more annabeth because I love her
good morning everyone today i have woken up with AU brainrot and im about to make it everyone's problem
Annabeth 🧢❤️
in greek
Friends, that is racism most be my new fucking favorite rick riordan's quote ever
Thinking about how Percy being a ‘seaweed brain’ in Annabeth’s eyes can actually be used to explore more of black culture on television and opportunity to normalize things black beauty and self-care over the typical white trends. i.e.
*Annabeth has her weave ripped out during battle*
*Percy ungodly screeching*
Annabeth: What? I’m fine-
Percy: I- he pulled out your hair?
Annabeth: It isn’t my real hair, seaweed brain. I’ll be fine. I- did you think I had naturally blonde hair?
Percy: ….no. I figured it was dyed.
Annabeth: uh-huh.
Percy: What do you mean… it isn’t… your real hair?
Annabeth: you know how white people have extensions? It’s like that but sewn in.
Percy, softly: holy shit…. that actually still sounds like it hurts-
Or
Percy: stop being mean. I know you have a spare toothbrush.
Annabeth: It isn’t my fault you forgot to pack one. And no i don’t!
Percy: You do! I see it!
Annabeth: I only have two!
Percy: HOW MANY TEETH DO YOU HAVE?!?!
Annabeth: You’re such a seaweed brain. It’s for my edges.
Percy: Oh. Right. Of course.
*silence*
Percy: Hey, what are edges?
Annabeth: If you were allowed a phone, I would make you google these things.
*Fast Forward to Son of Neptune*
Hazel: I’m going to bed
Frank: Night!
Percy: Night- wait. Where’s your scarf?
Hazel: What?
Percy: Aren’t you supposed to wear a scarf to keep your hair nice while you sleep?
Hazel: I… yes, but I didn’t have time to pack one?
Percy: I have an extra don’t worry.
Hazel: What? Why?
Percy: I literally have no idea. I can’t even remember my last name.
Frank: But you remember how to take care of her hair?
Percy: I can’t help what my brain prioritizes.
Bonus: Make Paul black so that baby Estelle is mixed and Percy ends up being a pro at doing her hair because he’s watched Annabeth get her hair done so many times.

lost in the woods, somewhere in new jersey,
new adaptation is making me so excited :)
black annabeth means black magnus. black chases!!!! im actually so happy about this oh my god
OP HOLY FUCKIN SHIT-
Like do people realize how much this casting enriched Annabeth’s character? I never bought that “people don’t respect me because I’m blonde” schtick. But girls of color, and specifically black girls being underestimated? That’s real life.
Also, and equally important, black girls are going to get to see themselves as the smartest and most capable person in the room AND also the most beautiful girl in the world to the main character.
let's hear it for our annabeth!!! so so excited for her!!!
Hair extensions and dye exist if they decide the hair color is that vital to the story. But it isn't really.
The "dumb blonde" stereotype Annabeth was overcoming in the novels was much more of an 80s~90s (and very early 2000s) cultural thing that doesn't hold the same level of relevance as a trope and assumption about people today in 2022. (Legally Blonde and Clueless were 2001 and 1995.)
What is very real today? Black girls and women are too often stereotyped as irrational, over-emotional, temperamental, and uneducated despite being (one of if not) the most educated demographic in the US -- making casting Annabeth as a black girl is a great update to her thematic struggle with stereotypes about her intelligence and ability to be the strategic leader the character is.
I started reading the Percy Jackson books when I was ten, as they were first coming out. I felt an immediate connection with Annabeth. She was a 12-year-old blonde girl who was tough, and smart, and brave, and a huge nerd. I was a scrawny blonde 5th grader who was smart, and tried to be tough, and tried to be brave, and got a lot of “dumb blonde” jokes lobbed at me. I loved seeing myself in Annabeth. She meant a lot to me growing up - and her character still means a lot to me now, 16 years later.
And. I am so, so excited for Leah Sava Jeffries to play Annabeth Chase. I am so, so excited for Black girls to see themselves in her too; to see themselves portrayed as tough, and smart, and brave, and nerdy. I am so excited for all the kids watching this show to see Annabeth Chase as a Black girl. It meant so much to privileged little me to see a smart blonde girl fight and think and love her way through the world of Percy Jackson and I believe with my whole heart that it means even more to see a smart Black girl do that. Blonde Annabeth was important to me, and so is Black Annabeth. These things are both true.
I hope that Disney and Rick do Leah justice. I am confident that Leah will do justice to Annabeth.
I am so excited for this girl, and I am so excited to see PJO come to life in a way that reflects the heart and soul of the books I grew up with.
Here’s looking at you, Annabeth Chase
There's a reason people would rather write about culture shock and bilingualism and being from another country with Nico, who arguably remembers very little about Itália, rather than Reyna. The reason is racism
I never learned to shut up and. As much as I love Nico which I do he's the little gnome I keep in my garden to ward off evil spirit and as much as I think his character allows for a huge amount of delving n probing like a dead frog which nearly all main PjO+HoO characters do (cause despite how much criticism Riordan deserves he does throw a mean right hook in deep character material) there is still some. Weird way this fandom will willingly look for things in his character that are already text in others. This happens w Leo (being the odd one out, feeling excluded + homelessness as a kid) and with Hazel a whole lot and it's just one of those wormy ways racism shows up in fandom. Like ye maybe a part of it is that Nico is a huge fan favourite and it is Rlly fun to write him but at some point white fans gotta stop and wonder why it is that they're more interested in assigning fanon or expanding on canon traits or storylines or trauma on a white character rather than just delving into it in a character of colour that already has those in canon
have we talked about nico and bananas yet. imagine the first time he eats a banana in the 21st ventures and he’s just “hey now… what did you do to this banana” and then someone has to explain to him that bananas went just a little extinct
