My silly little feelings on Red (Taylor's version)
There’s a part of me that can’t help but think “I shouldn't be feeling this emotional about an album that I've already listen to one thousand times before”, but I am.
The thing is, this isn’t just another album for me. Red was the first Taylor swift album that I’ve ever listen to, the one that made me fall in love with her music and visit all her other albums, the one that made me appreciate telling stories in the best way you can and teached me there’s no shame in telling them with heart and honesty. That feeling things deeply is not a flaw, but something to be proud of.
When Red was released for the first time I was 12 years old. I’d just started high school and I was trying to navigate this new, exiting world. I remember making new friends and singing 22 with them all the time, thinking of the day when we would finally be that age. I remember writing the number down in the back of our hands with sharpie like they were matching tattoos.
And now this new version is out in the world and I’m no longer a kid.
Now I’m 21. I’ve been a fan for about ten years, I’ve experienced a lot of things in my life, grown in many ways, and Taylor’s music and words have been there to help me get me through a lot of that.
So… thanks Taylor. Thank you for this album, for allowing us the opportunity of experiencing this body of work for a second time, this time being under your own terms. But also thank you for teaching me to how to live and feel in full vibrant colors.
