Creating in silence is better

I've heard some artists say "I can't draw without listening to music" but is that a question of artistic quality, or of wandering attention?

I discovered I've actually been depriving myself of something if I multitask when I draw. Usually I'd draw with some kind of background noise going- youtube, podcasts, or Star Trek. But I recently decided to start drawing in silence for a totally different reason- I've been struggling to think of story ideas, and I remembered that sometimes my mind would wander off to cool and interesting places while I was drawing without doing anything else. So it was just my attempt to brainstorm more often and get more of the story figured out for this webtoon.

But then I discovered that drawing in silence actually brought me far more joy than drawing while doing something else. I mean, it sounds strange, obviously drawing brings me joy, why else would I do it. But when I give it my full attention, I just started to receive so much more positive feedback from it than I used to. A serotonin machine that I had been neglecting entirely. I dunno. But you need to try it some time.
