Light Setting Tests
Testing final assemblage in the dark
Exterior holographic material coverin
Chosen method is small wheels on the edges of the mirror prism. The lining of the outer pipe is a polypropylene fabric
Trying to find method to allow the pipes to spin, tried fabric
Brainstormon how to contruct the inner tube. After talking to Antony we came up with an inner tube that did not need to be circular.
Material pricing and measurements for inner rings
Inner rings
Modelling in sketchup and laying out on a sheet for laser cutting. These are the current inner rings that allow the spinning to happen in the kaleidoscope. They are made from 6mm thick mdf which has been lasercut to create an easy way to assemble several layers together and create a thick ring.
Testing out the lashing knows in the awful weather of wellington - It’s sturdy, its moveable and flexible - but it you can’t pull out which is perfect for what we want to do
Left it out from 10:30am Thursday to 8:00am Friday
Looking at Japanese Square Lashing - as well as fun aesthetic for the tube to be more inviting, more kid friendly with a touch of adventure
added larger markings to allow light in, create a better effect
Week 9 Class
Feedback
Attachment method - knots with rope - scaffolding research - test how much weight you can get away with
Why? - story? narrative? experience? - why don’t you have it standing on the ground? Possible new materials - large PVC outer pipe - two way mirror
Tasks for next week
Greer - outside aesthetic concepts Megan - Internal mirror structure, what creates the coolest effect Soph - Testing attachment Irina - Spinning mechanism, barrier between layers. Considering spiral LED lights in outer pipe
Liv - Testing lenses at either end of structures, tranparent but colourful/wharped
kaleidoscope mirrors blacked out with holes to allow minimal light in. Possible method of getting LED light into large kaleidosope
