i can’t be the only one who feels this way around the Holiday time. Anxious about all the coming together from people you haven’t heard from all year. Seeing estranged family or feeling completely left out of one. sometimes its hard to deal with, feeling like someone doesn’t like me- especially family. i mean, I’m human. and when i was younger that “imagine you’re in a room and everyone else is naked” thing didn’t work for me. it made me feel even more left out that somehow everyone else was in on this gig to leave me misinformed. So i even started making my anxiety everyone elses problem. although i could see and feel everyone enjoying the motions around me I couldn’t believe why I could not get comfortable. Why I still felt upset with my aunt for calling me fast as a child-or that creepy drunk family “uncle” friend who’s eyes linger on me a bit too long- Im the one who felt naked in a room full of spectators. So I stopped coming around, felt like seeing less of me would have them talk about me less- felt like the whispering would fall behind my back- but I was wrong. Problems you cannot run away from- my skin I cannot hide from- so I decided to invest my time and energy into people who loved and honored me. Who appreciated my awkward and my son. I made a new home and opened it this year to all the love our tiny apartment could fit in it. And I felt home, and i felt safe- I even still felt naked.
