Question if someone hasn't already asked, what's the inspiration behind Galatea's design?

Why the tentacles and that thing on an angler fish for her?

Was her appearance based off a myth like how she is?

Galatea was really fun to design honestly! I was trying to hit on a few specific points and ideas I wanted to communicate, and I eventually ended up with how she is now by the third draft. Though the first draft she was a weird goop blob that looked lowkey like ass, and the second she was more insect-like and resembled a butterfly kinda? That also looked bad lol. I'm real happy with how her final design turned out.

The thought process was basically "ok how do I communicate these without saying anything" - otherworldly - alluring/enticing - but also clearly a predator - intelligent

Otherwordly -> strange combination of traits you wouldn't see in life naturally -> multiple/extra limbs or missing ones -> combination of non mammalian traits in what should be a mammal.

Alluring -> ok whats alluring uhhhhh fun colors? -> uhhh fish are brightly colored? Maybe fish? -> but brightly colored fish are usually in tropical areas near the surface. It's not like they cant be dangerous but that doesn't really scream predator which I need to also do...

Predator -> Deep sea fish are usually predators, or at the very least that's what we think of...

Intelligent -> octopuses are really smart, and squids are definitely predators of the ocean -> ok so maybe a tentacle theme? But what about the bright colors? -> Maybe they could be accents so they read less as a defense mechanism and more like a warning or threat? ok that kinda works but what about the enticing part? -> Anglerfish are also deep sea creatures, they have lures on their head specifically to get prey to come close -> if she's already deep sea themed, ill just add a lure also. -> plus the lure can have more fun colors in it so she looks radioactive and dangerous to touch while the lure makes things want to get near her -> Why not a void mouth too? That way she's expressionless as well so it's never clear if she's about to attack or not- oh and dead fish eyes has to be a must now -> boom. monster lady complete.

She's based off the myth of Pygmalion and Galatea, though it's got nothing to do with her looks. Functionally, she's meant to mirror galatea if Pygmalion was ill of the mind to the fullest extent lol.

Currently, no. But I really want to make more monster ladies since I'm also fan of creatures that feature in creature feature- so I'll likely spit out some more monster women at some point. I've designed some monster people in the past but truthfully they're not very good, I think galatea is my best (and coincidentally- most recent) monster design.

Not a question but I just finished Go For it Nakamura-Kun cause I’ve been meaning to read it for like three years (I watched the anime) and idk if you realize it or not but you’re work and it share a lot of attributes it’s kinda uncanny I can tell it really inspired you ^^ (it was really peak btw)

You know, shockingly I didn't really model Daiki or the story after Nakamura-kun. Like I absolutely love the series, but part of why I love it is because it's so weirdly specific lol. It hits on that "shy but not truly introverted and weirdly eccentric with strong interests" character trope I adore and use in pretty much everything self indulgent that I make. I very well could have subconsciously took inspiration from Nakamura, but it wasn't a conscious decision. I think it was just a case of using the same kinds of archetypes.

How did you come up with summon a sweetheart?

Monster women are cool and I rarely see them actually made as monsters, instead of just regular people with weird colors or a tail or something. Like girl I was promised monsters where are they???

The actual way I came up with the concept is far too personal to share for my liking- so I just won't lol. I'm sure you can infer something or other from the game itself.

This has tugged at me since I played the game, but why why WHY does Penelope end up alone in the first place???

I mean... look at her.

To avoid going on a massive infodump monologue: Penelope basically had bad circumstances compound onto each other over a lifetime. It's not like there was one "big bad" event that "did this" to her. Someone like Penelope needs to go through a lifetime of pain and troubles- maybe even combined with inborn traits that make life harder- to end up that way.

For a lack of a better way to say it- her suffering did her in. Her whole way of existing is very, very hard to break out of once you start slipping even a little. Even if you recover, you're always one misstep away from falling again. That doesn't exactly make you feel like a normal person that can totally get along with other normal people. You'd feel like someone who lives in hell talking to people who live in candlyland. And that's even if you have the energy to pick up a phone and speak to another person. Which is also not likely lol.

Do you think Galatea ever grows to enjoy Penelope's presence? Or is it solely the deal?

Oh definitely not, it's all for the deal. The most positive I think she could feel for Penelope is like... almost neutrality.

Galatea, thematically, is supposed to just... be a huge bitch lol. Like, IF she feels Penelope is tolerable enough for her to to stick around and consume her life force- shes saying whatever she needs to at the moment to get Penelope to crack. Which sometimes, is a fairly lucid, understanding, read of her. Penelope stays with no risk of leaving = many food for monster woman. But she doesn't actually gaf about her in the slightest. If anything I'd wager she's almost disgusted and annoyed by her constantly.

buuut if Penelope goes away, so does food... and she IS locked in to a deal... so, "yeah yeah you're so cute and sexy or whatever- here hold still real quick-" [ -50HP ]
