 {✂}—  ‘those candy apples you mentioned earlier - i’ll let you treat me to one of those.’ a smile quickly coated her lips as she stuck her toothpick into one of the little balls and plopped it into her mouth - breathing out as the heat of it of the pouring steam that came from the food. noelle could have waited a minute more or blew along it - but the impatient little brunette could not wait, it seemed as she whined out - holding her hands out before her mouth, hiding the reaction of her mouth burning.

    ‘ - mm!’

As soon as the sweet smell of takoyaki inundated his nostril, his eyes were only focused on the plate full of those delicious treats and as such, he followed with his gaze every tiny movement it made. He could not wait to taste them and if there were a total of six pieces of takoyaki, that meant three belonged to him. It would not be enough to satisfy his hunger but he did not seem to mind.

Once he saw the brunette grab one, he rapidly and impatiently grabbed three pieces and placed them in his mouth. The inside of his mouth was soon enveloped in steam when he gave the first bite. He quickly opened his mouth and softly whimpered over the heat. Fortunately, part of that hot vapor left his mouth making it bearable to continue on eating the takoyakis.

“Hot! Tasty! Hot! Hot! Tasty!”

He exclaimed with his mouth full and his cheeks puffed.

‘ - .. if, if you can’t see anything -’ now this could have been the dumbest idea. - but it was worth a shot. ‘ how about we lure it out ??’ and how you might ask ? noelle didn’t know the troubles of what it was like to face a demon - she didn’t know what powers it intel - how frightened she might be, but - if they needed to get to the bottom of this - she was more willing to give it a shot of being the bait.

‘ -let me call it out ?’

‘- it might appear faster if it just sees a defenseless human - compared to you. - just , a thought.’ she spoke up as she peeked up at him from under his cloak. it was a stare out of curiosity - but she wanted to see his reaction towards her idea - if it was good or bad, she knew she was in the safest and capable hands that there was - but this was to help those villagers in need. they needed to be rescued along with anyone hiding in fear in this shrubbery.. - if they were still alive.

Kyojuro’s smile did not disappear but he furrowed his brow upon hearing about her plan. It was actually good but he could not bear the idea of leaving her unprotected and in danger. What type of demon slayer would he be if he did that?

“I cannot let you do that! I cannot risk any lives! But! Your plan has given me another idea to lure the demon out! So thank you for that!”

He shouted with his usual chirpy tone and glanced down at Noelle only to discover that she was looking at him too. He then proudly puffed up his chest and gave her a confident stare. His eyes were burning with passion.

“For me to carry out this plan, I will need a piece of cloth to cover my eyes! Is that okay with you?”

He asked, as he would prefer if that piece of cloth came from her attire than from his own uniform since he needed to be sure to be as well protected as possible.

A quizzical smile appeared on his face. Did he hear wrong? A sun god? Yes, he surely must have heard wrong for the only god of sun he knew was actually Amaterasu, a goddess.

“Ah, thank you! I do hope the gods listen and give me their protection in every one of my journeys.”

He commented even though he did not pray nor worshipped any god.

{✂}—  ‘ - tada!’ even though it took her a moment, the small brunette found her way back towards the other - with , the delicious smelling food that lingering in a sharing plate for the two.

‘ i got six - i hope that’s okay??’ her large honey hues were resting along with the warmth of the once dough balls, as she handed it to him. ‘ actually - i didn’t ask if you were okay with sharing - but the lady in the booth suggested that we do .’ as it flew by noelle that the woman behind the booth assumed the two were a couple -.

‘ - let’s sit there and share?’

“I don’t understand why she would say that…”

Kyojuro honestly commented. He actually thought the lady of the booth had been quiet rude for suggesting Noelle to share when she ordered the takoyaki. Nevertheless, the brunette did not seem to mind so he decided to shrug it off too. There were plenty of other booths to choose from anyway.

“Yea, let’s share!”

He cheerfully exclaimed. He was about to take out his wallet to ask how much it had cost her but he refrained from doing so in the last minute.

“Thank you for inviting me! I’ll invite you to the rest of the food stands!”

 {✂}—      she - could not help but feel her heart race. this - this wasn’t what she was expecting to feel , at least at this moment when he cupped her now warm cheek - just .. calm it down - noelle.  she thought before breathing out from her nose as she quickly nodded her head.

‘ - i do. i just , want to make sure you’re safe as well -’ the girl that was scooped up in his arms repeated as she wrapped her arms around his neck , and holding onto the board of his shoulders tightly - while tucked into his arms and the cloak , safely.

‘- r , right!’ she repeated, as she held onto him as tight as her arms would allow, closing her eyelids when she felt him just move - taking the two much faster to get to a point that would have taken her some time to get if she were to just walk there !! noelle’s heart thumped in her chest as a soft gasp left her lips when she leaned further into him, before burying her face into his uniform. this was nothing she was expecting - but , she for sure was not in any doubt that he could not handle himself  !

‘ - do you think the demon would show if it notices you ??’

“It usually depends on the demon. Sometimes they are cowards who flee upon the sight of any demon slayer. But! If they do run away and their ring leader gets to know it, a worse fate waits for them. So they normally do fight.”

He quickly looked around, trying to avoid staring at the lights for too long and trying to determine the place the demon hid.

“Either way, I believe this demon will actually fight. It has been feeding for decades… It has become more powerful and possibly more cocky after each feast. If it decides not to fight and we make it out of here without a scratch, the neighboring towns will stop fearing it and eventually stop sending in people.”

They were just mere suppositions. He could not be actually sure it would be that way. He scanned the area again, his eyes rapidly observed the trees around them. There had to be something. A clue, anything!

      {✂}—     his words honestly made her laugh out a little bit. ‘ - i think i’ll be okay with knowing i am not someone’s interest.’ she said with a slight nod - as the two walked together towards the nearest food stands. the smells hit her nose, and it smelt delicious - that was for sure - until she turned her sights upon the drooling one beside her.

‘ would you like one?’ she asked - giggling somewhat before taking a napkin from her bag and leaning up to hold it before his mouth. ‘ give me a second - i’ll grab you some.’ she turned - so that her smaller form slid into the crowd of others - and browsing along the food that was displayed - she didn’t realize how hungry she was. ‘ - oh - it all smells so good !!’

Kyojuro genuinely laughed out loud when Noelle noticed his eagerness for food. Maybe he laughed too loud since the crowd that had formed in the takoyaki stand suddenly turned their heads upon hearing his laughter. Nevertheless the blond did not seem to care about the weird stares he received.

“Is it that obvious?”

He asked as he gladly took the handkerchief from her hand. He wanted to hand her money to buy enough for the two of them but it seemed that before he could take his wallet out she had disappeared into the crowd. He then decided to patiently wait for her to come back and later hand her the money.

When he saw it on Noelle, he suddenly froze up for a few seconds. His mind went blank and his legs did not respond to any orders. He felt as if his heart had stopped for a moment and someone had tightly squeezed his throat. He gulped with difficulty before he regained full control of his body. With all his might, he ran up towards her.

“Who—?”

He suddenly changed the question.

“Are you okay?”

His usual cheerful smile had disappeared and had been replaced by a worrisome expression.

{✂}—   ‘ it should be okay , i haven’t had the luxury of taking a break so - that’s what i’ll do. plus ! business isn’t really picking up. they chose the wrong person to take over the kissing booth. you - and only one other visited.’  

‘ i am not a good catch for the booth -’ she told him with a soft shrug before draping her personal bag along her shoulders. ‘ - would you mind showing me around??’

“That’s a shame! I’ll be honest! You’re a good kisser so it’s their loss!”

He commented cheerfully.

“Keep your spirits high and don’t let the flames of your heart extinguish! I bet people will eventually see your true potential!”

After his little pep talk, he guided her to the nearest food stand: a takoyaki booth. His mouth soon began to water.

{✂}—  ‘ y - you want to carry me ??’ but right now was probably not the time to be shy. she had to gulp down the feelings and do what was told in this situation - which, made her heart uneasy at first. but nothing in a bad way .. she just , never had a situation where she needed to be carried in such a way. taking his cloak, she slowly pulled it over the top of her head - and instantly was hit with the smell of him. ‘ - a , are you sure you .. -you would want to carry me this way ? wouldn’t it be better - piggyback?’ she told him as she took a step closer and rested her hands along his shoulders while she shyly looked down at him.

‘ i , i don’t want to get in the way - or anything..’

He could not really understand why the brunette seemed so nervous about him carrying her that way. The only thing that came up to his mind was that she might be scared of being attacked by the demon and she was having second thoughts about tagging along. Therefore, he decided to explain the reasons he thought it was more appropriate to carry her bridal style.

“I did think about carrying you piggyback but this way is better! I’m not used to carrying people around so if the demon attacks me from behind I might have a hard time defending you in time. I also think this is way is more comfortable!”

He exclaimed. His eccentric and cheerful smile turned into a sweet and warm one. He softly placed his left rough hand over her right cheek.

“It’s okay, Noelle. I will protect you. Trust me.”

He then proceeded to pick her up and grabbed her tightly against him. His heart thumped hard yet calm in his chest. He needed to find the demon before his wariness consumed him.

“Hold on tight!”

He said before he concentrated his breath and rapidly launched towards the designated place.

‘ i - i am sure my booth could be put to a pause for the moment. let me come with you, Kyojuro!’ she had asked, smiling ever so brightly at the thought of spending the little time with the other. but she quickly walked over to place the closed sign along her booth and grabbed a few of her belongings - then headed for his side. ‘ lets go!’

Kyojuro raised his eyebrows and gave her a quizzical smile.

“Is it really okay for you to leave your post unattended? I wouldn’t want you to get in trouble! Duties before munchies!”

When it came to tasks and responsibilities, he could sometimes be such a party pooper.

Well it’s about time. While there wasn’t much difference between the two, bending in such a way was beginning to ache a bit.

He cheerfully nodded.

“I will make sure not to disturb you!”

He then proceeded to sit down on the spot and unwrap his bento. He quickly thanked the gods for his meal and began to noisily chomp the food with his chopsticks.

“Tasty! Tasty! Tasty!”

He happily exclaimed with his mouth full.

{✂}— his reaction towards the kiss made her hide her laugh behind the palm of her left hand.   ‘ - i am glad that it was ? otherwise - i don’t think a hard kiss would feel nice.’ she informed before hiding her hand behind her back and leaned somewhat closer in. ‘ the booth will be open all day - just swing by if you’re in need of another !’

When he heard the booth would be open for the rest of the day, his smile became wider.

“Great! I was afraid you would leave early!”

He exclaimed cheerfully and added,

“I saw some food stands around this place. Do you want me to bring over anything special like yakisoba, takoyaki or candy apples?”

{✂}—    ‘ - i don’t think that’s safe.’ she admitted, as she took a moment to glance over towards direction where the lights are. they could go around - but the likely hood of not running into more lights was slim - and just standing there as open targets .. well, that did none of them good.

noelle closed her eyes while crossing one arm beneath her bust and with her right - poking at her temple, in a thinking position. think noelle, think.  ‘ we need to get around somehow.’ as obvious that was, she looked around -before reaching for his hand again. ‘ there.’ she pointed with her free hand. ‘ - it’s a little closer towards the lights. but if we link hands - we can keep track of each other if we get distracted.’ she told him - though she wasn’t even sure if that idea would really work. but it was something than just sitting around and just keep getting caught up in the sights of those lights.

she slowly slipped her fingers passed through the parts of his calloused digits - and allowed her small ones clasp around his knuckles - intertwining their hands together - before she moved a bit for him to follow. ‘ - hopefully - we find the culprit. otherwise - we might be really stuck in here.’

Kyojuro nodded in agreement. It was too risky for them to simply attack straight on or walk around in circles. They had to focus on different points of the forest and try to search for the demon who was controlling the lights. It was also worth noting that they did not have that much information about the lights and its power either.

The blond followed with his gaze the direction she was pointing to. He quickly tried to calculate how much time it would take them to cross to that side. If he followed her lead, it would probably take them one minute whilst if he went alone it would take him two seconds.

He hummed in thought. There might be a way for them to make it there in two seconds or possibly three.

“Wait.”

He softly whispered when she wrapped her hand around his hand. He pulled his hand away and took off his cloak, revealing his black uniform and blade. He then proceeded to hand her his cloak.

“I know a better way to get to that point faster. Let me carry you!”

He knelt down and prepared his arms to carry her bridal style.

“Cover yourself with my cloak. It will protect you from any damages done by minor demons and from that light!!”

              {✂}—      ‘ kyojuro !’ the friend of the demonslayer giggled a bit when she saw him appear before her little kissing booth. ‘ - did you come for a kiss?’ a tilt of the head when she had asked, her smile just grew as she stood up and moved around the little makeshift booth and towards the other . ‘ close your eyes -please!’ 

with it being said. she reached up - taking the blond’s cheeks within her hands, and tilting him a little sideways so that she could press her lips right along his left cheek, kissing at his skin gently.  ‘ -tada!’

“I was just passing by and I saw you and this booth!! And since I am already here, why not give it a go?”

He asked with his usual radiant smile. He did as she asked and closed his eyes. Even though he had his eyes completely shut, he could feel where she would land the kiss. When her lips kissed his left cheek, he opened his eyes.

“Soft! Soft! Soft!”

He exclaimed referring to the delicate touch of her lips against his cheek.
