Opened in 1898, The Berghoff stopped selling alcohol during the Prohibition, but instead expanded as a restaurant. Before that, from Nov-Dec 1903 the Iroquois Theater stood here where the largest theater fire in U.S. history occurred. The building reopened under a new name and was demolished in 1925 for the construction of the Oriental Theater.
