Lost on earth / open & tagged: little Emma
“Th-then why you have that stick?” She asked,“ a-and I mean th-the planet,” she mumbled a bit not sure if the other was as nice as they seemed,“ p-please don’t go.. I-I’m lost,” she sniffed.
“Oh, uh-- so I can walk without, uh, falling. I- I need it ‘cause I, uh, can’t see.” She’s used to the question -- the teacher made her explain it on the first day of school (something which Autumn desperately did not want to do) -- but her response is still shy. “It’s, uh... good?” Autumn replies awkwardly, not exactly sure how she’s expected to respond, “my- my parents’ll be really mad if I, uh- if I- I don’t get home soon.” She’s not kidding. She needs to get home.
Emma smiled when she noticed that Autumn didn’t move with the water running,“ I’ll wake her when I’m finished with my bath,” she mumbled to herself hoping that Autumn would stay asleep for that long.
Surprisingly, Autumn slept rather peacefully while Emma took a bath (still waking up every few minutes, but falling back asleep immediately); spread out a bit more on the bed once Emma was finished was the bath and obviously more comfortable than when she first fell asleep.
i ordered my first binder yesterday!
are you a chrome enby or a firefox enby?
are you a crop top enby or a hoodie enby?
are you a milky tea enby or a black tea enby?
me: haha can u believe i’m Gay(tm)
everyone ever: yes
.
me: wow I don't hate myself as much
me, five minutes later: I can't believe I was ever that innocent and naive
Emma just there pouting trying to act like she was still upset though a small smile came when she heard that she might be able to play with Autumn, but as soon as it came it disappeared.
A few minutes later she had gotten up and went to her drawing pad, came back, and started drawing everything in the garden. Once she was done with that, she sneaked over to Autumn,“ hey, I got something for you,” she whispered.
While Rosemary negotiated with Emma, Autumn continued working hard in the garden, totally disregarding the two as she worked. So, she is surprised when Emma speaks next to her, Autumn jumping slightly before biting her lip and quietly responding, “oh?” Pulling one last weed out of the dirt, she sits up, whisper matching Emma’s. “What is it...?” She doesn’t try to guess; Autumn honestly has no clue what it could be, but immediately worried that whatever it is, it might get them both in trouble. But, hey, she finished pulling out the last weed, and she can’t ignore Emma.
“That’s right I guess we all have silly names; I call Daddy Doctor but he’s not a medical one is he?” River smiled glad to see Autumn now happy.
“He helps with boo-boos! Last time I- I got a splinter and he got it out, and it didn’t even hurt a lot!” Autumn knows that he’s not an actual Doctor, but sometimes he acts like he could be one. “I’m hungry, mama,” Autumn says, completely changing topic, “Can you make pancakes?”
Parents with Children
"It's like I'm playing germ warfare and I'm loosing."
"Why is this sticky?"
"No! That's mine!"
"Cleaning the house is like shoveling snow during a blizzard."
"Hot dogs don't come from dogs, do they?"
"I love answering 'why?' 32 times in a row."
"I don't like taking naps."
"Daddy, put that thing back in your pants."
"Silence around here is very, very suspicious."
"My child is one year old, not twelve months. They aren't a cheese."
"Do you have any friends?"
"Why is this wet?"
"They won't leave me alone for a second... not a second..."
"Bed time is reserved for discussions on how the universe became what it is."
"That's funny!"
"How do I undo scissors?"
"Children have their own set of rules."
"I haven't slept in three days."
"What is that?"
"I eat breakfast with screaming kids."
"I wish I could fly."
"Just because you can amaze our child by chewing with your mouth open, doesn't mean you should."
"You lost me in the store!"
"Grown-ups are boring."
"What is that smell?"
"Why is the sky blue? Why is the grass green? Why is the sun so bright? Is the moon still up there? Where do the stars go? I want a sandwich."
"I would ask why there are crackers all over the floor but... why?"
"When is the last time I took a shower?"
"I just want to read a book."
"Were you always old?"
the issue on the table: a quaker delegation in philadelphia is calling on congress to end the african slave trade and abolish slavery in all its forms. the petition is written and signed by benjamin franklin; it can not go ignored. if this comes to a vote in congress, what is the white house’s position? secretary jefferson, you first; tread lightly.
sir, the constitution clearly states that the states have to wait until 1808 to debate on whether to end the slave trade, and whether or not you want it, guys, that is the final compromise we made. (sir, wait!) but for a second let us say that we can legislate unanimous emancipation, freedom reigns, and, yes, it’s great; we can not cure prejudice or righteous, desperate hate. so, back to africa or do they get a separate state? in 1784 i tried to throw banning in the west; my notion didn’t get a single post. slavery’s a sin -- it’s growing like a cancer -- but we can’t address a question if we do not have an answer.
is it my turn? good. plantation states are packed with promise makers; do you realize the precious time these legislators wasted? institutionalizing slavery only multiplies our troubles; wait ‘til the 1800s and the population doubles. we all know that this is a stain on the soul of democracy; the land of the free -- no, it’s not! it’s hypocrisy. to subjugate, dehumanize a race, call them property, and say that we are powerless to stop it; can you not foresee? sir, even you; you have hundreds of slaves whose descendants will curse our names when we’re save in our graves. how will the south find labor for its businesses? how will thomas jefferson find his next mistresses? (how dare) but still, people line up like lemmings; all your hemming and hawing while he’s hee-hawing with sally hemmings. (that’s enough!) well, you asked how i feel; i don’t pretend to know the answer, but the question is real.
if i may, mister president? (madison) let’s take this moment to establish a precedent. first of all, sir, we won’t involve you in this; imagine this debate with all of congress: it’s ruinous. i’ll reassure the south 1808 is still the year that we agreed upon; that buys us time and assuages fear. i’ll tell the north that on january first of that year we’ll ban importation handling the worst. once we get all this agreed upon i’ll pick up a pen and introduce a notion never to discuss this again. (mister president) hamilton, if we support emancipation every slave owner will demand compensation; and as for slandering jefferson will talk of mistresses, do you really wanna -- really wanna have this conversation?
(no) madison execute your plan to the letter. let’s home the next generation thinks of something better...
Lost on earth / open & tagged: little Emma
“I-it’s okay,” she said,“ c-can you t-tell me where I a-am?” Emma asked the girl as she looked at the stick in the others hand,“ i-is this a b-bad place?” She asked cautiously.
“Um... I don’t know what this, uh- what this street is called...” Autumn mumbles, thrown off by the question. “It’s- it’s not really bad,” she replies, still nervous as she inches back slightly, “it’s, uh- there’s cars on the road and they’ll- they’ll hit you if you’re not careful. But that’s, uh- I have to- to get home now...”
“Okay, and I’ll make sure no one comes in here, so you won’t be disturbed,” she told her as she walked out and closed the door behind her.
After Emma had seen her parents off she went to find out what was some of Autumns chores and did some of those, so the girl could sleep, once she was done with those she came back into her room and went to start a bath for herself.
“Thank you... So much,” Autumn nodded, not moving for a few seconds after she hears the door shut. When she finally does move to the bed, she lies on top of the covers (she knows that they will be cleaned, but she still does not wish to make the bed any dirtier than necessary) and curls into a small ball. For a few seconds she lays there unable to fall asleep before all of a sudden sleep overcomes her.
She can’t help waking up every few minutes, every time an immediate feeling of anxiety weighing down on her chest for she knows she could get in trouble before falling back to sleep.
“It’s my garden to!” She retorted,“ I don’t wanna draw,” she said as she plopped down onto the ground,“ I don’t care about getting dirty,” she mumbled with her arms still crossed, but she was starting to calm down.
“I know you don’t care right now, but you might later,” Rosemary sighs, knowing that Emma will soon relent, “you should draw me a picture. I really want one to put on the wall in my room, and you’re the best artist I know. And you know, maybe Autumn can play with you in a little bit after she finishes what she’s doing here.” Rosemary will finish Autumn’s chores so she can hang out with Emma if it means Emma will leave everyone alone. She loves the child, but sometimes she makes everything harder than necessary.
