I was looking at some modern art today and noticed immediately how intrinsically hypnotic it can be. I’m no artist or art historian by any means, so I knew next to nothing about the art itself, but all I could think about while looking at the paintings was bringing someone down into trance with the paintings.

I’d instruct them to just stare into the painting, really focus on its form, and they may begin to notice that as they stare harder, focusing more intently on the form, that the form begins to change. Maybe they notice that just as they think they unlocked the meaning of the painting, the form changes and they need to focus even harder on it. And as the form constantly changes, they have to focus more, and more, and more. And as they focus on the art, I’d focus on my soon to be canvas’ body language, its eyes growing heavier, its body growing more relaxed, distracted by the painting, barely paying attention to my words. And as I see their eyes growing heavy and their body start to sway with relaxation, a simple command of sleep escapes my lips, entering their ears and going straight to the core of their mind. And once my mind enters the core of their mind they have no choice but to obey- collapsing into my grasp as I save them from the floor. Of course gently rocking them deeper into trance as I rub their back and tell them how good they’re doing.

The scene continues with me instructing them to continue staring at the painting as they chant an obedience mantra in their head, over, and over, and over again. Until there’s nothing left.
