Character development task 002 - Imani Linh
for: @imani--linh location: luna park, coney island on opening day
It was that time of year again, when Oliver had to embark on his usual trip to Luna Park and take a ride on the Cyclone. It wouldn't be spring if he didn't. He knew by now he probably should have grown out of it, but some traditions couldn't be broken. "Thanks for coming with me," he commented as they headed through the gates. "Always feels weird to come here alone."
"What like I am gonna ever turn down time with my favorite short king?" She smiled and looked at Oliver, bumping him with her hip. "You can call me anytime, you know I am down to do whatever." She paused "Unless it's like... ouija boards. I don't mess with that." Imani looped her arm around Oliver's in an attempt to keep herself from darting off ahead to any nearby distraction. "And if I don't leave without getting some ice cream, I'm.... I don't know. I will steal your favorite pillow."

𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭, and nathaniel was enjoying the atmosphere of the club, drinking the mixed drink that he ordered and dancing to the music. when the song transitioned, he turned to look over at person next to him and he laughed. " god, i forget how vulgar these songs can be. " nathaniel remembered when he moved to the states and going to his first school dance there, and how crazy the music was. it hadn't changed, even today. " still a good song, i guess. " he started to sway his body.
"WHAT?" She yelled, even though she had actually heard him, it just took her a moment to process it. "Oh! You worried about vulgar? In a club? String bean, if you looking for some Miss Rachel songs, that's a different place." She said with a smile. Glancing at him as he started to sway she quickly reached for his forearms. "You dancing with me now, okay?"

𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 was received, and cillian was more than happy to go. he didn't know exactly what the event was for, but he couldn't so no to an event that provided free alcohol. he walked up towards the bar and he ordered his drink before turning around and looking at the different people around. he still wasn't sure. eyes locked to someone nearby and he smiled. " so–– do you know what this event is for? "
Imani had walked in to this even and immediately made her way to the bar. She wasn't going to turn down free anything. Grabbing her key lime pie flavored drink. she turned to the guy next to her she smiled and wiggled her fingers out towards the crowd. "Oh sugar, I know what this has gotta be. I bet it's a cult recruitment. I heard a lot of them lure young hot people in with free shit. Try to make us feel like this is some sort of amazing community. But no, you keep your head on a swivel, chicken little. They gonna try to get you." She said with a big, gleeful smile.
She couldn't help but laugh at this whole situation. This is why she could never leave this city, this is why she could never leave this part of town to be more accurate. She grabbed the girls hand and was gladly pulled out onto the dance floor. This is what she was made for, this is her bread and butter. She immediately felt the song in her bones and went with the rhythm. "This is the best night!" She was so thankful for the distraction of the night, of being able to get lost in the music, and being able to just escape her life for a couple hours. "What is this song?"
Imani was already wobbling halfway to the floor when she heard the girl ask what song it is. "You don't know Whitney??" She said as she started enthusiastically dancing and singing to "How Will I Know" by Whitney Houston. It didn't take long for some guy to try to start dancing his way between them. Imani's response was to suddenly stiffen up, stand perfectly still and do her best impression of a tornado siren into the man's face. It didn't take him long to walk away. Grabbing her new friend's hand she continued dancing, pulling her in close just to not get separated.

Whenever Theo wasn't still neurotically organizing the kitchen in their new house they were walking around their new neighbourhood with their black lab Roy in tow, their — well, maybe not so— little companion while their fiancée was working. Exploring the city by themselves was one of their new favourite activities so they could tell all about it to Imogen when she got home from work, telling her about the places they wanted to visit together.
It was in one of these walks that they got distracted by the flower shop a few steps away from them, making a mental note to try this place since it wasn't far from home and they needed a flower shop to get Immy's Saturday morning bouquet. Roy tugged at his leash and started barking at someone suddenly that it made them jump a little. "Roy, calm down buddy, it's just a person— I'm so sorry. He's new in town and feeling a little defensive." Theo apologised quickly, making Roy sit next to them.
Imani was walking down the street, having hit up the nearest dollar store to stock up on her household gummy bears and necessities. Wearing her typical outfit which consisted of every neon color she could find, her feet were starting to hurt from doing her errands in platform heels. She knew she should have changed into her heelies. Checking her purse, she jumped suddenly when a dog started barking at her.
Jumping back, she clutched her bag and stared between the dog and the dog's owner. "Can you like... tell him I'm cool or something?" Imani had always had a minor fear of stranger's dogs. She didn't dare step forward in case it upset the dog further.
At least when it came to Imani Vera knew what to expect, she was always doing her own thing and beating her own drum, which is why she was never too worried when Imani was late. “Of course they do, I notice the same thing in the gallery, they come to visit and then spend the whole time sitting on a bench staring at their phones like zombies.” She held up her latte with a grin. “Valentines drink, it’s a raspberry white chocolate cheesecake latte, I’m being absolutely bombarded by sugar and I wouldn’t change it for a second.” She paused, laughing lightly. “I think you might need a warm drink, one day I’m going to run across an Imani popsicle I swear.” { @imani--linh }
"So stupid. Part of me is tempted to just roll right over them. But I know I'd absolutely eat shit." She clicked her long nails in excitement seeing her friend. "Whaaat? That sounds sweet as hell I am gonna get the same thing." Imani was so deeply addicted to sugar. In fact, at that very moment she had a pack of sweet tart ropes in her purse she was trying not to pull out. "Girl, we both know I am too hot to freeze." She smiled and shimmied her shoulders playfully.
Stella loved the bathroom at a bar, the women in there were always so nice to her. It was a rite of passage to have the best experience with a tipsy person in the bathroom, but this was not what she expected. She looked up, starting to feel her drinks she reminded herself she needed to slow down when she went back out. "Oh you're too kind." She kept cool, calm and collected. "I think I put on a Burberry perfume today. Pink bottle, who knows. How about you, you also smell amazing!" She blushed and tucked some stray hair behind her ear, "Oh, once again too kind. You're really the beautiful one in this bathroom."
Imani smiled and nodded hearing the name of the perfume. Way out of her price range, but she was sure she could find a dupe somewhere. "Ohhh see I knew you smelled expensive." She said with a smile, pushing her long blonde hair over her shoulder. "Oh this? Broken Love. From five below." She said as she grabbed her strappy purse and threw it over her shoulder. "I mean.... I am looking pretty fine tonight." She smiled and turned, admiring her own ass in the mirror. "OH SHIT.'" She quickly grabbed the stranger's hand. "My SONG" With very little warning she started pulling her new friend in an attempt to get her on the dance floor.

Alex didn't usually take this shit. She prided herself in being strong, tough, the kind to stand up for the little guy. Yet for the first time in a long while, she sat here in the club - dressed in a flared mini dress that cinched in the middle and accentuated the curve of her body to look absolutely gorgeous yet still professional - opposite an older man with a gaudy suit and stupid smirk. Alex knew the moment she arrived that the man had other intentions; it didn't help that he also made it abundantly clear with his borderline racy jokes and unwelcomed touching. Had he not been a very massive donor who just signed off on giving six figures to Alex's charity, she would have tossed a few drinks in his face already. "Really, Mr. Maldov, with your generous contribution, we're going to meet our goal. I so appreciate your time today -". Her words were cut off by a hand on her arm, one she tried to shake away as politely as she could but his rough hand tightened its hold. Mr. Maldov leaned in closer. "Do you believe in karma? You know, since I contributed so much today, that I'd get a contribution back?"
Imani was wearing her nicest neon purple crop top and neon green pleather mini tonight. Having gotten off the clock, she decided she was gonna stay and have a drink. Imani was acutely aware of her surroundings most of the time. Especially where she worked. She knew all the signs of other women in distress. Smiling to her friend who was bartending she ordered the special key lime pie flavored drink he made her. Her ears perked up overhearing the conversation next to her. "Damn, I didn't think people still tried the whole quid pro quo thing ya know? I thought that shit had been outlawed." She said with a smile, but her eyes looking at the man pointedly. Leaning in she tapped the woman's shoulder so she could inject herself further into the conversation. "Do you believe in karma brother? Because I gotta tell ya... you're on your way to something."

Imani was busy washing her hands and then messing with her lipgloss when a woman stepped up to the sink next to her. "Girl... I gotta know what perfume you are wearing because you are smelling like something delicious." She smiled and turned, leaning her hip against the bar, ignoring the minor buzz she was feeling from a few drinks. "Dang you're cute too!"

"Do you want an espresso martini?" Willa asked, sliding the drink to the person sat next to her at the bar. "The bartender gave me two by mistake."
Imani had walked in and immediately clocked the vibe of the place. Trotting confidently up to the bar she sat down and was ready to order when the girl next to her mentioned an espresso martini. "By mistake?" She said raising an eyebrow. "Did you watch him make it?"

Vera had been sitting at the table at least five minutes now, and that might not have seemed like a long time, but she was starting to wonder if their friend was showing up. When someone approached she looked up from her cup of coffee. “Ah there you are!” she nodded. “Sit sit!”
Imani was running late, which was hardly uncommon. Bustling through the door she paused as she tried to snap her heelies shut without using her hands. "Babe!" She said happily as she happily bounced over to her friend. "Girl let me tell you... I have never had so many people stop and stare at their phones directly in my path." She set her neon green purse down, letting the many keychains clatter against the table. "What did you get?" She said looking at her friends coffee as she adjusted the rainbow fur coat covering the simple bikini top she was wearing. Was she cold? Yes. But fashion was more important.
