Nonviolent resistance ceases to function when the enemy seeks your eradication. The only way to fight that, once you fully understand what it is, is to crush it utterly. There is no other, "better" path... And if you are not a member of any group the Nazis would come for, you are cordially invited to shut the fuck up forever. You do not have skin in this game. You do not get to lecture us about what actions are appropriate in the name of our survival.
C.A. Punchallnazis (@EyePatchGuy) on Twitter on punching nazis
To recognize white supremacy in action means going beyond just shaming Matthew Heimach and David Duke for leading hate rallies by torchlight. It means understanding that these men are gears in a bigger machine — a machine that produces practices that look way more normal to us.
Americans feed this machine when they insist that cries of racism from people of color are overblown, or when they see bigotry in action, ignore it and vote demagogues like Donald Trump into office anyway.
Pointing at the white supremacists in Charlottesville and saying, “That’s not me,” allows Americans to create a comfortable distance between themselves and what they see as real, violent, riotous hate.
It’s the kind of delusion that permits a hashtag like #ThisIsNotUs to circulate — even as U.S. history demonstrates, repeatedly, that Charlottesville is an uncanny snapshot of who we’ve always been. read more
Hey so in the wake of what’s happening in Charlottlesville, your friendly neighbourhood historian is here to remind you that
the enormous majority of American citizens didn’t want to join the fighting in the second world war
for years Americans didn’t care that people (Jews) were being massacred
Hitler was doing all kinds of anti-Jewish shit for about six years before the war even started and the American government’s official response was basically ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
in 1939, the United States denied entry to 900 Jewish refugees. The boat had to turn back to Europe, and many of these people subsequently died in the Holocaust
in 1941, even though the State Department knew what was happening in concentration camps, the American government made it’s immigration policies stricter so that it was harder for fleeing refugees to find safety on American soil
it was only after an attack on American soil (Pearl Harbor) happened that Americans finally entered the conflict (the epitome of “I only care about a thing if it directly affects my life” and 70 years later nothing has changed)
it is largely believed in America today that they “won the war” when, if we’re being historically accurate, what they did was show up halfway through to tie up loose ends and then take credit for what Russia had been working towards for three years. America was basically The Vulture from Brooklyn Nine Nine. The job was almost done, and they swooped in at the last minute, did the bare minimum, and then took credit for the whole thing
tldr: America has always been, and continues to be, enormously anti-Semitic. Condemn what’s happening in Charlottlesville because it’s horrible and wrong, but don’t let uninformed people use World War 2 as proof that America isn’t an anti-Semitic place. Jewish people are by far the most persecuted population globally and historically and no country has ever done enough to stop this from continuing into 2017.
you've got the Midas touch and your shaking hands holding mine make my whole body feel like gold gold gold
part 3 of love and gold
You know how sometimes--just before the sun sets--it turns everything to gold and makes the whole world look like it's got a halo? It's pure--no oranges and reds, no world on fire--just a soft, golden glow. The way that almost sunset looks--that's how it feels when you smile at me. How could I not fall in love with a feeling like that?
Part 2 of love and gold
When I asked you how you know when you're in love, all you said was "you just know." I didn't believe you then. I believe you now. I believed you the moment I looked at her--sitting there on the floor net to me on that sunny August day--and I just knew. Her hair was a mess and her sweatpants were three days old and I knew. Her laughter was silver and her smile turned everything to gold and her skin shone like galaxies in the sunlight and I knew. I believe you because when I looked at her that day I just knew.
Part 1 of love and gold
And when she asks you what your biggest fear is, how do you tell her it's this, right here, this thing between you two that is everything and nothing all at once? How do you tell her that your biggest fear is falling in love with her?
how do you tell her the thing you fear most is your heart in her hands and her heart in yours?
All he knows is heaven and all she's ever known is hell. He's got a smile like holy a voice like prayers and a kiss like salvation. She's got a smile like sin a voice like curses and a kiss like damnation. But when they look at each other they think the same word:
blessed.
You have never been brave, and you have never been ashamed of it. But now, looking at her with her supernova eyes, her razor blade smile, and her steel enforced spine which has never bowed beneath the weight of fear, you find yourself yearning for a taste of courage like hers.
Maybe she’ll teach you what it is to be brave, and you’ll teach her what it is to be soft.
You are a lady, they say --not a person, just a lady-- So for god's sake, act like one. Sit like a lady, up tall, legs crossed. Giggle instead of howl, Kiss instead of bite, Flash them a smile instead of a snarl, Sand off the jagged edges of your tongue and your heart and your voice. Coat your face and soul in concealer, Dress your body and your words with laces and frills. Pretend, for god's sake. Put on your mask and give them all a good show. Smile and wave and do a little twirl. Be a lady, they say --not a person, not a woman, not a goddamned goddess-- Because to them, all you are is a damsel in distress.
Some poetry because every day should be International Women’s Day
She's looking at him with those big earnest eyes of hers and he hates it, hates that she's so easy to love, hates that he's not good enough for her, hates the situation and hates the way he feels. He hates, and she loves, and he knows nothing between them will ever be simple.
Her light will never be enough to outshine his darkness.
"What does love look like?" "I think maybe it looks an awful lot like us, darling."
Maybe we’ll get lucky, and this love will be all we’ll ever need to be okay.
sometimes he thinks he loves him. but he doesn't say it. he never says it. because all love does is hurt and hurt and he is so afraid of knowing pain better than he knows love. safety. happiness. so instead he knows silence.
the things he didn’t say
Forget about the way the sun loves the moon, this is the way the earth loves the sun. Because you are more than a dim reflection of his light; you are not the moon you are the earth, always orbiting him, always accepting every piece of himself he gives you, always relying on his light to chase away the darkness inside you.
he laughs when you call him your sun but that’s what he is
Having never known love Upon meeting it You were consumed by it.
You were destroyed by it.
Feelings are weapons in the hands of the wrong person, and some days it seems like everyone is the wrong person. Some days it seems like the only thing people ever do with your feelings is use them against you.
“Why don’t you ever tell anyone how you feel?”
