i remember lying on a deflated blow up mattress in my friend’s apartment in NYC, crying as the Hudson river blew the coldest air I had ever felt

i wrote 5 poems that night convincing myself I would let you hurt me

i confessed to you that night i was terrified of liking you

i find myself now in a warm quilted bed listening to your soft snores and your warm purple light draping your walls covered in posters and guitars

the way your curly hair falls on your pillow, your chest rising with every breath

and even though your snores are getting louder and louder, I would listen to them for lifetimes if it means i get to share this bed with you

so i’ll kiss your back to make the snoring stop for a few minutes

and lie in your bed knowing i am no longer terrified to like you
