I don’t know where I read/heard this nor can I confirm whether or not this is cannon but I firmly believe Dennis’s proclivity to watch young ladies “dance” stems directly from the recent incident with the two high school girls at the zoo. I also 100% believe this desire is controllable or at least managable and that the closest he had ever gotten to an actual real life encounter in that regard is with Marcia in the beginning of Split.

It seems like too much of a coincidence between his struggle with younger girls and the incident at the zoo for it not to be an intentional connection

We also know he never apparently did anything to get kevin/ barry in trouble so he must have not acted on it before split. It’s also interesting that he obviously didn’t view the incident as enjoyable but as an attack that required his intervention.

Dennis is so complicated and interesting. What he’s doing is terrible but you never get any sadism or lack of compassion vibes from him. When dr. Fletcher points out that he’s hurting the girls, you can tell he knows and it bothers him but he’s so indoctrinated in his beliefs that he keeps going forward.

Look, I have no idea what the hell were the intentions of Mr. Shyamalan, but I’ll not take away the merit of the film, since I found it creative and especially tragic.
