shalnark had taken a liking to you ever since you had crossed paths on a mission. naturally, you were on opposite sides of the conflict; that didn't stop him from purposely tripping you over to fall right at his feet
in that moment, you gave him an all but welcoming glare, brushing yourself up in a hurry as you were called by a voice from afar. but he only needed those few seconds, eyes locking momentarily, to be convinced that you were the one
it was your attitude, your mannerisms, your...being. everything about you just seemed to spark up something in his mind, and he simply couldn't get enough. watching you disappear into the distance made him realise that, unless he took some sort of action, he was most likely never to see you again
but, unfortunately for you, the two of you did indeed meet again. though, this time it played out a little differently. somehow he had managed to sneak into your apartment, pricked your arm with what you would later assume was some sort of sedative and whisked you away into the hazy city streets
you tried to fight your way out of his grasp. hours spent clawing at the walls of what could only be considered a jail cell. no windows, only a bed and a simple toilet to keep you company when he wasn't around
it was a nightmare. you had heard from others that, despite his cheerful appearance, shalnark was one of the most unnerving members of the troupe. you were now realising what they meant by that
he was good with his words. a little too good. excluding the first few days of captivity where he would be inclined to knock you out whenever you'd try to go up against him, he would always greet you with the kindest of smiles
a plate in his hand, or sometimes even a gift. it didn't matter what he visited you for, his sickly smile never faltered. it was as if he were mocking you

shivers ran down your spine each time he insisted on feeding you. there was something definitely not quite right with him. however, endless days of the same treatment eventually took a toll on you
he happened to walk in on one of your worst days. hands holding your head, you were sat in the corner of the dark room, tears slipping through your fingers
months had passed since you had last had a normal, human interaction. you craved comfort, reassurance, sympathy.
shalnark wasn't stupid. he could see what was going on with you. he would purposely avoid embracing you and giving you any affectionate attention. it was a mechanism that worked all too well for him.

teary eyes shot up from your curled up position, turning your head to look straight up at him. his figure was almost a blur from the light that shone in from the door. if only you could just-

he brought one of his hands out to caress your face, soft skin brushing against your tired features. you closed your eyes unconsciously, trying to imagine that it was anybody but him in that moment, finally giving you the peace you craved

your back was gently pushed back against the wall, legs finally straightening so as to prevent yourself from falling. you didn't lean away from him, though, bringing your face closer to him and resting your forehead by his shoulder
you were so entranced in your imaginary bliss that you hadn't even realised his hands had moved. a smooth touch roamed from your chest down your stomach, brushing over the fabric of your thin cloths
it wasn't until his hand made it a little too close to your thighs that you jolted up, stiffening upon realising his intentions

the hand that, just seconds ago, had been cradling your face was quickly wrapped around your neck, pushing your head back against the concrete wall with a low thump
as you looked up at him, it was clear that something had shifted in him. his eyes no longer held the same gleam as a few moments ago

presents are for special occasions, that's how hisoka sees it at least. truth be told, he has rarely ever received presents, be it his birthday or any other day of celebration. he never builds bonds strong enough to be involved in the act of gifting.
so you're definitely a change for him. when you first starting seeing each other, he would be surprised whenever you'd show up with a small flower or token that you had picked up along the way

only when he realises that all of these trinkets are for him does he start feel gratitude towards them. he would ask you if you wanted him to bring you something in return, as a way of exchanging goods.
you were quick to shake this off though, explaining to him that is was simply one of the ways you showed that you appreciated him. he'd chuckle in the moment, but would later be found looking at each little gift in his home.
it was a way that he was reminded of you, even when you weren't around. if he had to take on a mission in some far away region, he'd be sure to pocket one of your gifts. subconsciously, he'd start looking for other things that reminded him of you so he could bring them back
and so it became a sort of tradition between the two of you
however, he was unable to match the gifts he would receive on his special day. clothes, utensils, snacks...hell, you even went as far as to buy him new decks of cards, despite knowing that he wouldn't use them until he'd run down his current one.
but even with these larger gifts, he couldn't help but smile every time you'd approach him with something small. his favourite gifts of yours are those that you have made yourself
letters, sketches, crafts, you name it. he loved them all
knowing that you put in the time to make something for him like that just made his whole world light up. truly a sight to see from the one and only hisoka

he straight up doesn't get the point in gifts. he's stoic at the best of times, so it won't be any different the first time a flower is placed in his hand, picked up by you. a lily you had spotted on your way to the zoldyck residence
he would stare blankly at the little plant. you eagerly awaited some sort of reaction, but were hit with a wave of disappointment when he brushed it off his hand
"illumi...I got that for you, you could've at least kept it a little while"
he may be dense, but he does understand emotions when it comes to others. whoever dared to make you feel sad or afraid would quickly be approached by his looming form. but this time, he had been the one to make you feel this way
blinking down at you a few times, he took your arm, leading you into the mansion

little did he know this would send you on a tangent. each time you'd get together, be it to see each other or because of a job you were both assigned, you'd be accompanied by a little gift.
illumi would accept them, though the first few times he'd discard them as soon as he lost sight of you. he just didn't understand the importance of such small, insignificant things
that is, until you gifted him a small ribbon. it was leftover from some sewing you had been doing that same afternoon, and you decided it would be a perfect little trinket for him
he was unable to protest as you took hold of his wrist. his skin, cold as always, was met with a bright, green ribbon. it wasn't too flashy, but enough to show a difference in his usual appearance.
as the two of you took upon the mission you had been assigned, his eyes would catch glimpses of the small ribbon. it sort of reminded him that you were there, with him, in that moment
and, to his surprise, it had the same effect when he returned home that day. as he sorted his pins, he realised that the small fabric wasn't annoying on his skin; in fact, he rather liked seeing it there
in a way, it connected him to you. and the fact it was a gift from you just solidified his dreams of always having you by his side

chrollo barely has any possessions of his own. but this isn't because he doesn't want anything: the nature of his profession makes it rather difficult to call somewhere home and store things away there
he relies on stolen goods and abandoned buildings. it's not like he needs much more than that when he's constantly on the move
when you first joined the troupe, he would noticed your tendency of picking up little souvenirs of everywhere that you visited. necklaces, newspapers, books, you name it
other members called you the hoarder of the troupe. you just couldn't leave a trinket of interest alone, and he had always wondered what you did with all of them
when the two of you started dating, you would sometimes bring him some of the things you had picked up. he would find it amusing at first, gently placing whatever it was on a nearby surface and keeping it there until the troupe moved on to the next mission
but he soon found himself wanting to take some of these gifts of yours with him. the smallest trinkets were his favourites because he could store them away in a pocket or a little box
you would notice this in the way he'd inspect the things you gave him. contrary to how he would first react to them, he showed genuine interest in what you gave him. needless to say, it was wonderful to see your partner appreciating your little ways of showing that you loved him
the other members would notice when their boss had been gifted something new, usually because he'd be holding onto it during meetings. they found it amusing, to say the least
but chrollo loved it. bring him as many trinkets as you pleased, he would be sure to keep them stored away.
every now and then, he'd pick up flowers to take back to you if he happened to cross gardens, trying to make up for everything you would give him

the two of you had had an argument that same morning about something you couldn’t even remember, but you had stormed out of the house in an instant, leaving hisoka behind
as you walked through the city, you happened to come across one of your friends, a male friend at that. hisoka had never truly liked him, but you couldn’t care less about that right now, he was the least of your worries
your friend offered to go and have a drink in a café he quite enjoyed, and you happily agreed. you needed someone to talk to, get your mind off of the stress that you had caused yourself just a few hours earlier
as you chatted with your friend, you could feel yourself calming down, completely forgetting all about what had happened. you couldn’t find the words to thank the one in front of you, so you simply enjoyed his company whilst you held the conversation
not an hour had passed when you spotted, from the corner of your eye, a red-haired man approach the building
you knew he was going to barge in and probably make an unnecessary scene, trying to get you to go home with him
but you weren’t going to budge, not this time
however, things didn’t seem to be going as you had expected. instead of entering the café, hisoka’s tall form landed on a woman’s, whom you had never seen in your life
it looked as if he was enjoying himself quite a bit, as he was getting ever so close to her and smiling down in glee. what the hell was he playing at?
you managed to avert your gaze for a good twenty minutes, but it got to the point that you just weren’t going to put up with his actions any longer
bidding a quick farewell to your friend, you exited the café and made a bee line towards your boyfriend, who still hadn’t let up his teasing act
needless to say, he would find your reaction amusing once your reached him, and you knew as soon as you got back home he would tease you endlessly about it

this probably wasn’t the best idea you had ever had. at all
you couldn’t exactly recall the reason as to why you barged out of the large mansion in rage, needing to get away from your partner
all you knew was that he had pulled on the wrong strings and you were more than just angry
so you decided to hit the streets of the nearest village to the zoldyck’s residence, it hopes that you could find something to do to take your mind off of the rage you were currently drowning in
coincidentally, you stumbled across one of your good friends, who happened to be a guy. you had known him for absolutely years by now, and despite Illumi’s dislike towards other men being around you, the two of you still kept in touch quite regularly
it was the perfect opportunity take a break and catch up with him, so you followed him to a nearby bar where he offered to buy you some drinks
though everything was platonic, the dark eyes that stared at you from beyond the glass windows didn’t see it as such
you hadn’t noticed Illumi’s empty glare, as the lights from inside prevented anything that was outside to be seen
it was now his turn to get slightly angry, seeing as the guy next to you was getting awfully close and comfortable around you
were you cheating on him already?
it wasn’t until you said your goodbyes to your friend that you encountered the looming figure that was your boyfriend
had you not noticed his distinct scent, you would have screamed. you loved him, but he could be downright creepy sometimes
like he was being right now

it just so happened that he had ticked you off in the phantom troupe's hideout, having tagged along with them because you were convinced that the current mission wasn't as dangerous as others they had been assigned.
truth be told, the main reason was to spend some little more time with your partner - who, at the moment, you couldn't even look at him without spurting steam from your ears. despite having been away from each other for the best part of three months, chrollo still managed to say something way out of line.
so here you were, steps echoing throughout the abandoned building. the gravel stabbing your feet only incited you to speed up, and it wasn't long before you spotted another member of the troupe in the far distance.
you couldn't tell if it was phinks or nobunaga, as whoever it was had their back turned to you. either way, it seemed you had stumbled across a perfect opportunity to get back at chrollo
it wasn't an unknown fact that chrollo liked to keep what is his, his. uvogin had tried to see how far he would take this ideology by flirting with you, almost earning himself a one way ticket out of the troupe by chrollo's hand
but, you had never flirted with one of them. what could be the worst that could happen?
"hey phinks, do you think you could check if there's something on my back? i swear the spiders in here keeping targeting me"
the blond hadn't noticed your presence until you were only a few feet away from him. he gave out a low grunt as a response, typical for the large majority of the men here.
you turned around, lifting your hair up to give him a clear view of the back of your neck. footsteps in the distance could be heard, faintly, as they approached
"can't see anything; shalnark probably pricked you with one of his pins earlier"
"oh, but are you sure? it just feels like there's something on me just...here"
you slipped the strap of your top down, showing the skin of your back to the spider behind you.
phinks, on his behalf, was a little more than just confused. he got along with you, but surely you didn't hold that much trust in him, especially when chrollo was-

your partner's stoic smile never left his face, but by the way he held himself before you, it was clear the question had more than just curiosity behind it

phinks internally thanked you as, when you spoke up, chrollo's eyes turned from burning into his down to your own, a clear shift in his stare as the corners of his mouth stretched out a little more
"well, I'm always here if you have questions. no need to resort to others. surely you don't want to be a burden"
deciding to leave you two to it, the blond behind you managed to slip away. however, he knew he would be receiving unimpressed looks from his boss for the next few days.
you, on the other hand, would about to be dragged by your boyfriend into a secluded area. for a good lesson, he'd say

all along he had known that you were a shy person, too innocent for this world. it was one of the reasons he had initially taken interest in you, so he wasn’t surprised when it turned out you were that way
however, he had expected you to have another side to you, a more open side that wasn’t afraid to fight if you needed to. he had been oh so very wrong about this
when you showed him your nen ability, his first reaction was to ask if you would accompany him on the next job he had. your response had been a quick one, yet it hit him like an arrow to the chest
you didn’t like violence, and thus, weren’t going to engage in any kind of fights
hisoka would bombard you with questions, trying to pry you out of your fear. but it all proved useless, you weren’t gong to be moved by his words
he would eventually get over it, accepting the fact that he wouldn’t have a fighting partner
it didn’t annoy him, but he did wonder if some day you would change your mind. the answer was a clear no, but he had his hopes up
whenever he would return from a job he would comment the fact that it would have gone much better had you been there with him
to which he would receive a soft chuckle from you, assuring him that he was more than capable of taking care of his rivals without your help
you were much more comfortable on the sidelines. you were aware of your abilities, but you weren’t wiling to put them into use if it meant hurting others
though, not using them hurt hisoka more than he would like it to

the amount of times you would be dragged out into the middle of nowhere and be forced to use your abilities was just astronomical
illumi didn’t want good skills to go to waste, so as soon as he knew about yours, he will immediately try and change your mind about the whole “not using my abilities because I don't want to hurt people”
it was simply ridiculous to him
of course, you will cave in and use them if you happened to be taken out to a deserted area
but as soon as he had a target in mind, you would refuse. he would try his best, bribing you and even telling you that there would be a reward, but nothing seemed to work
and he wasn’t going to waste all day trying to get you to do something when it seemed to be absolutely futile
he would be angry at you for a few days, after telling him about your nen ability
but it will soon blow over as he saw no point in being frustrated in something he couldn’t change easily
unfortunately, you’ll probably not be able to go out alone much after that as he would consider you as someone much weaker than himself
so expect to spend quite some time inside from now on
every now and then he will try and get you to use your ability, but you wouldn’t budge at his words
he supposed he was okay just with knowing that you weren’t completely helpless. if someone decided to take you hostage, you would be able to fend off the enemies until he arrived
so that was all he needed
you will, however, sometimes use your nen if you happen to be with him whilst he’s training. you don’t mind using it if you know the other person won’t receive injuries because of it
and illumi is more than skilled enough to dodge your hits
but if any of the butlers were nearby, you would keep it at a minimum. they were the ones who were kindest to you in the mansion, after all

probably the most understanding one out of the three
the initial reason for the two of you meeting had precisely been your nen ability, so he knew from the start how strong you were
though, when he offered you to join the troupe, he had been surprised with your answer
you knew who the Phantom Troupe were, and you knew what they did. not that you despised them, but you didn’t agree with their violent ways
at first, he thought you were just playing hard to get, but after a while he realised that you were being dead serious. he would need to find another way around to keep you near him
you settled with working with him, but without being involved in any sort of missions that included using your nen power against another person
did he find it strange? a bit. he would have thought that someone with such a power would want to flaunt it, maybe even abuse of it
and yet here you were, the complete opposite of his expectations
every now and then he would ask if you could show him your nen ability, just to make sure you still had it
an obscure request, but he wanted to know that if you were ever caught up in a dangerous situation, you would be able to defend yourself, if nothing else
he will find your dislike for violence almost a weak point of yours. he won’t judge you for it, far from it, but he feared that it might lead you to get involved in more serious situations
since he’s the leader of the troupe, he has quite a few eyes on him, looking to take him out. and if anyone were to find out about you, he wasn’t quite sure what would be the outcome
so be sure to keep yourself on the low. though, you wouldn’t have to worry about it too much: the other members knew about your abilities and the importance you held for chrollo, so they would always have an eye on you

he would help you, in those cases. you thought it was maybe just so he would look like a considerate person in front of the hundreds of eyes that watched him, every minute of every day
but it was truly just him helping you out the best he could
would he mock you? sometimes, yes. but he never means it in a harmful way, it comes out more as a playful comment more than an insult that one may take the wrong way
you had gotten more than used to his pettiness and his double-sided comments by now anyway
he wouldn’t allow anybody to make fun of you, though. if even a small laugh came out from someone when you knock something over by accident, he will be quick to give them a lecture about how he didn’t find it amusing to mock small mistakes like that
the person that would most get these talks though would be none other than ging, no doubt. he actually got along with you quite well, but pariston always shot him a double-edged comment whenever he would smile at your clumsiness
his signature smile will never falter, though
all in all, you can be sure that you are in good hands with this man
sure, he may sometimes give out a little sigh if you really mess up, but he will never get angry. he understands that it’s just simply how you are, and he accepted it

it caught him off guard when, during a mission both you and himself had been ordered to take on, he saw a blonde figure flash past him in an instant
had he blinked, he wouldn’t have seen him. luckily, though, he was able to throw one of his controlled vessels in front of the one who was charging towards you at full speed, halting his step as they were taken back by the sudden appearance
kurapika had seen you let down your guard for a split second as you checked on your wounds, and found the perfect moment to strike
however, shalnark wasn’t having any of it
you whipped around to meet a pair of ruby eyes, piercing into yours as the owner realised he had lost a perfect chance of delivering a hit
you knew who he was. despite not being part of the troupe during the time they had gone against the chain user, you had been told about him a few times now. and here he was, standing right before you

the blonde straightened up, surprised at the fact that the new member knew his name
he didn’t have enough time to react, though, as he was swiftly hit in the back, hitting the ground in an instance
“I get you want to get rid of us, but they had nothing to do with the massacre, so I suggest you back off before I string you up with your own chains”
eyes flicking between the one on the ground and your partner, you were unsure of what to do. you were just as shocked to see kurapika, and even more so at the fact that shalnark had lost his signature smile
you had seen him serious before, but the hatred he held in his eyes was unmistakable, almost to the point it was terrifying
kurapika remained silent, noticing that the other members were nowhere to be found. there was no reason to fight if all of the troupe members were there
with a defeated scoff, he lifted himself off the ground, taking his leave
returning to his usual, positive self, shalnark turned to look at you, looking for any possible attacks received from the escapee
he regretted ever coming out on the mission now. even though he knew he could probably fend him off until you managed to escape, he didn’t want to risk losing you to the one who had left the boss almost helpless

in the same situation as shalnark, kortopi will materialise whatever he can to avoid you getting hit by the blonde nen user
he isn’t someone to speak to much, rather he will use his actions to display his discontent towards the sudden attack that was about to be thrown at you
kurapika was familiar with his abilities, but it was still relatively a challenge to try and dodge everything that was thrown at him
he was beyond angry at the fact that you had almost been attacked by him, despite the fact that you were one of the few that was able to say that you weren’t involved in the reason for kurapika’s rage
it would get to the point that the chain user will realise that were no other members around, except for the two of you, and take his leave
he could attack when you weren’t involved
kortopi will be quick to see if you had received any major injuries, or even a small scratch from the one who had just left
he held just as much hatred as the others towards him, and was ready to take him down if the circumstances allowed it

he would give a few more minutes, until he decided that it was getting a bit too much. placing down his champagne glass down on a nearby table, he would walk towards the two of you
“I see you’ve met my partner? You seem to be getting along quite well, however...I’d like you to know that I don’t appreciate lowlifes like yourself to speak to them as friendly as you are”
you would remain silent as your eyes switched from chrollo to the guy who had been trying to convince you to be with him

you had been there when he took on both shoot and knuckle: they were so naive and boisterous, on knuckle’s behalf. you sometimes missed those times when they weren’t pro hunters
the bond between you and morel was purely platonic, but it would sometimes be mistaken as something else. nobody had expected morel to keep someone by his side for so long without having some sort of relationship with them
however, it was really just that. nights spent drinking in a bar as the two of you reminiscence over old times, laughing away and hoping that those moments would last forever, just as any other that you spent with him
of course, it hadn’t always been laughs and smiles. both of you had been hit several times by the consequences of becoming a pro hunter
but you had always been there for each other. you can’t count the times morel has had to fix up your injuries, and the times you have had to give his back a massage because he strained himself on a mission
it was comforting to have someone so close, being concerned over you and yet still knowing how to have a good laugh

being kite’s partner has an obvious outcome: you will see the most spectacular places and discover the strangest beasts out in the wild with him
you were someone very special to him, thus the trust he had in you to take you on his expeditions. not even his team went on every trip with him, so you were quite the lucky person
other than travelling with him, the two of you will share a strong bond. this will mean that he won’t hesitate to jump into a fight if your life is in danger
he will go to extremes to make sure you are safe, and of course you would reciprocate these actions
you were an extravagant duo, and anyone who has gone outside has seen the two of you either analysing areas or simply just passing by to get to your next destination
kite would get particularly more “friendly” at night. this means that he will be all ears if you had anything to vent out about, or simply need someone to listen for a bit
during the day it’s quite hard for you to just stop and talk, so you would wait for the quiet night to fall to hold full on conversations with him
it’s a hard job being a travelling hunter: if you happen to make any friends along the way, know that you will have to leave them shortly, never knowing when you are to see them again
but having kite by your side made it easier: you were never really alone
even when he would just sit in silence beside you, admiring the views from your resting spot, you felt at home

it had come from a curious reporter that happened to spot the young zoldyck son, and was eager to know how you had become his friend seeing as his brothers were much against friendships
he would see is as unnecessary, and would try and avoid the reporter at first. however, they didn’t seem to let up, so you were practically cornered by them
he answered the questions directed at him, but he wasn’t quick enough to pull you away from the situation when one landed on you
unable to answer, you looked around in hopes of finding a way to dismiss them without sounding extremely rude
but it seemed you were on your own, and you could feel your heart starting to race and your voice being caught up in your throat
deciding that he had had enough of the situation, killua quickly grabbed onto your arm and, with a quick excuse that he had somewhere to be, sprinted off away from the reporter
just by the way you slightly struggled to control your feet as he took off suddenly, he knew what had happened
once you got somewhere away from prying eyes, he would ask if you were alright
he was extremely sorry that he had put you through that just then, and he assured you that he would avoid letting that happen again
oh, and as a way of asking for forgiveness, he will for sure take you to eat some ice cream, offering to pay for as many bowls as you’d like !

being in a relationship with chrollo meant that you were either going to have to always stay inside, or take part in the troupe’s activities, so as to not be seen as a vulnerable target
you opted for the second one, as you actually quite enjoyed being with the other members. however, being involved with them implied getting into certain situations
situations that were far outside your comfort zone
most of the times others would speak in your place, but there had been others that you were left by your self to negotiate with other criminals
which would lead you to enter an anxious state, so severe that it would get to the point where you would be unable to speak
you hated it, but knew that it was what you had to do if you didn’t want to spend the rest of your time stowed away in your shared room
chrollo will be notified about this by one of the troupe members, and he will quickly make sure that you are never put in such a situation again
he wasn’t able to be there during certain missions, so he put his trust upon the other members to avoid you having to endure being put on the spot
of course, if you’re with him, you won’t have to worry about becoming anxious. he knows how you feel, so he will take the lead if you were caught up in a tricky situation whenever you two were together
if you come home feeling stressed after a mission, chrollo won’t waste a second to get you into a warm bath and prepare you a meal
though he had never experienced such stress, he could only imagine how hard it must be for you, so he would try his best, once you got home, to calm you down
but again, you don’t have to worry too much about being put on the spot
you’re dating one of the most powerful men in the criminal world, so you’ll be looked out for whenever you go out

with feitan, things may go a little different. the times you would be put on the spot would be during meetings with the rest of the troupe, so it was a regular situation for you
he didn’t quite grasp the reason behind your stuttering and fumbling around whenever you were asked directly a questions regarding any information that was needed in that moment
you found it hard to speak, to breathe, and you would just hope someone would speak for you instead of having to be under the stress you felt
unfortunately, sometimes you had no other option
feitan would ask you, at some point, why you acted such a way. you couldn’t possibly be nervous in front of people you had been working with for quite some time now
he just didn’t understand it
when you told it that it was because whenever someone would abruptly ask you something directly, your mind would go blank and you’d get lost. this lead to an increased sense of stress, and everything was just downhill from there
even after your explanation he would find it a bit strange, but he would understand. he was someone who couldn't care less if he was in front of you or a thousand people, he wouldn’t really get nervous or anxious over speaking towards others
but knowing that it made you uncomfortable to answer sudden questions, he would start to answer with any information he had
he though that that way he might give you a base to start off from, and from there you could catch onto the response
and if he ever saw you under a severe amount of stress because of this, he won’t hesitate to speak to the member who had bombarded you with questions, accusing them of being inconsiderate towards you
