My first Fastly talk!
I've joined Fastly!!!
I'm super excited to announce that I've become a distributed systems engineer at Fastly. Stay tuned for my adventures as I attempt to help make the web go faster.
I stopped by QCon New York 2014
I gave a talk called Computational Patterns of the cloud. Materials are up on https://github.com/Randommood/Qconnyc2014
Thank you to everyone who came. I had a great time giving it.

My All Your Base talk on Data Antipatters is up!
Earlier this year, Engine Yard began to sponsor some exciting development as part of our first ever OSS Data Sponsorship. The sponsored team (which includes PostgreSQL hackers Oleg, Teodor, and Alexander) recently got back from PGCon EU where they gave two talks - Next Generation of GIN and Binary storage for nested data structures and application to hstore data type.
I gave a talk on Data Antipatterns at All Your Base Conf in Oxford
The wonderful organizers of All Your Base Conf in Oxford invited me to give a talk. I loved the conference and I'm very grateful for the experience. Video coming soon.

A trip down memory lane: Postgres Open 2012
My first talk ever was given at Postgres Open 2012. Here is the video:
Postgres' popularity is growing, and rightfully so: it's reliable, performant, and competes well with traditional (and expensive) enterprise databases like Oracle and SQL Server. A year ago, Postgres' presence in the Engine Yard stack was almost non-existent. Focused primarily on MySQL, we only provided an Alpha version of Postgres 8.3 -- our offering was not feature complete, did not support database slaves, and was already becoming outdated. With Postgres 9.0 released in 2010 and with 9.1 scheduled for September 2011, we found ourselves facing a difficult challenge: how to give customers a first-class Postgres experience while catching up. Come hear the story of how we overhauled Postgres provisioning and what we learned in the process of making Postgres a default database.
Engine Yard has been a long-time friend and sponsor of open source projects. Over the last few years we have made contributions to projects like JRuby, Travis CI, RailsInstaller, Vagrant, and many more. But in our long OSS sponsoring history there was something missing: a data-related open source project. That is no longer the case.
So you have your PostgreSQL application deployed on Engine Yard Cloud and everything is going great. You have enabled a few extensions, have added basic redundancy by spinning a database replica...
Riak hits GA on Engine Yard Cloud
Stopped By RICON East to GA release Riak
Ricon east from Ines Sombra
Hello from NYC! We stopped by RICON East to share great news. We are thrilled to announce the General Availability of Riak on Engine Yard Cloud.
I went on tour!
During April I stopped by the following places to spread the gospel of Riak at Engine Yard:
NYC's Riak Meetup
POSSCON
E-Hire Labs Meetup
Big Nerd Ranch Tech Talks
I met a great deal of wonderful people and had a blast presenting our Riak product. I'm looking forward to sharing more news!
Here is the distilled slide deck:
