#196. Espeon

Verdict: Cute

I would be mercilessly harassed until the end of time if I said any of the Eeveelutions are not cute. They've all got big eyes, small mouths and noses, expressive ears, and a feline/canine/vulpine body shape.

Everyone has their favorite Eeveelution. However, I think you can tell a little about a person's personality by asking whether they prefer Espeon or Umbreon. I personally prefer Espeon over Umbreon. Espeon is cute in an alien-cat sort of way. Espeon would be a Pokémon I'd like as a pet in real life.

#195. Quagsire

Verdict: Cute

This Pokémon goes in the same category as Slowpoke and Psyduck as the emptyheaded, derpy cute Pokémon. Saying this Pokémon is extremely popular is still understating it.

Design-wise, Quagsire is round, smooth line all over. Even inside its skull. No lumps on that brain.

#194. Wooper

Verdict: Cute

I used to think this Pokémon was incomplete due to it not having arms. Therefore, I used to think it wasn't cute and was "dumb." Thankfully, I've developed as a person beyond my 10 year old self and can see why this Pokémon is popular.

In Japan, axolotls are seen as very cute. Wooper is based off axolotls if you did not know. For those of you who have never seen an axolotl before it looks like this:

Per my disclaimer in every post, "cuteness is in the eye of the beholder" whether you see this creature and go "aww" or "eww" is ultimately on you. (hehe) Wooper fits in that derpy cute category like Slowpoke.

#193. Yanma

Verdict: Not cute

Would Yanma be cuter if the green "mask" it has to invoke the image of a real dragonfly's eyes were actually just giant eyes or would it be nightmare fuel?

#192. Sunflora

I'm not sure how to place Sunflora actually. It's head and face are super cute. I don't think Sunflora is even physically capable of frowning. The body when given more thought is a bit dorky. This Pokémon is happiness and sunshine distilled into a purer form. Those two things are not solely the domain of cuteness. Something can be cool, elegant, etc. and feel joyous at the same time (for example wedding clothes).

Verdict: Cute

But just barely.

#191. Sunkern

Verdict: Cute

This little sunflower seed is another very round Pokémon, broken up by the sprout on its head. How the stripes on its body continue up past its eyes to look like glam, luscious eyelashes adds to its appeal. I read somewhere a comic that Sunkern is constantly practicing its smile for when it evolves. It was an unofficial comic, but it feels canonical and makes Sunkern even more endearing.

#190. Aipom

Verdict: Not cute

Its face is horrifying despite not trying to be, and that fat hand for a tail is also unpleasant to think about. If they did Aipom in that semi-realistic style from the Detective Pikachu movie, everyone would be icked out by the tail. And the face. Aipom would need Mr. Mime levels of sass to make it endearing to audiences. Which it doesn't have, it's more a troublemaker and I can see this Pokémon easily becoming a hate-sink.

That bad logic is the basis for my argument that Aipom is not cute.

#189. Jumpluff

This Pokémon has one of the saddest Pokédex entries in the entire series. "Jumpluff travels on seasonal winds. Once its cotton spores run out, its journey ends, as does its life."

Verdict: VERY SAD D:

Oh, about its design whether it's cute or not?

Verdict: Not cute

It has all the cute elements. Round, round, round, small face, round... It shares the colors of my all time favorite, but why is it not cute? The balance of its design. While it's composed of many circles, they're places in a cross like shape. Looking at its silhouette it looks more like a model image for a chemical composition or like a nucleus with its surrounding electrons.

#188. Skiploom

Verdict: Not cute

Why is Skiploom not cute? It's round with a pretty flower on its head. It is close to derpy cute like Slowpoke, but doesn't hit the mark. It also has the middle stage evolution forgettableness about it. There isn't much to write home about this Pokémon. Or much to write about at all; and therefore, the end.

#187. Hoppip

Verdict: Cute

Take Jigglypuff, squish it down to make it a bit more squat, and then attach two leaves to its head and you basically have Hoppip. End of story.

#186. Politoed

Verdict: Cute

Politoed is cute, but like in a generic kind of way. To me, Politoed doesn't even look like a Pokémon anymore. As if it could be a frog creature in any critter collecting game. A rather uninspired design, but uses general cuteness to be something more than just frog monster.

#185. Sudowoodo

Verdict: Not cute

This Pokémon is entertainingly funny though. I love the concept. Fake tree, hates water, sucks at being a fake tree. I wish these gimmicky, jokey Pokémon were more competitively viable. It would be hilarious to see Sudowoodo take down champions because it had a killer combo move set or something. Then everyone would have a Sudowoodo and unwittingly create a fake forest or something.

#184. Azumarill

Verdict: Cute

Perhaps my pure love for Marill extends to the entire evolution line creating bias, but Azumarill has cute traits that can not be denied.

Azumarill is still quite round. The body is more of an egg shape and with the long, rabbit-like ears it can be a bit reminiscent of Easter.

#183. Marill

Verdict: CUTE!!!

I will start with saying I am absolutely biased here. Marill is my all time, no challenge, hands-down, number one favorite Pokémon. I have a collection of over 100 different Marill goods in a locked glass case.

I received a Marill plush toy as a Christmas present when I was 10 years old. It was instant connection. Even to this day I still have that plush toy and bring her with me to important events (I even brought her to my wedding).

Marill is so very round. One of the roundest Pokémon available. Round body, round ears, round tail. It has stubby arms and legs compared to its body as well as a small face.

I am not shy in saying I love this Pokémon and will always put Marill or Azumarill on my team in any game that allows me to. I won't even switch Marill's spot out for a different Pokémon, even if it results in a sub-optimized team.

#182. Bellossom

Verdict: Cute

It's a little dancing flower creature. It does have some elegant design elements, but it being small is a contributing factor to its cuteness. Bellossom may be the first of Pokémon's tendency to add a feminine grass type/plant adjacent Pokémon in each generation of games.

#181. Ampharos

Verdict: Not cute

Despite all the images I post about each Pokémon usually upping its charm factor by several times, I try to stick to the official art when I make my decision on whether a Pokémon is cute or not.

Ampharos has lost all the fluff its previous forms have. While it regains some fluff in its mega evolution, I feel that fluff, especially the hair, gives it a more regal and majestic aura.

It still is a rather round Pokemon in its lines, but it is long and tall which has stretched out the round shape.

#180. Flaaffy

Verdict: Cute

STILL FLUFFY! Fluffy is even part of this Pokémon's name. Not a cute as Mareep in my opinion as it has lost most of the fluff on its body. A soft pink color with baby blue eyes and orb on its tail key this Pokémon as still child-like despite being a mid-stage evolution. The body is made of soft, rounded lines with stubby arms and legs in proportion.
