here's a Cahill friend group short fic that I like but don't feel like actually finishing it (at least not rn):
Between the dozens of explosions, gunshots, and collisions, none of the Cahills liked fireworks very much. The honored tradition of their New Years parties usually ended right around midnight, as red and green and blue lit up the sky and the Cahills tried to prevent a mass panic.
Amy’s living room was quiet. It was technically everybody else’s, but Amy had designed it with oak and books, and so everybody instinctively turned to her before moving any of the furniture or taking up the whole space. The windows were shuttered and the TV was playing softly in the background, not that anybody was paying attention.
Cara perched at the edge of the couch, her knees pulled to her chest. She didn’t have nearly the same experiences as the others, but she couldn’t pretend that it wasn’t…reminding her of things. But there was no doubt that she was handling it the best out of everybody.
Amy sprawled on the couch with her head in her girlfriend’s lap—speaking off, Sinead Starling was eagerly chatting about something or another, even though it looked like Amy was about to pass out, and Sinead uncharacteristically stuttered when there was a particularly loud firework. Hamilton pretended to watch the TV, while Ian and Jonah shared a pair of wired earbuds. Jonah bopped along to whatever they were listening to, while Ian stayed perfectly still and silent, lost in thought.
Cara glanced at the TV, where a magic battle on the top of a mountain unfolded. She thought that it would be Hamilton’s thing, but he suddenly turned around and spoke.
“Remember Everest?”
Everybody paused. The emotions on their faces were so mixed that Cara knew it could only be referring to before.
“You were there?” Ian asked.
Hamilton looked vaguely offended. “Yeah!”
“I think we were a bit focused on your dad,” Amy said apologetically. “He was…an issue.”
“As always,” Ian muttered, but when Hamilton threw a pillow at him, he grinned.
Cara almost felt that spark of insecurity of having missed all these years, until she noticed Sinead and Jonah looking around confused.
“What do you mean, Everest?” Sinead asked.
“Like, Mount Everest?” Jonah almost laughed before noting the others very serious expressions.
“Yeah, when we were in China,” Amy supplied. “After you and Dan separated.”
Jonah threw his earbud to the ground and covered his face with his hands. “You guys went to the top of Mount Everest while I was busy arguing with my mom?”
“If it helps, I wouldn’t recommend it,” snarked Ian. He shuddered. “Cold.”
“Didn’t I see you fall over the edge?” asked Hamilton.
Both Amy and Ian paused. “Yeah. And I lost the Janus serum.”
“The Janus serum was up there and I was busy arguing with my mom?”
“How aren’t you dead?” Sinead asked.
Ian gestured to Amy. “She has incredible core strength.”
Amy, Ian, and Jonah have formed a book club. It’s Jonah’s turn to pick what they read. And he picks Shakespeare. Again.
Very minor spoilers for Into the Gauntlet. Set in January 2012 so Amy and Ian are both 18 and Jonah is 19.
“I pick When You Were Mine by Rebecca Serle.” said Jonah.
Ian pulled out his phone, typed something in, and then looked up a moment later. “No.”
“What do you mean ‘no’?”
“I mean we’re not reading that.”
“Yes, we are. It’s my turn to pick. That’s what I pick. That’s what we’re reading.”
“No. Not happening.”
“Ian, it is his turn.” Amy said.
“It’s a Romeo and Juliet retelling.” Ian argued.
“Jonah, we said no more Shakespeare.”
“Shakespeare didn’t write it.”
Amy had not looked this exasperated since the last meeting between the branches ended in a screaming match. “It’s a retelling, he came up with all the major beats. He might as well be a coauthor.”
“You only explicitly banned Shakespeare. You said nothing about retellings.”
“It’s implied.” Ian snapped.
“It is not.”
“I told you three weeks ago that if you picked Shakespeare again, then you’d be forfeiting your turn. So. Amy, what do you want to read?”
“This is such bullshit. It’s my turn. We’re reading what I picked.”
“No. We are not.” Ian said. “You made me suffer through Hamlet, The Tempest, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and The Taming of the Shrew. Shakespeare is banned from this book club until the end of next year. Majority decided, majority rules. We are not reading Romeo and Juliet.”
“It’s not even about them, it’s about Rosaline. The girl Romeo was supposed to marry before he met Juliet.”
“Oh, my mistake. It’s about Rosaline. That changes everything.” Ian said sarcastically. “Look. I’m giving you one last chance to pick a book or play for us to read that wasn’t written by Shakespere or inspired by one of his works.”
“Fine. I pick Contested Will by James S. Shapiro.”
Ian narrowed his eyes. “Is Will short for William? As in William Shakespeare?”
“It’s not about him. It’s about how someone else might’ve written his plays. It’s a loophole.”
Amy put her arm in front of Ian to keep him from strangling Jonah.
“Okay.” She said, “Consider your turn forfeited. Our next book is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins; the movie is coming out in a few months. We can see it together after our next meeting.”
“Brilliant.”
“Hmm.” Jonah said, considering. “I guess that’s chill. I’ve been meaning to read Hunger Games for a while now anyway. Miss Pluderbottom said it’s mad popular with her students.”
“Who?” Ian said.
“She’s kind of like my grandma.” Jonah smiled. “I met her after that whole fiasco at the Globe, towards the end of the clue hunt. Maybe I can get her to read Shakespeare with me. The Globe’s doing a hip-hop production of Othello in a few months, she’d love that.”
“As long as you don’t try to make me sit through it.” Ian said and Jonah gave him the middle finger.

Jonah Wizard - Jonah WILL be the next 2Pac. He clearly is not the shallow artist that he used to be and that everyone thinks he is. He genuinely cares about people and art. Cara Pierce - Demsoc that could transform into actual socialist. Dealing with her father - the epitome of corrupt American politics, capitalism, and imperialism - radicalized her. Loves Zohran Mamdani and was low key a Bernie bro. She definitely reads a lot of political history books and theory. Leans a little bit too much on the side of "theory bro" or "philosophy bro" just arguing semantics and playing devil's advocate on Reddit (hashtag women in men's fields) but eventually she will go outside and do something though, I'm sure of it, and that's when Ian is gonna get bullied into stopping his nonsense once and for all.
Sinead Starling - biased perhaps (hashtag Sineamy) but she is genuinely such a lesbian feminist to me. Her main priority is feminism, all her politics stem from what will lead to women's liberation.

i keep getting weird comments on all of my t39c fics, usually very generic to the point i know they haven't read it and it doesn't feel like a real person, but the first one in the image and another i got last year were more specific. i gave last year's commenter the benefit of the doubt and they sent me off-putting demands for a while and offered to make a fan art of my story, but after i stopped replying they erased every single interaction. another comment like this i got a while ago was deleted after. didn't reply to it for a week. the last person in the picture left a comment on two more fics and gave me a different discord account in them. anyone else having the same problem? is it possible to report for spam?
it's the end of the year and i 1. have been active in the fandom 2. posted one fanfic next year i want to 1. stay active 2. reread or at least plan my reread of cahill vs vesper 3. post one more one-shot and start a long fic i've been working on
