“Oh, wow, you look amazing!” Lilo said excitedly. “I wanted to stitch on a fake plastic heart onto the front of my dress and put like, fake blood around it, but Nani said I couldn’t ruin my dress. But forget about that, wow you look killer. How are you?”

“It’s not easy, but you’re doing great,” Anela encouraged Lilo as she holds onto the girl’s arms. She slowly let go of Lilo but quickly tries to reach out for her when the girl slipped and landed on her butt on the ice. “Oh my gosh, are you okay?” Anela asked picking her friend up. “I guess surfing’s easier since you can move around water than ice.”

“Thanks,” she said with a laugh, nearly falling again. Lilo continued to laugh as Anela helped her up. “I’m fine, I’m fine. It could’ve been worse. I could’ve caused a pileup.” That would’ve been kind of interesting though. Oh well. “Yeah... You know what would be cool if I could have like, a paddleboard with two big blades on the bottom and I could just push myself around on that. That would be fun. Also, I think I described a sled... maybe we should get a sled. We could take turns dragging each other around.”

“I’m trying,” she said, her legs wobbling on the skates. “This feels so wrong and unnatural. Dancing is so much easier.” Lilo felt like she was about to slip back, grasping tightly onto Anela’s arms. She tried to maintain her balance. When she felt like she got it, Lilo let go of her friend’s arms, took half a step and immediately slipped back onto her butt. Lilo immediately burst out laughing. “I’m so bad at this!” she giggled. “Why is surfing somehow easier?”

“Hey, have you seen a squirrel with a ribbon on its tail?” Lilo asked the random man in the park. “I found him a while ago and took him home but my sister totally flipped out so I let him go, but I wanted to be able to find him again. So now I’m just wondering if I’m looking in all the wrong places or if he got the ribbon off or if something happened to him.”

Lorelei reached into the pastry bag and blindly tore off a piece of her muffin and took a bite.   She made a face and spat it out into a napkin.  Blueberry?  She hadn’t ordered that, she didn’t like blueberries.  She always ordered chocolate muffins unless there was something seasonal that sounded good.  “Ugh baristas are the worst.  They’re always messing up the spelling of your name or your order,” she whined loudly.  “Here have a free muffin.  I just tore a bite off it.  It’s not what I ordered.”  She pressed the pastry bag into the arms of a passerby, desperately getting rid of the offensive muffin.

“Well, to avoid that, I usually give them some weird name, like Draxson so if they mess it up it doesn’t matter because it’s not my name anyway.” Lilo shrugged. She looked into the bag. “Thanks,” she smiled, never one to turn down free food. “What did you order?” she asked, taking a bite of the muffin that seemed pretty good. But she could understand how it wouldn’t taste as nice if it hadn’t been what you ordered.

Philip blinked surprisingly at the girl’s reaction to the spider on her shoulder. Usually, when people see a bug on them, they react to shrieking and panicking. However, the girl did none of that. “Hm, it seems like she’s got a soft soul. I feel Kathleen suits her more,” he suggested.

“Yeah,” she grinned. “Hey, Kathleen, I’m going to move you now, alright?” she said, putting her hand up to let the spider crawl onto her palm. Lilo studied her for a moment before pulling out her phone and snapping a quick picture. “Cute.” she smiled, walking to a nearby tree and letting her spider friend climb off. “See ya around, friend.” Lilo walked back to the man. “Thanks for pointing her out. If I went home with her on me, my sister probably would’ve flipped and tried to squash her or something like a crazy person.”

“Don’t move and freak out, there’s a spider on your shirt…” Philip pointed out at the small critter crawling on the person’s shoulder unbeknownst to them.

Lilo looked to the small thing crawling over her. She pulled her hair from down her back over the opposite shoulder so it wouldn’t climb into her hair, hopefully. “Cool,” she said looking back to the man with a smile. “What’re we thinking name wise? Margaret or Kathleen?” she thought for a moment. “Normally I’d think of something more metal for a spider like this, like Thrasher or something. But she’s got a soft soul, don’t you think?”

Moana grins at the other’s greeting, feeling happy and relief that someone spoke her language. “I have classes for adults on Wednesdays and Fridays, the beginner’s classes are at noon and the advanced classes are in the late afternoons around four o’ clock,” she explained. She sensed that the girl was nervous, so she does her best to encourage the other to be comfortable around her. “That’s so cool! If you still got it and want to advance your skills, the advanced class is for you, or if you still want to get back on it the beginner’s class is also suitable. Whichever suits your skillset best.

She grinned brightly. “Cool. Maybe I’ll check out both, see where I feel most comfortable.” Though she was always up for a challenge, so she figured she’d do fine in the advanced class. “Thank you. My name’s Lilo, by the way. How long have you been teaching classes here?”

Nathan was going to be wary about a random conversation, but luckily for him, it was a subject he actually thought was interesting. He spared the girl a raised eyebrow before taking the bag from her and shaking it, trying to see more of the bones. “Uh. One sec.” Casually, Nathan opened up the bag and started sorting through the bones, picking some of them up and looking at them carefully. “You’ve got a mix bag. There was a lizard tooth but you’ve also got some squirrel. And this one’s from a bird wing.”

Her eyes lit up. Because she was interested in what he had to say and also because she was surprised he wasn’t creeped out by her question. “Really? That’s so cool,” she peered into the bag with him. “Definitely will add these to my collection. Glad I ran into you and not someone who would just tell me I’m crazy. How’d you get to know so much about bones?”

“Alright class, I think that’s about it for dancing today. I will see you again same time next Tuesday and Thursday, and make sure to practice your routines.” Moana said to her young dancing class before eyeing at a girl much older than the younger students enter the dance studio. “Malō, I mean hello.” she greets the girl correctly, unsure if the other understood her Samoan greeting. “What can I do for you?” she asked.

“ Malō lava,” Lilo returned, smiling. She wrung her hands around the strap of her messenger bag. She seemed so nice already. “So, hi. Um. I was just wondering if you did some sort of advanced class? Or at least let adults into the beginner one?” Lilo tried to stop feeling nervous, but part of her didn’t know what she’d do if there wasn’t really a place for her to dance here. “I used to do hula dancing back home, like ever since I was a little girl. And so, I was just wondering if there was something I could join here?”

“Hey, I found these bones in the park. They don’t look like something from like, a chicken or ribs or something someone would be eating. Don’t worry, I used a napkin to pick them up and put them in this bag. But they seem pretty clean,” she held up the ziplock, examining its contents. “Do you have any idea?” probably not smart to go up to strangers and show them a bag of bones, but when had Lilo ever been good at social interactions.

“Oh, sir, you look absolutely dashing,” she said in a joking voice, curtsying to him. “What a fine time we’re having here at this dandy little party.” She lost whatever voice she was trying to do and to figure out slang from the time period. “I don’t know, what did people in the 20′s say to each other?”

“this is so fun!” Lilo laughed a little, twisting so the skirt of her dress twirls out a bit. “Why don’t more people dress like this anymore?” She looked back over to Anela. “Are you having fun?”
