~Hello lovelies. It has been quite some time. This is just a lil teaser to a short series I’ve got in the works. It's been a while since he stepped foot in Small Heath. Since the war with the Italians, the people of the run down city knew that the next time they'd see Thomas Shelby's face was for his funeral. They were partially correct.
Because when Tommy stepped inside the betting shop where it all began, it felt like his chest was going to explode.
He took slow, meaningful steps to the back, laying eyes on the already open safe door from afar. Polly was standing at the entrance, staring into oblivion. Thomas stood by her side.
Leaving the Shelby's speechless was difficult. But this was a loss they couldn't fathom.
"Every fucking pound." Polly simply stated after taking a long drag of her cigarette. "Every pound. Every shilling."
The safe that was once overflowing with cash from the not so legal side of business matters was now an empty room. They had actually forgotten what color the walls were before today.
"We'll get it back Polly. Don't worry." His calm voice was bordering on nonchalant.
"And how the fuck do you plan on doing that, huh? We don't even know who did it."
"Put the cigarette out and come here." She looked at him as if another head grew from his shoulders.
"Tommy we got wiped clean in the middle of the night. We don't have time to play your fucking games."
"Do what I said." He stepped inside and took a deep breath. Polly threw the fag on the ground and walked inside the safe after stepping on the embers.
"What do you smell Pol."
"What're you talking about Tommy." He grabbed her shoulders and stared into her eyes.
"What do you smell."
She rolled her own and pushed his hands away, turning and inhaling deeply. It took a second before she picked up on the scent he was referring to. It was faint and light, but still there.
“Honey?” She spun around to face him, so fast she almost lost her balance. “You’ve got to be fucking shitting me.”
“Call a meeting for tomorrow.” He pulled on the dangling string before stalking out of the now dark room. “They're back.”
