when indica first told her mother she wanted to be an olympic gold medalist gymnast, she simply didn’t believe her. she’d always been what some call a ‘tomboy’ getting scraped up knees, dirt bikes, monster trucks, climbing trees, and digging for worms were among some of indica’s favorite activities as a young girl. but as much as she loved getting down and dirty and physical, she was also a dainty, sweet, girly girl through and through. the perfect blend of both one would say, she had to have it both ways, and why not? there was a time to be rough and a time to be soft. something indica mastered perfectly. she loved to sing, dance, and paint her nails as much as she loved to run, go to the race track, and play in the mud. she was truly connected to her inner being, and she wanted express every inch of her souls desires in this lifetime of hers.
with a single mom as a parent, she couldn’t afford gymnastics classes straight out of her mom’s pockets. when she was seven, she had to audition to be evaluated for a scholarship. at first her skills weren’t sharp enough, she didn’t know much about the sport yet and could do the basics like a back walk over and cartwheels. she begged the directors at her gym to let her join the team via scholarship and because of her dedication and passion, they agreed. everyone in the gym knew she had potential, it was just a matter of getting her the proper training. gym became her first love. she eat, slept, and breathed gymnastics and all it had to offer. quickly climbing levels and skill set, indica was set to make the national team at 17 and it was her biggest opportunity and shot at making it to the olympics.
indica was homeschooled to give her more time to practice and eventually it all paid off when she made the olympic team at nineteen. it was all so surreal. she really made it to the 2016 olympics and won the gold medal for balance beam. even though she made world history, indica was holding back a devastating secret. her gymnastics coach from the olympic team had sexually assaulted her during a one to one practice one night and she was too scared, in shock, and confused to talk about it to anyone. right after winning the gold medal, she pressed charges on him and it started up a wave of other athletes coming forward against him, one by one more people standing behind her as it all went public across the globe.
indica moved back to her hometown of virginia beach to get away from her old life as a busy gymnast, training 24/7 and living to die for the sport. she enrolled into an art program at a university to feel like a normal person again and that’s where she met her current best friend and discovered her love and talent for art. not only did she pick up a knack for art, specifically ceramics, she also started taking up surfing, something she used to do for fun when she was younger, before she got into gymnastics so seriously that it consumed her life. finding her way back to the water is therapeutic, and she’s even won a few competitions since her return of 2017. she started she’s exploring life and finding ways to heal her inner child and all the things she didn’t get to do while sacrificing her time and energy to gymnastics. she’s a free spirit and will let the wind take her wherever it needs her to go, she enjoys the thrill of an experience, and sometimes that takes her to places she has no business going.
her secret night life includes an anonymous street racer alter ego that she’s created to escape her life tied to gymnastics, the pity stares, and murmurs were still traumatizing to say the least. it was a constant reminder of the public knowing her most vulnerable moments, the feeling their eyes give her makes her skin crawl. the underground street racing clubs meet up at random locations and indica always shows up in the same black and pink racing getup, the all pink helmet with tinted eyeglass that covers her identity. everyone in the club knows her as ‘the dark princess’ a name that was given to her after her many wins, always leaving right after, never taking off her helmet, and never saying more than what she needs to. it’s all so mysterious and intriguing to the others, whispers of her name echo the underground scene and everyone wants to know, who the hell is the badass who’s beating seasoned members left and right? she knows she can’t keep this up forever, but she can’t seem to walk away.
