Record Store Day
So tomorrow is Record Store Day as most of you know. Labels put together really great releases and reissues EXCLUSIVELY at your local shop. There will be a bunch of labels trying to sell you new stuff and have discounted sales online; PLEASE don’t buy them, there was a reason RSD was created and it has been a huge success bringing back a community of people to recognize and appreciate what record stores do for all of us in music. Those labels have every other day of the year to pull you in, it’s really unfair to drain people of their money before they get the chance to sleep the night before Record Store Day. I Am Shark’s store will be closed tomorrow for that fact.  All I ask, is that you get up off of your ass tomorrow, go to your local shop, and take a chance on a new album or buy record that means the world to you. Thanks - Craig

STORE FEATURE OF THE WEEK: Explosions in the Sky - The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place http://iamshark.limitedrun.com/products/522017-explosions-in-the-sky-the-earth-is-not-a-cold-dead-place-2xlp Explosions In The Sky’s The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place like many other music fans, was a huge gateway for my music tastes into the world of post-rock / ambient / shoe gaze (i.e. the good boring stuff). This band really brings it all to the table through an entire album. They building mountains of twinkling guitar swells and melodic picking, then set a sweeping fire to the scene with a dramatic crescendo of aggressive droning and drums that march towards the songs unravel. The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place will have your mind memorize all of the timing between the notes and picking apart each instrument to focus on. This album is perfect mix to either give full listening attention too or just for background music while your focus is elsewhere, motivating you heedlessly. After I was hooked with this album, playing it through and through, I wanted to get a close friend with similar musical tastes into this record as well. At first it didn’t work, played it a few times, not even a brief mention or ask of what was playing. Then after a show and late night of hanging out in Pittsburgh, I decided to put this album on during the drive home as it helped me concentrate on the road. The opening track takes a little bit to build into the groove, and for some reason that night; the drive timed out perfectly. We drove through and out of the Fort Pitt Tunnels opening up to an immaculate view of Pittsburgh’s skyline all lit up and glowing against a black night sky. My friend looked over and wide eyes and demanded to know what this album was, he was captivated by everything that was going on, and it was refreshing to see someone get excited about music again. At that point, I really understood the importance of personal environment and surroundings that are involved into listening to music. This really propelled me to take a step into the world of soundtracks / scores as I wanted to give people that compelling moment and feeling they got during a certain scene in a film when their attention sparks up. http://iamshark.limitedrun.com/products/522017-explosions-in-the-sky-the-earth-is-not-a-cold-dead-place-2xlp

STORE FEATURE OF THE WEEK:
Damiera - M(US)IC
http://iamshark.limitedrun.com/products/512362-damiera-m-us-ic-lp There aren’t many records out there that leave me in awe after years of constant replaying, but Damiera’s first full-length album, M(US)IC, has definitely held its ground and made a strong keystone in my music collection. I’m fortunate enough to have seen these intricate and compelling songs played live countless times, and it still hasn’t lost it’s taste. This album has a perfect blend of angular math rock and catchy pop riffs, and you’ll be hearing new drum fills and noodly guitar lines every listen. M(US)IC was reissued on 180 gram clear vinyl by Vega Vinyl and we have a few copies still left in the store, which I highly suggest you pick up and call your own. For fans of: At The Drive In, Faraquet, Into It. Over It., The Fall of Troy http://iamshark.limitedrun.com/products/512362-damiera-m-us-ic-lp
