awesome girlfriends
We all agree that
YEAH
Okay but can we like
Actually address that the way Amity acted for most of this episode wasn’t cute? Yes she goes to great lengths for Luz, but it was motivated mostly by her need to, and I quote “justify existing”. She was genuinely worried Luz would ditch her if she proved herself to be useless.
Amity is traumatized, and thinks people only want her around as long as she’s useful to them. That’s not cute, and I don’t like that people are romanticizing that.
Her realizing that Luz was just complimenting her and worried about her at the end and that of course she was because she’s Luz, and not all people are like Amity’s parents… What she said to Hunter about there being people out there “that won’t make you feel worthless”… That was so so important. And then the reassurance she got from Luz at the end, that all Luz cared about was that she was okay, was so cute and perfect. Can we talk about that instead of romanticizing Amity’s abuse trauma?
Amity can’t just turn off the toxic mindset she spent her whole childhood learning, but I feel like this episode and especially the end was a big step for her, and that’s what we should be celebrating.
i like their little phone things
we stan a legendary cotton candy haired goddess tbh
Edit:
I really loved Amity’s little arc with her new relationship status because there were points where it felt like she was wearing her “girlfriend” status the way she used to wear her “top student” status. Something she’s made extremely important to her identity that could be ripped away from her at any misstep. It’s how Hunter was able to manipulate it so easily.
And she was able to check herself by the end and remember that this isn’t an award she’s earning by being The Best At Girlfriend, it’s a relationship that involves two people communicating and trusting and working through it together.
That was just real nice.
