William Conor 1881–1968 Northern Irish artist William Conor studied at the Government School of Design in Belfast. He went on to work as a commercial artist and during the First World War he was commissioned by the British government to complete portraits of soldiers and munitions workers. Working primarily in watercolour and wax crayon, Conor’s predominant subjects were the working classes in Ulster. He exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy in London and the RHA in Dublin. He was elected a member of the RHA in 1946. His work is represented in major public collections including the National Gallery of Ireland; the Linen Hall Library, Belfast, and the Ulster Museum, Belfast. https://www.instagram.com/p/CkHFCrUDuVf/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

LIVE AND LET DIE (Adobe Illustrator) The best James Bond films tended to be based on the Ian Fleming novels, most of which were well written to begin with. Some compared Fleming’s style to that of Raymond Chandler. However, one ban also detect the influence of Somerset Maugham, Graham Greene and Eric Ambler. LALD was the 8th Bond film and the 2nd novel. I finally got to see the movie on the big screen this summer past. The film starred Roger Moore but I have used an image of Bond which I created when Sean Connery died. #jamesbond #liveandletdie #007 #graphicdesign https://www.instagram.com/p/CiuL-W2D9z8/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

WAVES THROUGH TIME (100 cm x 120 cm, Acrylic on canvas.) My painting depicts Professor Jocelyn Bell Burnell, originally from Co. Armagh, who discovered pulsars in 1967. In the background is a statue of Lord Kelvin who was born in Belfast, became Professor of Natural Philosophy at Glasgow University, and is famous for his work on thermodynamics and the first transatlantic telegraph cable. The visible bandwidth of the electro-magnetic spectrum, in a "beam" suggested by the perspective of Kelvin's plinth, symbolises the role of radio waves in the work of both scientists, uniting them across time: the robed, patriarchal Victorian and the brilliant young woman of the swinging 1960s. Also shown is the constellation of Vulpecula ("the little fox") in which Bell discovered her pulsar, a rotating neutron star emitting bursts of electromagnetic radiation over interstellar time and space. This painting reflects my interest in local history, science and nature. #science #astronomy #astrophysics #thermodynamics #glasgow #belfast #lurgan #pulsars #jocelynbellburnell #lordkelvin https://www.instagram.com/p/ChbxyaID4nP/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
