"and the tennis court was covered up with some tent-like thing" isn't taylor being lazy?? it's a clever way of instantly informing the audience several facts: firstly, that a story is being told, into which we've come into part way through, and secondly, that the storyteller had had the sort of upbringing where they wouldn't know what a marquee is and had never spent any time at country clubs and fancy outdoor events. plus, since it's further confirmed that this takes place in the past, long before any internet or social media or mobiles (when she sings "now i'm waiting by the phone like i'm sitting in an airport bar") we know that these hustlers would never have consumed media in the way we do now, they only knew the things from their small town past and that which they learnt in the course of hustling rich folks. it's literally genius storytelling i don't know what to tell you.
