing, composing, entomology, chemistry, math...if it exists, I can probably find a way to take interest in it. "The jack of all trades, master of none, is oftentimes better than master of one!" and all.

Swearing warning: I try to keep my blog relatively friendly (no r34, no real-life politics, etc.) but I do frequently swear. So...I might not be for you if cursing isn't something you want to see.

Some of my current favorites are the Pikmin series, Bug Fables, and Voices of the Void...but I really have a lot of variety in what I enjoy. I love reblogging game fanart, so expect a lot of that here on top of my own fanart!

WRITING/WORLDBUILDING!!

I'm working on writing and drawing my own comic series! At the moment, I'm in the final stages of character/setting design refinement and the early stages of drafting the script. This project is my baby and it consumes my every waking moment. I'll reblog writing/art tips and motivational posts from time to time to save as reference, and I love hearing about other people's OCs and stories!

MUSIC!!

I do my own MIDI compositions to go along with my comic as well as occasional video game OST remixes, and I love seeing people post their own songs! Outside of online/video game music, some of my favorite genres are metal, prog rock, electroswing, and eastern USA folk music of all kinds.

I don't know if you can call 'anti-genAI sentiment' a 'fandom', but I do partake in discourse surrounding that topic on this blog. My personal stance on AI is that while machine learning can be useful for advancing many sciences (archaeology, medicine, etc.) the type of generative AI being excessively marketed to the broader population at the moment is redundant and lame. If you have a story to tell, your art is more valuable now than ever. Do not become discouraged!

-A tag for all personal stuff. The frequency of this will probably fluctuate throughout the year, and I'll try to make sure that I don't vent too much on here. There most likely won't be anything legitimately distressing in there, but since I'm pursuing some pretty rigorous subjects academically, I'll most likely make some "I'm going to pull my hair out" posts with a degree of semi-frequency during the semester.

-I don't really have a DNI list; the way I cultivate who I interact with is the block button. If you aren't someone I want to see on my feed (porno blog, excessive asshole to groups of people for no reason, deliberate untagged AI generated images, etc.), I will block. That being said, if you're taking the time to read this, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I primarily use the tag blocking feature for filtering out content pools I don't care to engage with, and that's my main way of regulating what I see from people I follow. Just thought I'd be transparent with this in order to avoid any future drama/confusion!

Accidentally completely deleted a drawing I was working on earlier today, so I finished this to calm down. I'm proud of how it came out!

I love Look Outside so much. Such a fun game! One chance with Hellen PLEASE!! Anyway...

I reckon Lyle would love whimsical patterns, but overall looks super nerdy. I would've added patterns to his vest, but I limited myself to four colours, one of which I used exclusively for skin. I do think he'd wear a lot of button-up shirts. Probably looks like a maths teacher half the time.

I unintentionally made him look pretty tall. Hellen is huge, and he's not that short by comparison here. Whoops. I think he'd be more on the average to tall side, rather than super tall like she is.

Hellen's hair was super fun to draw. It's so shaped. The official sprites are limited by their size, so it gives some room for interpretation with hair textures. It's nice to see the different types of textured hair people give her!

Likewise, I've seen people give her turtlenecks and jumpsuits. I think the official art is supposed to be a jumpsuit, but I like the turtleneck idea. No idea when the game takes place, but Montreal would get super cold. I think she'd wear a turtleneck underneath her jumpsuit anyway. Covers more skin, so it's easier to hide blood with.

I was worried her boots being dark would draw the focus away from her face, but I think it adds focus to it. Her palette is super dark, so her mask and cleaver being the lightest colours draws the eye.
