Superprestige #6 Diegem: The women’s race.
I’ve honestly never seen anything like it. Cameron flatted through all of his tubes on a prototype tire and these guys rallied around him to help him finish the final 40 miles on a dead flat tire, trading pushes the whole time. This is far more inspiring than any race I’ve ever seen. These guys are proper legends. #thereabouts #thereabouts2
Last week my brother, James, and our good friend and proprietor of this blog, Chris Riekert met me in San Francisco. It had me thinking that the best rides are shared with the best people. Because the best people make you a better rider, push you to go faster, help you rest, share a joke, and keep your mind occupied during the longest rides. I think back on the thousands of miles and hours, and I’m struck by how lucky I have been to have shared some amazing wheels over the years. I realize that it’s a big part of what makes the miles worth it. I’m prone to being alone. Riding long weekends, 7 or 8 hour rides, alone with my thoughts, maybe an audiobook. You can get lost inside your own head, or get free from all those buzzing thoughts when you are alone. But the most memorable rides, from early weekday workouts to weekend adventures, have always been shared. Those rides, and those riders, serve as my reminder to keep inviting new people out, waking up on time to meet the group, spend more time in the wind, pass a bar back, and go faster.
Couldn’t agree more and happy to say I’ve accompanied Dylan and James on a couple very memorable rides. Hope to enjoy more in the future!
