New venue, but nothing changes
By Mason Kelley CoachSark.com
PALO ALTO, Calif. â When Steve Sarkisian explains how he wants his players to view playing away from home, Washingtonâs coach compares road trips to Broadway shows that travel the world.
For the Huskies this weekend, the only thing that changes is the stage.
âThis is our stage and tomorrow night is show time,â Sarkisian said after Washingtonâs walkthrough Friday. âThatâs all it is. Thereâs no difference. Those great Broadway shows they have in New York, when they do so well, they take them on the road. They take them to L.A. They take them to Seattle. They take them to Europe. People want to see it.
âThis is our stage. Nothing changes. The routine doesnât change. The acts donât change. The calls donât change. The only thing that changes is the venue.â
He kept his message short. And, before the team left Stanford Stadium to walk back toward the bus, Sarkisian said, âWeâre all weâve got.â
Then his players shouted in unison, âWeâre all we need.â

My Bucket List for 2013
The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who's going to stop me. - Ayn Rand
I'm not one for making resolutions but I love making a good list!! Here's some things I'd love to cross off in 2013 (in no particular order):
Make my new place a warm and inviting home. Have lots of friends over!!
See Sugarland in concert!
Complete another 'Read the Bible in One Year' plan
Learn how to use my external camera flash more effectively
Get a puppy!!
Continue to eat healthy - no weight loss goal...just want to keep going until my body settles on it's healthy weight.
Join a gym!!
Volunteer at the Puyallup or Sumner Food Bank
Ride horses
Shin splints willing...jog a 5K!
Marry K & T w/o bawling through the whole thing!!! ;)
Read more books for pleasure and not just for work!
Keep my focus on what I have and not on what I do not
Continue to learn and grow...be open to new people and new things!!!
Go to the Husky's Bowl Game next year (yes..I'm going out on a limb and claiming the fact that they will be in one!)
More friend trips!!
Tattoo?? (seriously thinking about this one...)
Love people! Love people! Love people!Â
Well that's it for now...I'm sure I'll add to this list from time to time during the year :).
Tips/Tricks on Taking Better Mobile Pics
Last night I went to a fabulous workshop taught by Seattle PI's award-winning photographer JoshTrujillo.Â
I wanted to jot down my takeaways so that I could refer back to them from time to time. Thanks Josh for sharing all your ideas and encouragement with us!
You always have your Phone with you. Don't be afraid to use it! Shoot lots in order to get 'that' shot.
Look for the light first...then wait for the moment.
NEVER use the flash on a smartphone!
Using two hands and bracing your elbows in gives better stabilization when you take pics and less motion blur.
Shoot pics from heights other than eye level. Gives a unique perspective that our eyes don't see every day.
Use sunglasses as a glare filter and binoculars as a zoom lens...fun idea!!
Mount phone to a fully extended monopod. Set timer on phone camera. Lift monopod above head for a unique view/perspective. Great for crowd shots.
Look for brightest spot in picture and set manual exposure to that.
Light matters!
Josh used a giant light source to represent the sun/nature light to show how light matters and changes a picture drastically. Look for the light first!
Josh demonstrating how to stabilize your phone for a better/sharper picture.
Josh shared tons of his great mobile shots with us which really helped me as a visual learner. I also enjoyed watching my friend Evonne stalking him throughout his presentation ;). Thanks for the invite Evonne...so glad I went!
Video for @Phillips 'Home.' Couldn't love it more! Â #MusicILike #PhillipPhillips
Today marks the 105th birthday of Frida Kahlo!
Known for her fantastical imagery and folkloric style, Kahlo earned recognition among the Surrealists, but her intriguing persona and originality propelled her beyond the confines of a specific movement to become a leading figure in modern art.
Pictured: photos taken during our 2008 Frida Kahlo retrospective, when artist Rene Yanez gathered many actresses at SFMOMA to portray the iconic and much beloved artist for a piece called âPasion por Frida.â

I'm in love...you are beautiful Seattle!! (pic via KING 5's weather app)
A True Moment of Sweetness
Adult fan on left, after catching a foul ball at Safeco Field, looked around our section and spotted a young fan to my right. After making eye contact he tossed the ball up to the boy who then proceeded to stare at the ball in amazement for several minutes. A grin appeared from under the ball cap as he slowly looked away and cast his eyes back upon the ball field.Â
...and the rest of the story? After posting this pic on Facebook, KING5 in Seattle shared it on their Facebook page. The picture resonated with their fans and over 700 people 'liked' the post, 55 shared it, and over 80 commented on it...included the family members of the adult fan. One small gesture...so many smiles given!Â

Even during the winter, Seattle has those sunsets where you race home and grab your camera, hoping for a chance to capture a piece of it.
