transferring from the  chinese institute of magic  to  hogwarts  was something aidan never thought he’d adjust well to.  a good part of his childhood friends were in china.  and because his dad got a great job offer,  who was he to turn that down  ?  and with his mom already a liaison to the ministry,  it seemed like a perfect fit.  praise merlin for small mercies.  fast forward two years later, he’s happily adjusted to life in britain.  he’d been living at home for the most part up until he finished mediwizard training.  from there,  it was a matter of working there for a couple months before settling to get a place of his own.  luckily that all worked out.

however for today,  st. mungo’s was busier than ever.  there’d been a spike of broom related injuries.  some more  dastardly  than others.  safe to say that when his shift was over,  aidan was making his way over to a pub.  what he didn’t count on was seeing nadia.  nonetheless,  he made his way over to the former slytherin and took the vacant seat next to her.  “  are you sure  ?  ”  he asks.  “  if so,  next round’s on me.  i insist.  ”

nadia had pretty much all the time in the world, all things considered-- and the former slytherin figured where could she go wrong with some firewhisky? merlin himself! thought she could use it all things considered. there had been a thought of popping by ( quite literally with apparition and everything, blimey it never got old. ) picking up some of the things written with her quill and ink on parchment-- earlier in the day, but it had ultimately been not what she deemed as fun. not nearly as much as having fun.

“for sure.” the brunette replies with a nod of her head. not one to offer! if she hadn’t meant it. and she did wholeheartedly. “consider it a done deal. i can’t say no to an offer such as that.” especially after how sick of the waiting game she was. but that was an entirely different situation! one she may have been having fun to forget-- but would she really say that? probably not. “consider it my way of saying hello, and how better with a drink? it’s a drinking kind of a day.”

“ porfa. ” mafe mumbled from her seat next to nadia, her tone coming out muffled— and awfully low for someone as loud as the very quirky and very witchy maria fernanda velasco souza, due to pearly whites chewing down the straw of her drink. the leaky cauldron wasn’t as busy as it has been other days, the faded chit chats from wix not bothering mafe’s concentrating time as she stared down to an issue of the daily prophet, teeth never failing on biting anything that was close to her mouth. the first item she started to bite was a muggle, but not so muggle pencil, a silly souvenir she stole from her sister’s hands when venturing through the wizarding costa of hermosillo, then it was her middle finger nail, followed by her biting down the rest of her finger nails, and now it was the plastic of the straw.  it has been months since the day her papá told mafe to look for a job. the brunette found multiple options, starting from bar maid to dishwasher at the pub the former slytherins were at. when she announced them to her father in a not-so-proud way, panchito velasco simply scoffed and told her to help him with the magical creatures he kept in their place instead. that’s all she has been doing for said months, helping her father and mother in case the pregnant witch needed something. but maria fernanda was bored already. and she wanted galleons of her own since her father never gave her a reward when she woke up every full moon with an open eye and a sleepy bum to feed the mooncalves ! lately she has been eyeing job offers, and today was no exception as she continued looking down at the wizarding newspaper. nadia’s arrival wasn’t even enough for mafe to look away from the job adverts at first… until it was enough. “ ugh, merlin’s fucking head, ” the doe eyed witch groaned, stretching her arms by planting her hands on top of the counter’s surface. “ nadia, preciosa, we need to get drunk. ” they were drinking buddies, after all. maybe drinking a bit would help her. maria fernanda waved her wand and put everything in her bag, quickly turning to her fellow witch with a grin. “ and we also need to gossip. it’s been so long since the last time we have seen each other. we deserve it. ” 「 ✨  mafe has mentioned a canon object. x12 」   「 ✨  mafe has mentioned a magical subject. 」 「 ✨  mafe used a wizarding idiom. x4 」 「 ✨  mafe has cast a spell. 」

nadia had noticed the daily prophet-- but just didn’t decide to comment on it. something the brunette very seldom read. if anything she probably read witch weekly more. it just didn’t interest her, blimey one could say it was even boring. if the witch wanted to know something she’d find it out for herself, she somehow almost always did. but that was just because.. merlin were people trusting sometimes. perhaps too much! is what she often thought. there’s a reach of her wand; the dark colored cloak moving from it’s spot around her shoulders, and onto the back of the chair. doing the same exact same thing with her bag. time is galleons after all, and it saved time doing it the way a muggle would.

“you alright over there?” the dark haired brunette inquires with a raise of her eyebrows, although. not judging per se-- it had been a genuine question. perhaps, it was just one of those days. “brilliant! it’s almost like you read my mind. but than again when am i not up for getting drunk or having a few drinks? the answer is never.” who could blame her? it was fun. you know, actually having fun. “you know i’m up for gossiping too. i’m sure one of us has to have some pretty interesting gossip to share. for merlin’s sake, i couldn’t think of two people who deserve this more than us!”

as much fun as unemployment has been, still is. nadia knew it was probably time to be a little more frugal with her galleons-- when she knew there would be a point; of her blowing through everything she had and the main purchase of what she had been her flat. which admittedly had cost her the most amount of everything she had. and she would never ask either parent to help, not that to be fair she ever seen them long enough to ask anything. her mum was always busy working for the ministry it seemed, and her dad? oh merlin that was an entirely different discussion and how absent he could be on her. after all, they only seemed to talk to her when it benefited them in some way, as unfortunate as it was-- after eighteen years of her life, she was used to it. used to them being absent on her. nowhere to be find even when she wanted them to be there.

the worst of it? the brunette hadn’t even decided on if she wanted to play professionally. a big part of her did, because it was what she knew and what she was good at. she was a wicked beater, and a naturally skilled one. teams had expressed interest in her, and she had gone to visit the few quidditch teams she had interest in herself. but it hadn’t panned out as of so far, so she was back to square one. it was all but a waiting game, more or less and merlin was it a slow one.

there’s a huff at the thought. a clear sign that it was even a frustrating one to think about. even if it was directed at no one in particular. “another, thanks.” came her words, as she on that note finishes what very little was left in her glass. “did you want another as well? if so, it’s on me.” she offers towards her company, in one of her why not moods. dare one say ( who knew her, that was ) say it was actually friendly and not her usual faux friendly.

delaney bites down the sweetness of her pastry, but doing that was a mistake ! she coughed at just the idea of a cow. a cow… if someone ever walked around as a cow the witch was going to cry ! “ oh no. ” the blonde giggles, clasping her hand over her mouth while thanking the gods that she didn’t end up choking or something ! “ i love wiztober at its enterity. the food… the people… the costumes— ah, do i love dressin’ up. ” delaney sighs. she makes a little twirl to make her dress to fan a bit around her. “ also, i’m so glad it actually ended up happening. the attack was so… you know. ”

nadia laughs, before she gave delaney that of an apologetic look. even if she really didn’t want to see anyone walk around like that-- talk about absurd. “sorry, don’t die on me, now! and leave me all to my lonesome. that would be ridiculous honestly.. i don’t understand WANTING to look like animals. or having that as someone’s costume.” not something she’d do, nor did she really think it looked good. make her laugh on the other-hand? definitely. “it’s not bad, i don’t really care for much about it. but the food is always good and people watching.” comes her response with a shrug of her shoulders, knowing it was a very.. her answer. “me too, would have been a shame to miss out on all of this. i would have been a little disappointed, because it’s my entertainment and amusement for the day. plus, it’s nice catching up with you as well.”

irene glanced over at the haunted house again.  it’s as if her enhanced hearing was  anticipating  the every move made in the house.      “      it just sucks.  i do wish people would be more  understanding.  we all have our reasons.      ”      she needn’t let people know her sense of humor  differed.      “      that is very true.  and i do appreciate it.  i think i’ll go in eventually,  but i’ll let you know.  going in alone just seems really sad.      ”

“maybe when the world freezes over.” nadia retorts, but irene had a point-- one she for one agreed with. she wished it worked that way, but alas it was life. life tended to be.. something. “even if it’s about how some things are actually funny to others, maybe not to them. but to others. it’s not fun to have to censor one’s laughter just because someone could say something.” or at least that was how it worked in her case, when she normally had to not say what she was thinking. “it’s not a problem, it’s always more fun that way anyway. so i wouldn’t mind. i think i may give it a go, especially with all the reactions i’ve been SEEING. even if it’s just to see if i can not get scared. a little, yeah. it’d be rather sad. when i’m sure literally anyone could find someone to go with them.”

He recognised her, he realised. He wasn’t sure where from, or how exactly he knew who she was but her family name jumped to the front of his mind and he had to force himself not to take a step back. Yaxley. He knew he shouldn’t judge her for her family, not every person born to a Death Eater was destined to take the same path, but then he thought of Sirius… of how utterly convinced he had been of Sirius’ goodness, his ability to be kind and loyal and caring. And where had that gotten him? His friends were dead, Sirius, the only person he had truly ever loved, was imprisoned for killing them… for giving into his true nature. He set his jaw, trying to hide his sudden emotional turmoil. “I’m sorry.” He said again, an edge to his voice now. “Forgive me.”

“it’s alright.” comes nadia’s response with ease, while it had caught her off guard she had quickly recovered. but at remus’s smile faltering slightly, it had earned a confused look-- it was just one of those things where your face made the expression, regardless of whether she had wanted to or not. her eyebrows had even furrowed in the process. “no you’re fine. seriously, accidents happen.” she reassures a friendly smile written across her features, sure-- it may have been annoying when things like that happened. but the literal snake was in a good mood, not that anyone who didn’t know her; would know that. “consider it done! it’s my fault too, i wasn’t paying complete attention. i was checking my shopping list and well, you know probably not the best idea.”

delaney was in middle of taking yet another bite from her pumpkin shaped pastry when nadia nudged her arm, granting her best friend with a gentle “ hmm ? ” as she turned back to her. it was until she finally noticed a man with realistic donkey ears and a snout that the witch finally snorted and looked away as quickly as she could. she has seen many many wix wearing very odd costumes, some of them using their magic in their favor to make everything more realistic, but the donkey one was a funny one. she giggles as she listens to what nadia was saying. “ it’s amazing, isn’t it ? i lovetaking part of wiztober because i see so many things. ”

nadia had seen some pretty strange things already, but donkey ears and a snout? that was the best they could come up with? while it was hilarious, and rather ridiculous too. somehow she felt they could be more creative than that. where was the creativity? “it’s.. well, something.” the brunette has to admit a further laugh sounding from her lips. “what’s next? a cow?” it was said with a snort, and rhetorical of course. she certainly hoped nobody would do that. “wiztober is great for a good laugh. in particular the costumes. exactly, that’s why i enjoy it as well.”

thank merlin the feeling was mutual between the two of them.  it wasn’t  mean.  was it  ?  personally,  irene didn’t see it that way.  it was just  –––  a form of  amusement.      “      good to know.  at least i know i’m not alone.  i won’t be surprised by the amount of judgement if i said that to someone else.      ”      she took another glance at the haunted house and heard screams emitting.      “      who knows  ?  i may give it a try later.  but i don’t want to go alone.  it’s always fun to go with a group of friends.      ”

“oh no you’re definitely not alone there. unfortunately, people tend not to be very understanding.” nadia didn’t see the point in there being any judgement, over something like that-- or for it to be wrong to find amusement from it. that was like saying this holiday in particular wasn’t for being scared and for all things scary. “it’s ridiculous. i don’t see anything wrong with finding it funny. let people be judgmental.” there’s a wave of her hand, almost as if to say oh well. “well, if you’re in need of someone to go with you i’m definitely interested. a lot more fun than going alone.”

“i do try.” nadia gives a shrug of her shoulders, saying it in a way that it was hard to tell whether or not she was being serious-- that she was sure of. “it’s better than learning that the hard way, it’s best not to or get one’s hopes up.”

nadia gently nudges delaney showing her no doubt something that was amusing to her-- about the only thing she was doing was getting was laughs and just sheer amusement. if anything it only convinced her further, that she was smart in wanting to come. “do you see that?” it earning further laughter from the brunette, as she turns her head in the opposite direction. and before anyone can see, trying to be as conspicuous as possible. "if this isn’t another reason for me to be happy to be here, i just don’t know what is.”

irene nods.  it was always fun to watch.  there was no doubt the half-vampire was amused.  on more than one occasion,  she witnessed even the burliest of wizards enter the haunted house and come out with tears  streaming  down their faces.      “      good to know that we’re on the same wavelength.      ”

nadia was one of those people who got the most amusement and dare one say joy, from the terrified reactions. she knew it was probably terrible of her, but she was alright with that. “oh no, we’re definitely on the same page.” chances were if she’d gone into the haunted house, she’d probably end up laughing and honestly? it wasn’t as fun for her-- if she had done it herself. “i feel like it’s hard NOT to be amused, but i’m perfectly alright with being amused. entertained even.”

“eh, it’d be nice if worked out that way. but i wouldn’t hold my breath.” nadia wouldn’t be against it, but she also believed things were never as easy as that. “it’d be nice if it worked out that way, i certainly wouldn’t complain.”

“      reckon you’ll be taking your chances at the haunted house      ?      ”      irene winced at some of the screams coming from the house.      she didn’t need her enhanced abilities to hear that.      “      i’m just more curious to see if the toughest of wix can withstand crying.      is it      mean      to say that i kind of hope to see some of them cry      ?      ”

“i mean, maybe. maybe not. i’d much rather watch the reactions myself.” nadia admits, saying that somewhat lower-- so that nobody would hear her saying that, the brunette would rather nobody hear her saying how amused she was. and is by it. “it’s only mean if you get caught. the reactions from people coming out of the haunted house are my favorite thing. it’s very possible, that’d be something. i reckon i’d pay some galleons to see that.”
