when we were
Thereās a difference between giving grace and being a fool. Family, friends and significant others show you exactly who they really are and whatever we allow is our own fault. Those boundaries and standards we put in place are to protect us. Donāt break em for anyone.
slavery was 100% more worse than we were told.
Special shout out to Trayvon Martin...RIP baby boy.
I was going to make this short, sweet, and to the point, but knowing my history, and being connected to it empathicly has made me feel like I needed to say more!
55 years ago the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was signed into law by then President Lyndon B Johnson which legally prohibits racial discrimination in voting. 55 years ago. My then 24 year old great-grandmother could still legally be forced to pay a poll tax or forced to take a literacy test in order to cast her ballot. My people were forced to sit while white men and women voted for people who only benefited them.
My people marched, protested, beaten, had dogs sicced on them, high-power water hoses blasted at them, DIED so that their voices could be heard.
Their voices MADE A DIFFERENCE. You can go to school where ever you want. You can live in whatever neighborhood your heart desires. Your children can sit in class and be taught the same material as their white counterparts. Hate crimes are a federal offense punishable by death. And so much more. No one stated that there isnāt more work to be done because it most definitely is, Iām saying that voting has made life slightly better for African-Americans than it was 55 years ago. I REFUSE to let these 21st century hoteps disrespect and negate every sacrifice that my ancestors made by falsely stating that āOur vote doesnāt count anywayā because if it didnāt you wouldnāt be standing here today allowed to make the decisions in which you. You are a product of the generation lynched just so you can have thee amount of freedom that you do in 2020.
RESPECT THE SACRIFICES MADE FOR YOU!
VOTEš³
If your vote didnāt count they wouldnāt being trying so hard to take that right away from you!
