She took in a sharp breath as his hands cupped her face, but it was quickly let out in a sigh of relief as he affirmed that they were something. Not that Doe knew what something was. She closed her eyes for a moment, head tilting back against the wall. She lifted a hand to wrap around his wrist, pulling it off her face and lacing her fingers with his. “Of course. Quidditch is… your life. I wasn’t thinking about it.” She lifted her head back up to look at him. “Not that you need to be stressed - because I’m sure you’re going to crush Hufflepuff,” she gave him a tentative smile. “You don’t have to explain yourself.” Her eyes flicked back towards the ground. “I was afraid… you realized you didn’t like me. And I guess I’m just on edge because I don’t know what’s going on and I’m not used to feeling like this about… anyone. Worried and stuff,” she let out a laugh. “I usually don’t give a shit whether or not people like me. I feel like I’m going crazy.”

for a second he was terrified - as she tugged on his wrist, he couldn’t help but wonder if this was the part that she stormed off and left him in the dust - he wasn’t really someone who had been equipped with a life time of knowledge on upset woman - but as she laced their hands back together, he felt himself let out the breath that he had unknowingly been holding. “it is--” he admitted, a small laugh slipping as he agreed, “but it’s not the only thing that’s important to me - i don’t want it to be--” you’re important to me - i don’t want to disappoint you, those words seemed too soon for him to utter, but he was hoping that implying it would be enough. 

“that first game was brutal to watch --” the uneasiness slipping in, digging in to his gut like a vice that he couldn’t rid himself of, “amos is just as good - i can’t afford to lose” first game wasn’t the end of a season, but it set the bar - he wanted to set it high, he’d rather be constantly reaching than falling into a pit of not being enough. “i do --” he hadn’t wanted to interrupt her, but they needed to set things straight - if this was going to work, then maybe they did need to talk about it. “i do need to explain myself --” he corrected, shrugging as he watched her with the sort of shyness that he wasn’t accustomed too, “dorcas -- you’re allowed to expect things of me -- we kind of did this backwards, didn’t we?” he sighed, soft chuckle slipping from his lips as he thought about how they dove right in, without any rules but rules are what usually kept people sane and on par with a routine. “i like you --” saying that out loud felt right, he pressed a quick kiss against her forehead as he continued, “-- and i’m not going anywhere so, what would you say if i said lets do this? be steady --” teeth sinking into his lip as he let go of her and gave her the space to make a decision. she had told him right from the start that she wasn’t much of a relationship person - that things hadn’t worked out with sirius for a reason and yet here he was putting it right on her step, but what else could he do? neither of them were happy with the ambiguity - no he wanted more and he hadn’t realized till he had seen her a mess over him. “if you need time to think about it - i understand, i can be the one waiting for you this time --”

She looked down toward the floor rather than look up at him, feeling her cheeks flush slightly. This was not her. She did not do this, and she was embarrassed that she cared so much that she hadn’t seen him in so long. She kept her eyes trained on the ground as he asked the question, bringing her arms up to cross over her chest. “I just - I haven’t seen you in a while and… it’s not like we don’t live in the same castle and eat in the same room. I just… it’s stupid. I thought maybe there would be some warning when you decided… or realized… I don’t know this is stupid. You don’t have to see me. I just thought we were - I don’t know, something.”

maybe this was why he had been avoiding her -- he wasn’t ready for a reminder that he needed to be better. looking at her - that was what came roaring to him and merlin, was he disgusted by himself. she couldn’t even look at him and to think that he had caused this -- it wasn’t a great feeling. he had people who relied on him - he had a team that did that, he was no stranger to the feeling of being needed - but this was different. this wasn’t quidditch - he was doing what he swore he wouldn’t do - give her a reason to doubt him. 

“dorcas--” he murmured, shaking his head as he set his bag aside and cupped her face carefully, “it’s not stupid --” he muttered. she had thought they were something -- “we are --” words out of his lips before he could really think about it. he didn’t know what they were - he still didn’t think he was boyfriend material, he was barely a good something, but having her there doubting that was also not something that sat right with him. “i’m sorry -- i’ve been distant” he admitted quietly, “it has nothing to do with you. love, you did nothing wrong -- i’ve just been stressed, first game of the season - i need to play well, or i’m not going to get recruited, if i’m not in class -- i’m on the pitch and i should have told you, i just -- i don’t know how to do this. i don’t want to make excuses - especially not with you, but what i can say is you’re my only something outside of the pitch --” he hadn’t grown tired of her - he had kept away because she had a tendency to consume him, “i can’t focus when i’m around you --” he admitted, teasing smile at his lips, “really - you’ve gotten under my skin, meadowes --”

amos  had  a  pretty  good  relationship  with  each  of  the  quidditch  captains,  but  there  was  always  a  friendly  rivalry  between  them.  “ahh,  if  it  isn’t  enemy  number  one,”  he  teased,  arms  folding  over  his  chest  as  he  tried  to  give  his  best  intimidating  face,  ( even  though  all  he  wanted  to  do  was  grin  at  his  mate  and  pull  him  in  for  a  hug. )  he  was  really  hoping  ‘puff’s  first  match  this  year  would  be  against  gryffindor  or  slytherin.  no  such  luck.  “sorry  you  have  to  start  the  season  with  a  loss,  but  i’m  sure  you’ll  pull  through  with  a  solid  second  place  this  year.” @iainwocd​

“is that what we are now?” the boy mused, smile just as wide as he mimicked the boy and crossed his arms over his chest, “what happened to the whole - we can’t let quidditch ruin our friendship --” he teased, with amos he never really worried much - whatever happened on the pitch, stayed on the pitch. 

“remind me to toast you for your efforts at our victory party --”  he knew that he had a hard game ahead and it was worse considering it was amos, nearly hoping that it had been james or emma - this was inevitable.

Dorcas had hardly seen Iain in days and she was decidedly annoyed at how much this fact was bothering her. What bothered her even more was the distinct feeling she had that he was avoiding her. The temptation was certainly there to brush it off. To think - well it’s happened just as you predicted and he finally figured out that you’re not the person he thought you were. But some part of her was rejecting the idea of just letting it go. Whether it was the need to know what it was that made him quit her, or the fact that she’d hardly stopped thinking about him recently - quite unlike her and an unfamiliar feeling. Whatever it was, it meant that her eyes were practically combing the halls for him as she made her way to the great hall for lunch. Finally, they landed on him and she practically made a beeline, unceremoniously grabbing his arm and practically dragging him to an alcove along the wall. Once she’d stopped, she turned toward him, arms crossed and eyebrows slightly furrowed. “Hi,” she said before stopping to chew on the inside of her cheek. This was stupid. She wasn’t seriously mad at a bloke for not seeking her out at meals or walking her to class at least once. And yet, there was something nagging at her as she slumped slightly backwards against the wall. “Have I done something?”

Eat, Quidditch, Sleep. that was on REPEAT at this moment, barely squeezing in time for studying - Iain was at his wits end, often the captain less likely to be overcome with anxiety, the first game of the season was really digging in. it was getting the best of him and especially after the most recent game - he couldn’t go down like that. he had a quidditch career on the line - he needed to be better. what he didn’t think was that being better would involve seeing less of dorcas. he wasn’t actively avoiding her or at least that’s what he told himself, she wouldn’t even notice - she didn’t want to be serious, right? that was what their first conversation had been all about and yet he couldn’t help the guilt that tugged at his gut. he just hadn’t been around as much as he would like and maybe it was because he had a tendency to get all fuzzy around her - his brain nearly mush as she drew him in - he was happy. unburdened and happy - he didn’t know what to do with that. 

he had slipped into the great hall quickly - merely grabbing a snack and then off he was to the pitch, he nearly tumbled as he felt a sharp tug. eyes widening as he found himself in the small alcove with none other than dorcas meadowes peering up at him -- just about to say a quick hello before the apologies would simply slip out of his lips when her words silenced him, “WHAT?” he questioned startled as his brows furrowed, hands resting on the stone above her head as he peered down at her, gaze softening. “no--” he spluttered, shaking his head quickly-- he was expecting an earful - maybe a lecture, but the doubt that tugged at her face - the disappointment there hurt his heart, “why would you think that?” maybe it was because he had been avoiding her like the plague, but maybe he needed to hear it. he was a prick and the girl he adored was just about to prove it.

“JAMES --” he called out, approaching him with ease as his smile widened, “bloody good game, really mate - congratulations. you guys really killed it --” good sportsmanship - as his grandfather would put it, it was the key to keeping the game that you love fun. it was about taking a second to appreciate someone’s else’s talent and as cocky as the boy could get, james potter could play the game well and iain could tell he loved it just as much. 

“--especially charlotte” shaking his head in wonder, “you’ve got some pretty great chasers, your offence really beat down vanity” he remarked, “it was a great game to kick off the season --”

HE WAS UP NEXT. he couldn’t help but sympathize with slytherin - emma was a decent captain and that game had been far brutal to watch let alone experience. it was still just the first of many and as much as he wanted to join in on partying - he couldn’t help but step away -- maybe he needed some air, or maybe he needed a fly. as much as he loved the game and as experienced as he was - it still didn’t matter. they could practice and practice till it was embedded in their bones and yet if they choked under pressure, there went his chance, his dream --- 

he hadn’t heard them - it took a second for him to realize that someone was calling out for him, stopping he turned around, “sorry, couldn’t hear you over my downward spiral --” he joked, smile at his lips despite how TRUE the words were.

“DAMN. I really thought I had a good one there - you coulda pretended I stumped you.” She reveled in the look he gave her when he finally turned around, smile broadening substantially. “Fantasize, eh? The night gets better and better.” Her lips are on hers and gone too soon. She quickly reached up to put a hand on his neck and pull him back to him, kissing him again. She was a little too aware that ANYONE could see them, but in the moment she didn’t really care. Besides, it was Doe and she was at a party, so chances were high no one else would pay much mind either. “It’s my birthday and you’re wearing leather, so I think I get a little more than a peck.” 

“i could have --” he trailed off, pouting rather thoughtfully, “robin hood would have lied - bloody hell” he grumbled, he couldn’t even get his costume right - the honesty really would be the end of him at this rate. but the smile at her lips - the way she tugged him back toward her, nearly stumbling right into her as he steadied himself with her waist, “i like that rule” he hummed, smile widening against her lips as he swept in for one last peck before he tugged away. 

“do you feel WISER?” he teased, his jokes were lame but if it got a laugh out of her, he wouldn’t care.

“I guess so. The costumes are quite good though.” Seo-Yun replied, taking a sip from her drink. “And after all, isn’t Halloween supposed to be morbid?”

“i guess it depends on what you expect to see? i can see why people would consider it a morbid day - i like to think of it as a day to try something different - it’s the one day you don’t have to be yourself” the boy shrugged with ease, that’s why it was always so wonderful to see what people came up with - it was an eye into their mind.

Granted as ridiculous as his costume might appear to others, for Jackson is felt incredibly liberating. For once he wasn’t the object of staring eyes because of his past. For one night and one night only, he could just sit in a corner and no one knew who he was, he’d achieved his desired wallflower status and he had never felt so much relief. Well anonymous apart from his room mates and some other Ravenclaw’s who’s already played detective. But still, it was better than normal.

Jackson had been sat quite happily, book in lap with some punch by his side - with his party curly straw of course -. Hat and sunglasses at the ready just in case they put any good muggle music on he could dance to. Of course his expression was hidden by his ‘invisibly cloak’ for the evening, a plain white bed sheet; it didn’t stop a smirk from pulling onto his features as he caught sight of his room mate. “Nice tights Peter Pan-” Jackson chirped sarcastically, as he looked up from his book at Iain. “What’s matter- ye lost all yer merry men?” @iainwocd​

iain had been in fits when he saw jackson get ready - it was quite BRILLIANT, really, such a simple and yet original costume - it was sarcastic in its own way, the epitome of jackson sinclair, so he wasn’t surprised when the boy decided to pick on his very questionable pants -- 

“OI -- they’re not tights and we both KNOW it, they’re just a bit tighter than the common trousers, it’s supposed to give me flexibility --” he was arguing a losing battle here, “--besides, you’re quite the RUDE ghost, mate - aren’t you supposed to greet me with a BOO?” the boy teased, “my merry men decided to come as a man with a blanket over his head, i’m on my own tonight --”

Doe had been keeping an eye out for Iain since pretty much the moment that she walked into the party. It was embarrassing, really, how many conversations she’d been half involved in because her eye was wandering. But it was her birthday kind of and she looked good and infuriatingly she missed the boy when he wasn’t around. Finally she spotted him out of the corner of her eyes and nearly choked on her drink. He was FOR SURE created just to torture her. She rather impolitely excused herself from the conversation and made her way over to tap him on the shoulder. “Iain Wood,” she said, waiting for him to turn around - smile far too big on her face. “The more you take the more you leave behind. What am I?”

he had just let out a sigh of FRUSTRATION - was so easily ready to shoo off whoever it was tapping on his shoulder now when he heard that VOICE. he’d recognize that voice anywhere at this point and he would be damned if he said that if didn’t make his heart beat faster. a smile stretching his lips as he tilted his head to the side pondering for a second - “footsteps” his smile only widening as he turned around to be REWARDED with something else entirely - was it possible to choke on air? because iain was nearly there at the sight of her, “never thought i’d fantasize about rowena, but fuckin’ hell - you look STUNNING--” the boy blurted out, he was so sure he sounded like every other eager fourth year and yet he couldn’t help himself, and maybe that’s what led him to leaning down and pecking her lips gently - that and he missed the feel of them against his lips, “happy birthday” he mumbled against them as he tugged back, cheeky smile at his lips, “when they said you get older, didn’t think we were talking centuries --”

“OH ROWENA -- that’s real, isn’t it?” eyes widening at the sight of the snake, “fuckin’ hell mate - don’t you dare come in for a hug - you look brilliant, by the way - really somehow made salazar more APPEALING, but i’m a NO on the snake --” the boy rambled.

iain was trying to not look too EAGER -- his gaze scanning the crowds for a specific brunette -- or well, maybe she wasn’t a brunette tonight. they hadn’t really discussed costumes, he wasn’t even sure WHO he was going to be looking for, but merlin with a drink in his hand, he was starting to miss dorcas meadowes. completely and utterly foreign feeling -- iain wood wasn’t used to missing someone - but he had spent the week focused on perfecting his drills on the pitch, actually catching up on homework - carving out time that involve her. maybe it was a reminder that he couldn’t designate all his time to one person, even if it was new and exciting -

fidgeting with the brown leather that was draped on his skin, the boy took down his hood -- maybe if he couldn’t spot her, she would find him.

“You’re definitely a sick bastard. I mean, who leaves a girl wanting like that. I don’t know if you’ve noticed but I’m HOT, Iain Wood. And I’m rather used to getting what I want.” The sigh that came from his lips when she kissed him was unfair and Doe couldn’t help but groan at the sound of it. At his words, she pulled her lips away from his, sitting up and looking down at him. “I quite disagree, Mr. Wood. I think that it’s the perfect punishment. Though if it makes you feel better it’s torture for me as well.”

“not really my style, love” he chuckled, oh the rose coloured glasses were both the trend of the year and apparently the trend his heart - maybe she was right, he was soft when it came to her, but he wholeheartedly believed that what he saw was what she was  -- “if it makes you feel better, i’m absolutely miserable doing it --” he offered, a chuckle slipping from his lips. 

“you’re HOT?” the boy repeated, he couldn’t hide the teasing tone or the lack of grace that came with his teeth sinking into his bottom lip to contain his own laughter - her outright statement was precious and maybe he should give in, but dragging this out seemed way more FUN -- “huh --” the boy pondered, gaze inspecting her carefully, “i mean - i guess i can see it? i mean, do you get a lot?” he was pretty sure he was going to either end up with a few bruises from those tiny fists or be suffocated by kisses - pout tugging at his lips as pulled away and sat up, “i don’t mind a bit of torture --” he admitted softly, moving to take a hold of her hands as he entwined them with his, “are you having fun up there?” maybe it was that he already missed her lips against his or maybe he needed to check in on her - he didn’t ask her up here for a snogfest - the last thing he ever wanted to do was make her uncomfortable.

Doe narrowed her eyes as he commented on them, making sure to give him her best glare. “No one on the history of the planet has said I have kind eyes. And I’ve heard just about everything from lads who want to get in my pants. What kind of game are you playing here, Wood?”

She let out a small gasp that turned into another fit of laugher as he pulled her on top of him. “Iain Wood. You snog the breath out of a girl, make her sit through a whole party with nothing, lure her into your room, pull her on top of you, and expect her NOT to try to fuck you? You’re a sick bastard, aren’t you?” Her gaze softened at his words, her fingers lacing in his hair, a smile forming on her lips without her permission at the feel of it. She dropped down ever so slightly so that her lips were just hovering over his, drinking in his gaze for a moment. And then her eyes shut and she was finally kissing him again - thank Godric. But despite her words only moments before about wanting to fuck him, the kiss was slow and it was the only way that she could admit to him that he was making her soft as well. 

he couldn’t help but scrunch his face up in a poor attempt to mimic hers, “well, they were probably too busy being terrified that you might just hex them for it - i think we both know i’m not trying to get in your pants - it’s a problem that you oh so love to pout about” he chuckled, thumb trailing along her lower lip.  

“huh --” lips parted as her little rant really put it in perspective, “when you put it that way  --maybe i am a sick bastard” he admitted, brows furrowing, a quick “sorry” leaving his lips as a pout tugging at them, her lips were just mere inches away, hand moving up to cup her face -- gaze locked on hers and he couldn’t stop the way something fluttered in him - it was just the anticipation - or that was what he was willing to argue and yet one look at her - one proper look and he knew that wasn’t what it was. he didn’t hide the soft quiet sigh that left his lips as she finally gave him what his lips was aching for from the second they had headed to the party, his own moving against hers carefully -- so much less rushed than their little escapade outside and yet this was what had him so pliable in her grasp, “you know, the punishment for torture shouldn’t be torture --” he teased against her lips.
