and up the bread goes and lands perfectly in the crate. and up goes the other batch, and then the next. Truly, it was so mesmerizing that Maroon simply couldn't stop watching as the baker took out row after row of delicious looking bread and tossing them fluidly into place. "Truly an art..." he whispered softly to himself.
It was an art - though the moment he happened to glance over, catching the sight of Maroon watching him -
A giddy grin took over his features. Then, the next patch promptly went flying into the air - not into the crate, but into a nearby basket of rugs.
“Oo- oops,” Joshan managed, only half containing a burst of sheepish laughter.
@iinmemoria
There was a deep breath followed by a long, knowing sigh. It only made sense that towering figure was the cause of the damage, there had been nothing else in the cave to indicate otherwise. Needless to say she'd been expecting this, but the talking? It was sort of shocking.
After tucking the recovered chip into the safety of her person, Quartz stood and turned towards the voice's source; that strange mechanical being, all while the electrope lamps she had been using realigned themselves so the two were better illuminated.
“I am Quartz Til Alexandros the 9th, lady-in-waiting for Queen Sphene of Alexandria.”
“I was sent here to inspect the area after contact with the original expedition team was lost. I deeply apologize for our intrusion, as it was not our intention to cause a disturbance." She put a hand to her chest and bowed somewhat, trying to remain respectful in the face of an unknown threat. "Though with your permission, might I summon a few extra hands in order to retrieve these automata? Once that is done, I will have a perimeter erected around this location so that you might have your peace."
The intensity of the being’s stare did not lessen as she spoke. Nor did he move further – but his hand remained on his weapon, still looming there in the darkness of the cavern.
“No,” the voice grated out. “I will not allow others. You have tormented the creatures here enough.”
For so long, he had slept. It has been eons it felt since there has been any reason to wake. Nothing lived down in that place. Not even insects moved in the earth nearby.
A week prior, however, something had stirred.
Small creatures, by his standard. Rough skinned with stubby legs, almost fin-like in the shape of their claws. He knew not what they were called.
What he did know, was that nothing came down here by choice. They had fled their natural home. And, judging by the way they had scrambled away from the automata that now lay scattered on the ground…
“If you wish these automata moved…I will move them.”
He would allow no others to pass.
She's singing - sounding not unlike a yowling cat.
"Hehehehee~"

Wings beat as she soared about, but the goddess squinted upon a rather odd looking creature never seen before. Curious as anyone well would at such... eyebrows? Hathor descended before a bright smile greeted her.
And likewise, a smile just as bright greeted in turn.
"Well met!"
One really never knew what surprises might greet them each day.
Those strange brows quirked curiously, a sparkle of intrigue in her eyes.
"Hehe~ And, who is it exactly I'm meeting?" she asked.
Whatever the case - she was delighted.

Continued from a reunion
She beamed up at him – just as warm and spirited as she’d always been.
“Aw, you tease~” the woman winked, grin impish. Then, her expression softened, some, the line of her brow creasing.
“I was worried, when I never heard back from you. I kept asking Dickscal if my letters arrived, but he always just said you didn’t write back.”
With that guy, she had her doubts. Still-
“I mean – it’s totally fine if you didn’t want to! Or if you were busy!” she added quickly, waving her hand in emphasis. Then, her expression softening once more -
“I’m just glad to see you again.”
She meant it. Really. Even if he didn’t want to keep in contact, even if their friendship didn’t mean to him what it meant to her – she cared for his wellbeing. She would never stop caring.
"A mysterious cavern has been discovered beneath the area recently delegated for electrope processing. Examine its interior to ensure safety of personnel on site and determine if there is a possibility of delay in construction."
Normally Quartz would simply give this matter over to a squad of automatons due to her workload, and she had, but there has yet to be a single report back in the time they've been gone. Due to the odd circumstances, Quartz would eventually arrive on site and personally follow in the footsteps of those who went down earlier.
Save for some unidentified minerals winding in and out of electrope deposits like roots of a tree, Quartz couldn't see a reason for the lack of communication. Depth didn't seem to be an issue as she could still communicate wirelessly with a team outside, nor were there any signs of monsters, so what was the issue? She would only find out at the end of the tunnel, where the bodies of the missing automata laid broken at the foot of some… being.
The light she had been using slowly panned up the figure, giving Quartz a better idea of what she was now dealing with. Not only mechanical in nature, but biological as well? Certainly didn't resemble anything that Alexandria or Lindblum had created, that's for sure. That mysterious mineral was jutting out of it too, giving the appearance of it being inert - unable to do anything aside for sitting and observing what little there was in the dark. But if this thing truly couldn't move, how did all of these automata end up in such a state?
With slow, deliberate steps, Quartz would make her way to one of the sprawled out figures and remove a chip from the back of its cranium. Best to play it smart and safe -- she'll get answers back at her office using the data they collected.
@myriadventurers
As she went to collect the chip, the silence stretched on around her. It was as if even the air stood still – dust suspended in time, unmoving.
Then, something shifted. A low, rumbling creak, reverberating through the darkness.
No longer was the colossal being still.
“Who dares disturb my sleep?” came its voice – deep, gravelly rock, as if long unused.
With another creak, the being’s fingers curled around the scepter at their side.
“Leave at once….or you will die.”

╼ ༺ :|| Suspended for... gods knows how long in this lab tube... Wires connected, tests and observations upon the failure he'd been called since even before they'd put him in there. Alive- aware of things going on outside. Even tears shed for his mother still clung onto him within this strange liquid which still somehow allowed him to grow from the 10-year old to now. Not that he he how old he was now, but his mind had matured regardless. He was aware of the researchers still stopping and examining his prison, their muffled voices too hazy to discern. But they were there.
If he could only exert his own movement and open his eyes...
It was a cycle that never ended.
At least, up until then.
The muffled voices droned on as usual, but there, within them, another rose up. It was a voice both steady and firm - so precisely clear-cut that it stood out entirely from the rest.
Still, whatever the discussion was, it ended in a matter of minutes. The presence of the voice vanished immediately after. In its absence, the monotony readily returned, stretching back out into hours of the usual tests and observations.
The next shift was more subtle. It came as a muted thud - so soft it was almost imperceptible. Silence followed, lasting a matter of seconds, before a series of unusual beeps broke through the quiet, coupled with the furious clack of keystrokes.
The chamber hissed.
Then, slowly, it began to drain.
From the other side of the glass, a helmeted figure stared back – one finger rising to their lips in a motion of hush as they spoke.
“Don’t freak out yet. I’m gonna get you out of here.”
It was the same unfamiliar voice as the one before.
