Hello hope things are well, question about call of cthulu joey. Does joey control his tail or does bendy? (And if joey does I definitely see it wagging when sam enters the room )
IT'S COMPLICATED UHHH,
1. Joey and Bendy have control over the tail together when fused, because a lot of their control is just together when fused. Sometimes one bows back to the other for something special, and there was that time in season 2 where they were fighting due to Yellow King Influence some, but for the most part, they are jaegering it up. During this time, the tail tends to do what they want it to do (it's not really controllable in a way they could like... open a drawer with it, but if they want to keep it hidden under a coat, that's easy.)
2. When it's post fusion time (Joey retains the physical attributes of fusion after separation for exactly the same amount of time he had been fused. So if they were fused for 2 hours, the 2 hours after that Joey still has horns, claws, tail, etc.) Technically only Joey has control of the tail at that point, but he's also not used to having a tail. So it DOES very much simply follow instinct / emotions instead of like... what he wants it to do.
3. While I do think the tail would react to things like Joey being gay at his beloveds, due to it's eldritch origin, I think it'd do less doggy wagging and more like... wiggling around itself like a snake curling up / trying to escape someone's grasp, or low unnatural sways, or constricting around said beloved's leg and pulling closer if Joey is thinking too hard about how much he wants him...
LMAO OKAY SO i wanted this to be in the quotes post but I COULDNT FIGURE OUT... HOW TO CAPTURE THE WAY BOO SAID IT WITHOUT DRAWING AN ENTIRE COMIC...... SO I DREW AN ENTIRE COMIC, here have this thing that happened in our cthulhu session
[BatIM Cthulhu] MORE CTHULHU SCRIBBLES, this time from session 4!! Here we have, uh,
The yellow fog that's taking over New York seems to be able to hijack people and make them think they're one of the characters from the King in Yellow play. Susie DID get brainwashed but we're unclear on whether the knife-twirling skills were there already. IT JUST WOULDNT SURPRISE ME, U KNOW?
AVEDONS HERE??????? If you don't remember Avedon i dont blame you, he last showed up back in seASON 2, in NOLA, where he lost his mind and locked Sammy and Jack in his closet at gunpoint and then started shooting the host at the masquerade party. He seems a little more sane this go round but everyone decided Sammy and Jack should not be in the welcoming party. Anyway sorry NYC is like this for your visit Avedon, I promise there's usually less dread carcosa
Sammy brought Prophet out to see if he could tell whether or not Peter is THE ONE THE PHANTOM SEEKS and Prophet decided to make sure he was getting an accurate reading by smooshing his hands all over Peter's face. Don't worry about it, Peter!! It's fine. Normal Sammy Behaviour.
And if you'd like some Out of Context quotes from our session, those are under the cut!
[Sammy is played by me, Joey is played by Boo (inkyvendingmachine), Henry is played by Maf (inkcryptid), Jack is played by Mochi (whatyouwantedmetosee) and Thren (haunted-hijinxer) is our GM!]
[Sammy] *recapping* Joey tried to do some bullshit, and it, uh, made things worse!
[GM] It got some attention, it seems!
[Joey] EHhhhhhhhh,
[Sammy] Yeah, he was doing his nonsense, and then the Phantom showed up because he was doing his nonsense --
[Joey] ehhhhhhhhhhh
[Sammy] And then we hit the Phantom with Jack's car! A rational and reasonable response to the unknowable.
[Jack] Joey MADE Jack hit the Phantom with his car.
[Joey] EHHHHHHHHH,
[Jack] Because Jack wouldn't do this on purpose. He likes his car!
[Sammy] I think that's entirely reasonable. No reasonable person would have done this course of events.
[Sammy] What happens if you drive a car in Carcosa
[Sammy] It's in the name, it should be a good place for cars...
[Jack] It actually cancels out because there's two of them, so you just get "Cosa."
[Joey] One of the times, the Mercedes is going to be missing and it's not because of Yellow Sign stuff, it's just that someone finally stole it.
[Sammy] Car gets its tires slashed, "THIS IS THE WORK OF THE YELLOW KING!!!"
[Jack] Even if it's safety glass, I feel like Jack doesn't want to sit in a bunch of glass!
[Henry] Exfoliation.
[Jack] ON HIS BUTT????
[Joey] Just venting about everything that has been happening, but it's clearly all this other guy's fault?
[Sammy] I love Joey having no particular distinction between "annoying person who's getting in the way of me making cartoons" and "eldritch entity" - WHICH IS THE SAME THING, it's just an annoying person who's getting in the way of making cartoons!
[Joey] YEAH!!
[Sammy] Jack struck me as someone who'd be a cautious driver.
[GM] And he let Sammy drive his car?!
[Joey] It's taking Joey a little longer to finish his ritual, because he keeps getting angry and ranting more,
[Sammy] "*draws one line* AND ANOTHER THING--!"
[GM] Avedon says you need to watch out for each other, because something's already messing with Norman --
[Joey] what, wAIT-- WHAT?
[GM] --and he needs you guys to come find him, he's at this hotel, and he thinks he knows how to destroy the Phantom.
[Joey] Have you called Norman?
[GM] He says, "Where do you think I got this number?" And then he hangs up.
[Joey] ..................................................................
[Sammy/Jack/Henry] *IMMEDIATELY LOSING IT*
[Jack] *still cracking up* H-how, how mad is Joey right now,
[Joey] ...........................I need to look something up.
[Joey] I know way too much about, the history of phone technologies now,
[Sammy] This game is educational. Nobody tells you that.
[Joey] What is up with your crazy friend?!
[Norman] You're going to have to be more specific.
[Joey] Wait, DID you get a call from Avedon?
[GM] Norman says that he got word from The Advisor earlier.
[Jack].... Hm.
[Sammy] Norman???????
[Joey] ...iS SUSIE STILL THERE,
[GM] Uh, yeah! He hands over the phone.
[Joey] IS SHE NORMAL?????????????????
[GM] She likes to think so!
[Joey] Nobody's going to let Peter choose his own methods of communication, he just gets to RECEIVE
[Sammy] Look! He was warned!!
[GM] Peter's glancing at Jack like, is this concerning?
[Jack] Well Jack looks CONCERNED, but he's not concerned about this, specifically. This is refreshingly normal.
[Sammy] And the Traitor mercifully absent!
[Jack] I know you said "traitor", but I heard "trader," like no that's a different AU,
[Joey] Oh good. No Wandering Traders.
[everyone makes villager "Hrrrm" noises]
[Sammy] Prophet's ALSO murdering llamas for leads,
[Jack] I mean, we could do with a lead about now! I don't know if we have any other than Avedon.
[Joey] *uncontrollably giggling at this joke for the next 15 seconds*
[Sammy] Oh boy,
[Joey] *still giggling* iT WAS A REALLY gOOD ONE,,,
[Joey] Does Jack's car look any different to Henry?
[Jack] Well there's a weird splat mark in the shape of a guy,
[Sammy] Be vigilant! His will can overtake your own.
[Henry] Hm,,, you too,
[GM] Does anyone want to do a summary of where we were at?
[Jack] I have an extremely short summary:
[Jack] Shit's Fucked.
[Sammy] Avedon told us to meet him because THE WORLD IS IN PERIL
[Sammy] which, I think it's really important to remember that Avedon is French, when you imagine him saying the word "peril." That's all.
[Sammy] It's not TOO late to visit people, but it is maybe an awkward time to--
[Jack] When has awkward timing EVER stopped this--
[Sammy] NEVER. It's never stopped us.
[Henry] I think it would be weirder if we arrived at an opportune time, at this point!
[Joey] It IS a great time for a snake to show up, I feel like.
[Sammy] That's true. It's never a wrong time for a snake to show up, honestly.
[Joey] Enough time has passed that Joey will come out to the parking lot.
[Sammy] I really thought you were gonna say "come out to the party"
[Jack] Joey's coming out?
[GM] *laughing* I think they already know!
[Joey] Also, Norman has started acting very weird.
[Henry] How?
[Joey] You know how, sometimes people start saying things, in situations like this, where they think...
[Joey]...yOU KNOW HOW PROPHET DESCRIBES PEOPLE?
[Jack] I can't believe you're splitting up the boyfriends!
[Jack] ...as compared to the other boyfriends,
[Sammy] I feel like it's really hard to split this party without splitting up some boyfriends somewhere.
[GM] Jack doesn't want to drive and Sammy doesn't know where he's going - ✨TEAMWORK!✨ :D
[Jack] You go through all of Henry's coats and none of them are familiar, and they're all extremely stylish
[Henry] That's not Carcosa, that's Joey.
[Jack] Oh no, his accent's Italian now!
[Sammy] That's just what happens when you come to New York.
[GM] Make a sanity check.
[Henry] For looking at a clarinet???
[Henry] Henry is... maybe taking a closer look out the window.
[Sammy] I support him. I'm not there, but I support him--
[Henry] Then, yeah, I'm gonna say he's doing that!
[Sammy] --from afar, where I suffer no consequences.
[Henry] Henry has his hand on his gun.
[Henry] ...he knows that he can't, like, SHOOT CARCOSA, but,
[Jack] Carcosa's haunted.
[Joey] I actually succeeded the luck check!
[Sammy] Congratulations, that's a feat for Joey!
[Jack] It's his natural talent.
[Henry] I wish I had the words to describe the face Henry is making.
[Henry] If Scared and Defeated had a baby.
[GM] Avedon turns around, looking wild-eyed behind his glasses, and says, because he is the master of smart things, "We need to get out of here!"
[Joey] NO SHIT, SHERLOCK!
[GM] In fact, you think you hear conspiratorial whispering in the distance!
[Henry] But our conspiratorial whisperer is accounted for...
[Joey] Joey's just going to march up behind them and ask what's going on.
[GM] They are both going to jump to their feet, and bow, actually,
[Sammy] Um.
[Jack] Hmmmm.
[Sammy] UM.
[GM] and say, "we were just dealing with matters of State, Your Highness."
[Joey]
[Joey] *quiet giggling*
[Jack] Oh no.
[Sammy] Joey doesn't need this. Joey doesn't need this.
[Jack] His ego's already so big!!
[Sammy] You're going to open the door and the Phantom's gonna be standing there.
[Henry] "Want some weed?"
[Joey] Avedon can stay with Norman. They're friends.
[Sammy] I don't-- we'll see how Norman is.
[Joey] I mean, I don't think, no matter what, that Norman can be weirder than Avedon?
[GM] You can make a psychology roll, if you want!
[Sammy] OKAY, we'll see, I'm not holding out a lot of hope on Sammy getting this--
[Sammy] *rolls* ....WELL. That is... an extreme success. I rolled a TWO.
[Jack] Are we sure SAMMY hasn't been replaced?
[Joey] Has Shazz been replaced?
[Jack] Have Shazz's dice been replaced????
[Jack] Jack is probably trying to get... any.... information out of Norman,
[Sammy] Sorry, I left you the hard mode one.
[Joey] Kiss him!!
💀 Call of Cthulhu: Haunted Hijinx Masterpost 💀
Call of Cthulhu Season Four Masterpost (Coming Soon)
Warning: This campaign is an edited version of a Call of Cthulhu scenario from the Tales of the Crescent City book. While a lot has been changed, there IS spoilers for it throughout these posts.
GUESS WHO FINALLY SHOWED UP!!!
and also a lot of other stuff happened. I'm sorry, this one is very long because I didn't take notes, and struggle to leave out details when I'm writing from the records instead of the notes.
Somehow Jack’s car, with all its original passengers and no extras, manage to make it back to the studio. Joey immediately rushes into the studio, to go rant at Bendy about everything that happened… and possibly to go fuse with Bendy because he feels utterly helpless now after completely draining himself with panicked magic.
But it’s probably just the first one.
Sammy and Henry arrive as well to find Jack and Peter quietly picking glass out of his broken car in something like shock. Upon getting no responses from Jack about what happened, Sammy storms off to find Joey.
Joey is all too happy to start his entire rant over again for Sammy as he works on fusing with Bendy. They were just following Peter’s leads and driving from location to location and then all of the sudden this ASSHOLE shows up out of nowhere and just stands in front of the car. Busts the car, terrifies poor Jack, and then on top of that tries to break INTO the car and abduct Peter?? It’s a good thing Joey managed to blast him out, but they weren’t even DOING ANYTHING that would have possibly summoned him NOTHING AT ALL... And on top of all that, being an absolute PRICK as he’s doing it!
… Anyways, how was the moooob?
Sammy updates Joey on everything that happened with Johnny Nero, which is pretty much just that he had seen the Yellow sign, that Henry removed it, and that Nero was pretty intent on getting his hands on whatever the Phantom wants first. Which like… yeah, if you wanna solve all our problems and fix this mess, go ahead! But Joey’s pretty sure that’s not going to happen, so he goes back to working on his ritual.
Sammy leaves to go back to Jack, and right as Joey feels ready to start the ritual his phone rings. The special one. And it’s… Avedon??
Avedon immediately starts info dumping on Joey about everything that’s been going on already… like, all the information Joey already knows. A lot of flat “yeah?”s in reply as Avedon rambles on, until he mentions that it’s already gotten to Norman. Wait, what?? But Avedon doesn’t stop, telling Joey to meet him at his hotel room in NYC so they can go over more information. Before Joey manages to get any clarification, he hangs up.
That’s Joey’s thing!!!
Joey is the one who hangs up on others!!!!!!!
Frustrated, Joey does try to call Norman, and… Yeah, Norman is talking in weird riddles and speech that doesn’t fit with the Normal Norman Vibes. That call is also ended with little information gained… but at least it DOES seem like Avedon knows what he’s talking about this time, so Joey’s willing to meet with him, even though he’s also feeling done with him already.
Joey finishes the ritual and merges with Bendy.
On his way downstairs, Sammy is still turning over the car event he just heard about… and the increasing evidence that Peter might actually be the Phantom’s target?? Why else would he be trying to drag him out of the car?
Sammy approaches Peter, who has since started exchanging information with Henry as they all get the last of the glass shards out of the car, and says that he wants to see if Prophet can tell anything about what happened. Sammy looks distracted for a moment, and [lack of surprise because it was actually somewhat communicated beforehand,] Prophet is here!
Prophet concentrates, and with no hesitation, mushes his hands all over Peter's face.
The good news is that, while Prophet can tell that Peter’s been grabbed by the Phantom recently, that’s actually all that he can detect. No additional eldritch stuff, he’s not possessed, he’s not weirdly marked or damaged in a way that can’t normally be seen. Great!
But Prophet can’t tell if Peter is the target or not. For his part, Peter has been muttering that it seemed like the phantom was trying to pull information from Peter on someone else he was looking for, someone who “followed us out”, but there’s nothing Prophet can sense to confirm that… but he realizes he can sense the distortions to reality increasing throughout NYC. They’re in the air, moving about… getting stronger.
Henry can feel it too.
But that’s all the energy Prophet has, and he unfortunately misses Joey showing up and dumping his new plan of action on everyone. He, Henry and Peter are going to go find Avedon’s dumb hotel room and figure out what’s going on with him, while Sammy and Jack are going to go check up on Susie and Norman because Norman is definitely acting weird now and he’s not quite sure if Susie is in over her head or not…
Nobody objects to the plan. And with NYC losing more and more of its reality to the yellow mist rolling in, it seems important that they do something.
Henry, Joey and Peter do make a detour to Henry’s house though to make sure all is well there. The car is gone, the lights are out, things seem as they should if Linda managed to follow through and get the kids out of the city. Peter is concerned when he notices some of Henry’s wards, but don’t worry, those are supposed to be there. Henry checks them over, and they all seem good. Bendy finds a bucket of clay he and Henry's kids had played with before, and brings it along to entertain himself on any following sleepovers, since that is a thing that will probably keep happening. For once, it seems like everything is actually left alone?
Until they look out back and find the treehouse Henry built for his kids is gone. Actually, it’s almost like all the landscaping and such in the area was just… cleared away? Or never happened. Joey meanwhile is tabbing through Henry's photo albums and makes sure everyone is still there, which they are. But the treehouse isn’t. And, perhaps even worse, there’s also an extra guy in the JDS staff photo now? Joey pockets it, since this guy seems to be in the music department according to the photo, but Joey is sure he’s never seen him before. And it’s not Alan. So. Hopefully the music boys can shed some light on this.
Henry grabs some supplies and his gun, and Joey turns him around to fix his outfit and make sure the gun is properly hidden. Avedon is 2 trigger happy, we don’t want to say our hellos by instantly showing off the weapons we brought.
Meanwhile Jack and Sammy’s drive to Norman’s is more fraught than the previous ones. Not only has he moved house again, (though at least this time they have evidence of his new address from the junk mail they took last time) but… many other roads are starting to move too. Also Sammy is driving, so, speed has been cut in the engine department too… don’t need to hit two things in a single day with all this mist building up, and any sort of navigation trouble puts even more delays in.
At least they do manage to find the place and head on in, with hope that also maybe now that Avedon has arrived Norman will stop being so “sticking it out in a house that keeps wandering off apparently.” Things seem kinda fine at first at least, like they’re not immediately shooed out or attacked or have any weird monsters hanging over the house waiting for them to try the door… But upon Sammy questioning Susie while Jack goes to find Norman in the back, the music boys find out that things are very much not fine.
Susie is… very confident with a knife all of a sudden, and very confident that she will be able to just stab the Phantom when given the word to go out and hunt him down. Y’know just… stab the guy who couldn’t be damaged by a 2 ton vehicle slamming square on into him. And when Sammy tries to argue this logic, it just becomes more and more obvious that Susie and Norman are both… in character. Susie’s speech cadence is even reminiscent of when she’s performing rather than talking normally. But they don't seem aware that their actions seem more scripted than decided.
Jack finds Norman in the back, with a hatchet and a very similar plan to Susie’s. But whatever is happening isn’t strong enough to make them completely forget themselves, and with some facts being pointed out and reminders of who they are, the boys manage to get these two actors back to themselves... kind of. There's still some weirdness going on, and this also doesn't answer the question of what could be done to prevent this happening again?
Neither Susie nor Norman really realized when it started to happen, and it took some serious outside convincing to snap them out of it at all… Do they need Henry to expel something to truly get back to themselves again??
ALSO, IF THE PHANTOM CAN’T BE HARMED WITH A CAR, WHAT ARE THEY GONNA DO ABOUT THAT TOO?? THAT SEEMS CONCERNING!!!!
Meanwhile, Henry parks near the hotel they were directed to by Avedon, and the trio look upon it in… concern. First of all, it doesn’t even look like a hotel, or look like it belongs in NYC. And the entire place is surrounded by a yellow mist… and while they could wait it out or try to somehow call Avedon and tell him to come out, it just feels like the longer they wait the worse it will get.
Really, it’s starting to feel that way for a lot of things.
But even though everything about this feels bad, they press on and enter the “hotel”. What should be the hotel lobby is abnormally empty, and when they start up the stairs… well, that’s not normal either, the stairs just keep going. Joey is flipping any rugs he finds though to make sure they don’t have stupid destabilization spells underneath them.
After a few rounds of strange rooms, weird hallways, some alien screeching outside the windows, and Henry noticing that NYC is not the city outside said windows, he stops everyone out of worry that they’re walking into a trap… and Joey agrees. But not that this hotel is specifically a trap.
All of New York is a trap.
It doesn’t matter where they go next, the longer they don’t solve this issue, the more of a trap everything will be.
They just gotta press on.
…
Aaaaand start yelling for Avedon because clearly they aren’t gonna be just walking up to his hotel room at this point.
Good news! Avedon replies! Bad news!! Only Henry can hear it for some reason!! And… Avedon can hear Joey but not Henry??
It’s all very confusing. They find Henry’s reading glasses on a table. Those were in his pocket how did they get there excuse me. All of this isn't fine actually.
But after a few rounds of Avedon Polo, they finally stumble across each other in a… garden. In the middle of a hotel. And of course, the first thing Avedon says is that they need to leave immediately. He didn’t know it was going to be like THIS, he just stepped out to get a coffee and suddenly the whole place is weird??? Well, now that they’re here, time to immediately leave because YEAH THAT WAS THE PLAN FROM THE START.
Going through another door leads out into a familiar courtyard, at least familiar to Joey. He had been here a few nights ago, while invading Y’s dream, and indeed, right where he’d expect, he finds the Y twins chatting amongst themselves. Marching up to them, Joey demands to know what they’re doing and what’s going on.
They respond by addressing him as royalty.
✧・゚: *Joey Drew, as Your Highness・゚: *✧
Normally, this would probably inflate Joey’s ego! Currently, it sinks like a stone into his stomach!! He does not want to be part of the play!!!
Unless…
Joey suddenly wonders, because it’s the same courtyard, if they are in a dreamscape of some sort… Does he appear different than himself… and that's why they're addressing him this way?
But no, he looks like Joey, and Henry looks like Henry, and Peter looks like Peter, and Avedon is still here… except Joey also notices some of their hands are starting to turn transparent…………. That's probably fine.
He still doesn’t want to be part of their play.
The Y twins try to get Joey to go somewhere with them, and he makes up a story why they need to not do that rn, so that the group of normal fading humans can attempt once again to leave this place.
Since it's all weird here, Joey tries his little will-what-he-wants-into-reality trick and… well it doesn't work. Instead, he finds a throne room?? and realizes that they aren’t just in Carcosa, they’re in the castle where the Yellow King’s play takes place. And Joey manages to follow his intuition from here to find some kind of portrait hallway, covered with familiar faces… all labeled as characters from the play. Not recognizing all of them, Henry starts drawing them so we have a record of it later.
But there's a few he doesn't have to draw.
One is Alan Leroy, the guy that they're becoming sure is the target of the Pallid Mask. Part of the royal family, apparently. He's a slender man, black hair slicked back, young looking, quite pretty … kinda looks like Joey…
Which makes more sense perhaps when the portrait of the eldest son in the royal family is none other than Joey himself. Guess this is why he was being addressed as royalty… but that means the Y twins are not quite in their right minds, and anything he finds them doing here is probably just play nonsense.
Also Denis is the youngest prince but who cares about that guy.
What they DO care about is the fact they’re getting more and more transparent, so the boys go to find Avedon, who is oh so helpfully knocking shit over and muttering in french, and Joey manages to get his door trick to actually work this time; he opens the door and there’s…
STAIRS!!
Everyone starts running down them, managing not to get turned around when they start making twisty turns, and get to the front door of this stupid castle in a hotel lobby.
They peek outside.
Sure enough, on the side of the building, there’s a shadow shaped suspiciously like nothing they can really identify, so it must be some sort of angel monster or something.
At this point, there’s really only one option they have: try sneaking to the car and hope it’s looking the other way, and if not, run!
Everyone agrees that this is a great plan.
And then they do that.
There’s a bit of fumbling in the middle, but the car was parked outside of the yellow mist for once, so the creature just fades out as soon as it leaves the mist to chase them.
Well! Okay then!! That problem is solved!! Let’s go deliver Avedon to Norman so that he can take responsibility for his mad man and then maybe stop hiding at home or something!
Henry drives off, and things seem fine for now…
Until Joey swivels around in the front seat to question Avedon, and out the back window, sees something flying after them, only visible whenever it passes through the mists…
FINALLY got these scribbles from last session of the Cthulhu game scanned in lmao, THINGS HAVE BEEN SO BUSY but cthulhu has been very exciting!!
While looking for some Alan Leroy guy to figure out why the Phantom is following(?) him(?), we asked around with (a) his book club friends and (b) the mob, as one does. Sammy managed to avoid seeing the yellow sign when he realised very quickly what Cool Obscure Book this book club pal might be describing (unlike Jack, a polite boy who does not RAPIDLY AVERT HIS EYES FROM HIS CONVERSATIONAL PARTNER), but did not manage to avoid being hustled off by the mob to talk to The Boss when Henry asked just a few too many questions. it went fine but Sammy was SO STRESSED, HES ALREADY BEEN KIDNAPPED BY GANGSTERS ONCE HE DOESNT WANT TO DO IT AGAIN
also hes still cute in this hat. you should wear hats more often sammy.
ANYWAY if you're here for Out of Context quotes from this session, I GOT EM RIGHT HERE UNDER THE CUT:
[Sammy is played by me, Joey is played by Boo (inkyvendingmachine), Henry is played by Maf (inkcryptid), Jack is played by Mochi (whatyouwantedmetosee) and Thren (haunted-hijinxer) is our GM!]
[Sammy] He will mention to Henry, something about "Oh boy, dreams are starting up again" kind of thing.
[Henry] Yyyyup.
[Henry] Don't get possessed again.
[Sammy]
[Sammy] i dON'T THINK SAMMY KNOWS WHAT TO DO WITH THAT!! The last time he got possessed was BY PROPHET, whom he still shares a body with!!
[Henry] Prophet doesn't count! Don't get possessed by anyone else.
[Sammy] .... I'LL DO MY BEST,
[Sammy] I just like the idea of Henry being like 'don't get possessed' and Sammy just LOOKS at him, like............ I'm already possessed, what are you talking about
[Sammy] Given how these things like to happen on auspicious days, I'm a little worried about New Years,
[Joey] That's exactly the spin he's going to put on it -- Some time off for New Years, and a bonus day off to recover from the celebrations!
[Jack] Gotta account for those, now that drinking's back!
[Henry] Oh good, I was really worried Joey would call Norman and get a "who are you?"
[Jack] Norman DOES do that, but just because he thinks it's funny.
[GM] That's possible, yeah,
[Sammy] Oh my gosh. I believe it, is the thing.
[GM] I do too, honestly... this might just be a thing that happens.
[GM] And the studio seems normal, and nobody got kidnapped in the night, not even Norman, and Henry's family is safe -- things are doing so good!
[Jack] Nobody that we're currently in contact with got kidnapped in the night!
[GM] That's true.
[Jack] I'm not ruling out Bertrum getting kidnapped.
[Jack] ...unrelated to the Carcosa nonsense, he just got kidnapped.
[GM] That's what he gets for hanging out with the mob.
[Jack] Sorry, I mean, "The Great Bertrum Piedmont." Have to use his full and official title.
[GM] That's how you get him un-kidnapped, he just breaks through a wall to correct you.
[Jack] *laughing* The Kool-Aid Bert................
[GM] The Great Kool-Aid Piedmont,
[Jack] Now that's fanart I don't want to see.
[GM] Welcome back! We've been talking about the Great Bertrum Piedmont Kool-Aid-ing through a wall to correct you about his name.
[Sammy] *startled wheezing* Okay, well it sounds like I've missed some really important developments!
[Jack] I think Jack would lean in the direction of like, they wanted to get in touch with him at the charity thing-- aaagh, that's technically not true. He's not the fast talk boy, he's not allowed to,
[Sammy] I mean, he CAN fast talk, Henry does it all the time!
[Jack] But does he succeed--
[Sammy] Henry's not the Fast Talk Boy but he keeps LYING anyway!!!
[Sammy] I feel like Jack is good at looking worried, and, caring about his fellow man,
[Jack] I don't think he has to TRY to look worried???
[Sammy] I don't think Sammy contains these qualities. Sammy looks like he's here to arrest you.
[GM] She's actually giving Sammy a concerned look,
[Sammy] Sammy is HERE FOR THE PROTECTION MONEY.
[Jack] Well, this was lovely! Time to leave, because Sammy's already... vibrating against the door trying to clip through it.
[Sammy] Sammy's IMMEDIATELY going to tell him about this clarinet with the missing E flat extension.
[Sammy] ....and then ALSO mention that he thinks maybe he's seen this guy before.
[Joey] Joey slightly fixes Henry's hair before they head in.
[Sammy] (That's a little bit gay, but alright,)
[Jack] (I think it's more than a little bit)
[Joey] LISTEN, listen, Joey recognises--
[Jack] Linda's out of town!
[Joey] --Joey recognises the neighbourhood,
[GM] The door gets opened pretty quickly, but the guy inside actually looks a little like he's suddenly out of his depth, because whatever he was expecting to happen is not what is happening.
[Sammy] That's a common reaction to Joey Drew.
[Joey] I feel like it's not going to be a fast talk roll, actually, to make this guy feel like this is NOT a dangerous ask? So I'm gonna go with persuade instead.
[GM] Are you going with the tack that you were concerned parties from the event?
[Joey] I think, concerned party, perhaps leaning towards the notion that they hit it off well at the party, and -- I'm just turning it into a fast talk,
[Joey] *trying again* I think Joey is leaning more into an idea that they are freshly met, but have similar interests? Or... possibly leaning into he's ...a friend of a friend and we're looking into it for that friend?
[Sammy] Joey trying NOT to lie is really funny. "Oh well obviously I'll just say -- oh, I guess that's not true; I'll just -- WELL, that's not technically true either,"
[Joey] ADMITTEDLY, if this does turn into a fast talk roll, using the same roll it's now a BETTER SUCCESS, so,
[Sammy] Just really funny how hard it is for Joey to just, HONESTLY REASSURE someone without inventing a whole narrative
[Joey] I'M GOOD AT COMING UP WITH STORIES!! I'm not good at... fact-checking them first...
[Joey] Please, if you hear from him, or get any more information, please reach out to us as soon as possible, because the sooner we can prevent this, the better off he'll be -- y'know, that whole thing!
[Joey] Do the most heartfelt, emotional connection he can... it's a little gay, but...
[Sammy] I fully believe in Joey's ability to extoll the virtues of this man he's never met.
[Sammy] We can just check with Norman, have him peek out the window and see if it looks weird,
[Joey] "Hey Norman, is your house in the right location?"
[Jack] "Dunno why you called me outside just to tell me that you moved my house!"
[GM] Norman answers the door, and gives you guys a quizzical look.
[Henry, out of character] :D Hey, did your house move?
[Sammy, in-character] >:/ Did your house move?
[Sammy] Sammy will point out things Jack noticed as being different, as if he also noticed them.
[GM] He'll turn back to you, and just kind of observe in a blase sort of way that he's apparently moved.
[Jack] I love Norman,,,,
[Joey] I love Norman's 89% Sanity score that never gets hit, apparently!
[Jack] His sense of humour is actually an indefinite insanity.
[Sammy] A constant coping mechanism,
[Jack] Can't go insane when you already are!!
[Jack] Jack is, not happy about this,
[GM, as Norman] He wonders if you'd like to come in for a housewarming, then.
[Sammy] Sammy's going to just catch her up on, the guy we're looking for read the play,
[Sammy] Also, might be a guy that Sammy saw in New Orleans, and that might be why he knew the music??
[Sammy] ALSO, WEIRD THING with his clarinet, he doesn't have the E flat extension that you'd EXPECT HIM TO HAVE?
[GM] I think Susie knows enough that she would say that's weird if he's playing seriously.
[Jack] I was about to ask if this meant anything to these two--
[Joey] Norman is regaining sanity by watching Sammy rattle on about all this.
[GM] He's probably chiming in opinions, too, that are completely not based in any actual musical knowledge --
[Henry] Norman just like "He's missing the E extension? Next he's gonna lose the, the F Shortener!"
[GM] "What's the world coming to!"
[Sammy] Sammy's giving him the most unamused look, and this is all Norman wanted.
[GM] Yeah, yeah, this is how he keeps his sanity high.
[Sammy] Just annoy Sammy Lawrence. That's the secret.
[Jack] Good to make sure things aren't going weirder over here-- which, uhhh,
[Sammy] Which they are!!
[Sammy] That's smart, but that's also really spooky. Like okay, cool! The whole world has re-written this! Cool cool cool cool cool.
[GM] He doesn't seem PLEASED about it, but he seems about normal.
[Henry] He seems Norman about it.
[Jack] Yeah, Normal Polk.
[Jack] *cracking up* He shows up at work the next day and he's called "Normal Ponk." That's his name now.
[Jack] Reality's rewriting itself, wanna kiss about it?
[Henry] Ah, Jack's okay again.
[Jack] If this was Fowler, then WHO WAS PHONE????
[GM] Well, okay, first things first, does Joey have Peter's number memorised?
[Joey] HM.
[Joey] ...I feel like he wouldn't admit it, but yes.
[Joey] Joey says he's going to call Peter back in a minute. And hangs up.
[GM] You cut him off in the middle of some sort of response--
[Joey] Cool.
[Joey] He managed to break into a safe once by doing this!
[Henry] "Break into" is... a bit of a strong phrasing.
[GM] *mumbling* "Get locked inside of,"
[Joey] The main thing is, Do Not Go Alone, because if something happens to Peter... we have no way of tracking down the information that he has! We, we lose, all of his evidence!
[Jack] .....and that's the ONLY thing,
[Joey] Yup!
[Henry] We ALSO lose his, HIM,
[Joey] *mumbling* No, no that doesn't matter as much, as evidence,
[Joey] It's clearly just, the fact that they lose all the benefits of having a reporter with ghost powers on their side, and NOT Peter himself, that is the issue!
[Jack] iTS NOT LIKE HE CARES ABOUT YOU OR ANYTHING!!!
[Jack] *spongebob meme* You like Peter Sunstram, don't you, Joey?
[Joey] Both Henry and Sammy are the best able to get themselves out of a tough, fight-y situation,
[Sammy] We can both punch, and Henry has magical power if something supernatural happens...
[Joey] Also! Also, neither Joey nor Jack are there to be taken hostage and used against them!
[Sammy] ... I think you're actually right. I hate to admit it, but I think you're right.
[Jack] I can't wait for Jack to be kidnapped at the magic shop, you guys!
[Henry] I can't believe we're sending the two least talky boys off together to talk to the mob,
[Joey] LISTEN. Henry and Sammy can go to the restaurant! Henry likes food! There we go!
[GM] I can't believe Joey's just making sure Henry gets a nice meal after his shake-up earlier...
[Sammy] I dunno, maybe Peter should come with us, just in ghost form. Henry can see him, potentially,
[Jack] So Pete's body can... Not be where he left it when he gets back to it!
[Sammy] ....hm,
[Joey] *startled laughter*
[Sammy] ....okay, nevermind,...
[Jack] Just leave him in the car, what could go wrong! That's not disappeared MULITPLE TIMES!
[GM] Johnny Nero is of average height and build, with dark, slicked back hair, and a neatly trimmed moustache -- so not like any of the other people that you know!
[GM] Wears expensive tailored suits, though.
[Jack & Joey] *snickering* So, not like, any of the people you know--
[GM] It narrows it down a bit!!
[Sammy] Alright, alright; bargain bin Joy Drew, got it.
[GM] You guys do get an offer to have food, while you're waiting.
[Sammy] Yeah.... why not.....
[Henry] Henry will, not,,,
[Joey] *shocked* NO?????
[Joey] *absolutely flabbergasted* FOOD!!!!!
[Sammy] Gangsters don't usually poison you, they usually give you nice food and then they knock you out and throw you in the river.
[Henry] WELL HENRY DOESNT KNOW THAT!
[GM] He hasn't done speakeasies like Sammy has!!
[Sammy] I'm noticing that this guy actually looks really nervous, and isn't taking charge of the situation,
[GM] He DOES have something that's probably a firearm in his pocket.
[Sammy] Yeah, yeah, but,
[Jack] It's his emotional support firearm!
[Sammy] Actually... Sammy WILL ask him if he saw it.
[GM] Uh,
[Sammy] Because he was RIGHT THERE looking at him. And I feel like, once you've seen it, and it does the weird thing where it gets in your head, you're not going to be confused what somebody's talking about if they ask you if you saw the yellow sign. You're going to know what that means.
[GM]
[GM] Are you going to say the thing...?
[Sammy] Have You Seen The Yellow Sign?
[Henry] Henry is half-considering...
[Sammy] *manically excited* DO YOU WANT TO TAKE THE THORN OUT OF THIS LION'S PAW, HENRY???
[Henry] You haven't been able to think straight since, have you?
[GM] He kind of squints at you, because he's a gangster and he doesn't want to be like "D: YEAH, ITS BEEN REALLY ROUGH :("
[Joey] *laughs* Henry IMMEDIATELY knows this look, because Joey does this as well!
[Sammy] Push the roll!! Push push push!
[Henry] *nervous* I DON'T KNOW IF I WANT TO PUSH IT,,,
[Sammy] WE'RE ALREADY KIDNAPPED! WHAT ELSE CAN GO WRONG!
[Henry] We didn't get kidnapped, so it's you guys' turn!
[Joey] We have the kidnapping charm with us, also known as "Jack Fain"!
[Sammy] Oh I thought it was Peter Sunstram.
[Sammy]
[Sammy] DO THEY STACK?
[Jack] I can't wait for us to get to these spooky occult magic shops, and it's just like, "here's a bunch of overpriced tumbled gemstones and some incense!"
[GM] The first one you go to is kind of that style.
[Jack] Ideal! I hope they have a really tacky fake skull.
[Joey] Joey is judging the whole place.
[Joey] WAIT, wait, they took you from the bar to the restaurant, and then you got the heckin' sign out of Nero's head, and he's not even gonna offer you a ride back to the bar?!?
[Henry] I think what we got out of it is "not being kidnapped".
[GM] JOEY is the one with the history of talking kidnappers into giving him rides,
[Sammy] I do think it would be classier if he gave us a ride. I'm with Boo on this, it would be a classy gangster move.
[Sammy] With that guy they kidnapped to do music for whoever's birthday party, they dropped him back off later, but, you know, it's fine,
[Joey] Show your heckin' appreciation! *exasperated* THIS IS HOW WE CAN TELL HE'S AVERAGE!!
[GM] Uh, lemme roll a quick like............. etiquette roll,
[Sammy] Gangster Classiness,
[GM] *rolls terribly* Yeah, I think he's frazzled enough -- this is gonna reflect poorly on him later.
[Joey] Wow.
[Jack] Normal success for Jack! How many terrible tacky skulls do I see?
[GM] Just SO many.
[Sammy] This place won't help you, buddy.
[Jack] I dunno, if you buy enough tacky skulls, maybe the guy won't wanna get near you.
[Henry] Just throw tacky skulls at him!
[Jack] A tacky skull a day keeps the pallid mask away!!
[GM] A more discerning occult collection than the other one.
[Jack] The kind of place that has the more occult things like, in a locked cabinet instead of in a heap on the counter.
[Sammy] In the bargain bin,
[Jack] "Box of assorted random magic junk"? Yeah, I wanna rummage my hand in that, I'm not gonna get five curses,
[Jack] *laughs* I'm not even AT the other place anymore and I'm still dunking on it!
[Sammy] Jack's just saying these things to Joey to like, keep his spirits up.
[Joey] It would be working,
[Sammy] I am curious if the restaurant is at the same address that we remember it being on.
[GM] It is the same address! The name is different.
[Jack] What's the new name?
[GM] Lombardi's! It was Leon's.
[Henry] ... some dude got his whole name changed,
[Jack] Oh man, when do they do that to me, I want a legal name change!
[Jack] Bringing the Yellow King into the world to get a free transition,
[Sammy] No! Don't do it! He won't transition you into a human, it'll be..... something else,
[Henry] We're gonna run over the Pallid Mask. Vroom vroom motherfucker.
[GM] You do bump into something that is unyielding.
[Jack] Oh no, Jack's car!
[Jack] ... and also, whatever he hit, I guess!
[Joey] Joey is immediately flipping around to grab his cane; if the guy tries to get in the car, he's going to bash him in the face! and say GET OUT!!
[Sammy] Well, it worked really well for Nero, so
[Henry] The guy just got hit by a car and didn't move! I don't think the cane's gonna do much!
[Jack] Especially not with Joey's weak noodle arms!
[Joey] Yeah but he's upset!! That this guy is trying to get in the car! He was not invited in!
[GM] ...make a CON roll.
[Joey]
[Joey] oKEY DOKEY,,,
[Sammy] Peter now is NOT the time to astral project
[GM] Luckily he doesn't have that insanity currently, or he'd already be gone!
[Jack] The car stops and Pete's ghost just flies through the windshield,
[Jack] I'm losing my mind...
[GM] You are! 1d6 of it!
[GM] This is kind of wild magic zone, so you get some creative license.
[Joey] Hmm. Hmm! Hmmmmmm...
[Sammy] Oh no, you've given Joey Drew creative license,
[Joey] But when I picked out Jack's car, it's the first car that has full safety glass in it!!
[Jack]
[Jack] SO EVEN MORE EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE!!!
also i see that i've gotten some really cool asks recently. apologies about not answering them yet, i've been extremely busy with school work. BUT I WILL ANSWER THEM I PROMISE
Who is this guy and why is he following us? Why are we following him?? Why are we interreacting with mobs again??? How does this keep happening to us?????
IT IS THE NEXT MORNING. EVERYONE WAKES UP AND NOBODY (who slept over at JDS) IS MISSING, OR DEAD.
THAT’S GREAT.
Bendy even slept on top of Jack during their slumber party, trying to give the same comfort as an Beans might give. It might’ve been weird otherwise, but after all the hectic nonsense going on and not being able to feel safe going home, in this case it was welcome.
Joey slept on his research notes.
But it is a work day (at least it’s friday,,,) so the cots are shuffled away before people start coming in and questioning the group about the spontaneous night in. And foreseeing this might be a future issue if stuff goes haywire and they have to hide out at JDS more, Joey takes the holiday opportunity to get everyone out of the office for a while. Enjoy New Years Eve off, go party! Also New Years, to recover from the party. And also… the day AFTER New Years, to do all the things you meant to do on New Years but you were recovering from the party!! Look how nice Joey Drew is, giving so many thoughtful days off. Nobody come back until Thursday or else.
While everyone else is getting some work done, Joey checks in on Norman who didn’t even call in. He seems fine, but he’s still adamant about staying at home. Okay you do you.
(Joey sends Susie to hang out with Norman, as his inside woman and also because the Norman vs. Susie perception of the world will be nice when more things just. C h a n g e.)
The team has two big leads for trying to find Alan Leroy: Chandler Kreel and Amanda Cornish. Both of them are apparently good friends with him, and with addresses in hand, they split up to try and track down the danged clarinetist that they probably need to get to.
Jack and Sammy drive downtown to a bunch of law offices with apartments above, searching for Amanda. They’re able to get to her door pretty easily, but Amanda isn’t the one who answers. Her sister does! Luckily Jack’s there to run introductions because otherwise Sam’s scowling face probably would have just been turned away at that point. Sitting in the waiting room, Amanda soon joins them and admits that the last time she saw Alan was at a christmas party they went to… but seems to be kind of standoffish about any other information.
After some more charming by Jack, it’s revealed that she thinks he might be in trouble with the mob, and uh, Sammy… looking the way he does……. Maybe made her think they were the mob?? But with confirmation that, no, they super aren’t the mob and in fact are trying to find Alan before he possibly gets in trouble with a mob or two, she’s a bit more relaxed. Something weird is happening, because Alan really doesn’t seem like the type to be in trouble with the mob. And the last weird thing she remembers happening with Alan was… well, he got freaked out over some book she gave him for the holidays!
What’s so scary about a book? It was a pretty interesting read, here she’ll go grab it for ya!!!
Sammy is looking away Sammy is looking away Sammy refuses to look in any direction near Amanda as she, indeed, brings out a little black book with the Yellow Sign on it.
Jack immediately feels it wiggle into his head. But at least he’s able to wrap up the conversation with her in a… semi-normal manner? While Sammy’s eyes, darting anywhere else, find a photo on the mantelpiece that features Alan Leroy and friends, hanging out at a party scrawled with the note: Skinner Place, May, 1934… and Sammy is CERTAIN he recognises the man.
Oddly, his clarinet in the photo is missing one of the extensions he'd expect for a professional player...…….
Joey and Henry take the brown Mercedes to check out Chandler Kreel, who luckily lives in a nice part of the city that feels like a Mercedes might be somewhat… less… easily noticeable.
He answers the door but seems extremely nervous, like Amanda was. Leroy is great! So good at clarinet you wouldn’t even know he was down a finger!! Also totally a swell guy who shouldn’t be in any trouble so why are you heeerree??
Through Joey’s uh, storytelling skills, and Henry's good calming daditude, they get the idea he’s a loyal friend who wants to make sure he’s helping his buddy and not handing over information to the mob or any other parties that might be after Alan… Which means, he probably has information on where Alan is. Since it’d be suspicious to just plain ask, Joey goes the heartfelt “please reach out to us we’re here to help,” direction and hands off contact information.
While returning to the car, Henry and Joey find someone oogling over it… and this time it’s not some girl trying to declare herself Henry’s lifelong love, but the pale-faced man in a black suit that’s been seen everywhere recently. Their conversation is short, as the man mentions looking for a “wandering player” that needs to be returned to his place, and he walks off after some vague threats about what happens if you are in his way. Or if you lie to him, don’t do that either.
His mask-like face doesn’t move while communicating any of this.
Henry tells Joey once they’re alone that he thinks that guy is Fowler. He has the same nervous fidget Fowler used to…
Jack and Sammy go to stop by Norman’s on the way back, and find that… his place is apparently a block down from where it used to be!!
GREAT!!!!
When he answers the door and is immediately and frantically questioned about this, he takes a look around and confirms, shrugging and simply stating “it seems like I’ve moved.”
He invites them in for a housewarming party.
Susie and Norman have been playing cards. There’s no updates on Avadon. Jack and Sammy update them about the few tidbits of information they’ve found, and Norman finds a piece of junk mail to hand off to Jack before they head out. Since… the address on there seems to have changed too, so if Norman ends up moving again, well… they’ll know where he is!
The four of them meet back up at JDS to exchange information about Alan Leroy, and also eject the yellow sign from Jack’s head asap. Sammy's still worked up about this clarinetist's missing E flat extension, but Joey dismisses this as old news -- obviously; he's missing a finger. Keep up, Sammy. Peter has kind of also met back up with them, leaving a message on Joey’s phone talking about sightings of the masked man going through some magic shops in the city. And the fact that despite all his digging, he really can’t find anything about where this Leroy guy came from…
Joey tries to call Peter back by memory and it doesn’t work. We’re not going to talk about the fact that Joey has Peter’s number memorized. Pulling out his phone book, indeed, Peter’s number on paper has changed and that one DOES work.
Before they get much of a conversation going at all, Joey hangs up on Peter to try something. Instead of dialing a number in, or looking one up… he just wills himself to dial a number in to call Alan Leroy.
It kiiiindaaa works.
Joey manages to call Alan Leroy’s phone, but the same servant picks up and insists that Alan hasn’t returned home. Joey hangs up on him.
Peter gets a call back. Okay so there’s those Magic Shops he wants to check out, and also he has a lead on the gangster guy who shot the gun during the charity event. To keep Peter from doing nonsense alone and probably being abducted to Carcosa, Jack and Joey decide to go with him to investigate magic shops, while Sammy and Henry uneasily go to the bar to find info on the gangster guy, once Sammy is reassured that this won’t be like last time and all he has to do is eavesdrop. This surely will only go well.
At the bar, Henry casually brings up the charity dinner shooting while trying to fish for information, and maybe he talks a little too much, because suddenly all eyes are on him. What! Sammy wasn’t doing any talking so Henry was just trying to… do….what Joey would do? Henry trying to do what Joey would do has never gone wrong before…
Sammy and Henry are in a mob car, only kind of against their will. They are escorted to a restaurant, where they meet the extremely average looking Italian mob boss, Johnny Nero, who wants to know what they know about this pale masked man. At first it seems like they’ve made another great terrible get-yourselves-kidnapped-by-a-mob mistake, but the boss seems surprisingly rattled, and after some grilling from Sammy, Nero admits that… he’s seen some stuff that shouldn’t be…
… and Sammy hits the nail on the head when he asks, have you seen the y͟el͜l͘ow sig̵n?
Henry steps in and decides to offer to help him… to get him on our side, and understand that we are not a threat to him, we’re simply trying to remove the same thing from the city. After some pressure, Nero is convinced, and goes through the extremely normal process of Henry writing eldritch symbols with his own blood to remove the sign from him. After the nightmare has been yeeted from his brain, Nero turns out to be a wee bit nicer: he gives us all the info he has, but insists that if we find whatever the pallid mask guy is looking for, to give it to him so he can use it to get the guy gone.
And then he kicks them out without even offering them a ride back to their car at the bar.
Wrow.
What an extremely average super not classy even mob boss.
That’s gonna get you a terrible review on yellowp my dude.
Meanwhile, on the other side of town, it’s time for
✧・゚: *✧・゚:*SHOPPING✧・゚: *✧・゚:*~~!!
The first store is called Cool Jewel Skull. It has cool jewels and skulls. Surely that’s exactly what it says in the book, because it’s extremely not a legit shop, and Jack spends the entire walk to the next shop dunking on it to keep Joey's spirits up. They did find out that not just the Phantom but Leroy had been through it though!
The next stop is an apothecary, and it does seem a lot more actually occult stuff. The guy recognizes a photo of Leroy and confirms he came through looking for protective charms, but when he went to buy one, he dropped it upon touching it and immediately left?? Then the Pallid Mask guy came through later… Not much info on him, except that he was creepy, but we already knew that. The interesting thing is though, the charm that Leroy dropped? It has the same symbol on it that Henry uses to expel the yellow sign from people’s heads. So… weird that he didn’t take it with him…. And seemed allergic to it as well.
The three leave and try to go to the last shop on the list… but the address is missing from the paper now. Like… completely gone. Joey gets the great idea to try his “I'm going to will myself there” trick and closes his eyes, imagining a route to this store he’d never been to before, and giving Jack directions to drive there. Suddenly Jack slams on the brakes and manages to keep from completely smashing into… a man in a suit… and a pale mask…. There’s definitely a dent in the bumper now though, because Jack wasn’t that quick, and apparently a moving car is not more solid than this thing is.
Joey immediately starts cursing him out, but he insists that Joey called him?? before going around to the side of the car and opening the back seat door… where Peter is sitting. Not having this AT ALL, Joey tries to beat him out of the car with his cane, only to be thrown back against the dashboard.
With Jack frozen in terror and Peter having an oddly difficult time moving to even the other side of the car away from this pale jerk, Joey immediately decides he cAN AND WILL RIP THIS ASSHOLE OUT OF EXISTENCE.
And… somehow, it works.
It sure tears something into him alright, and manages to boot him out of the car, giving enough time for Joey to demand Jack step on it. And Jack, panic stricken, somehow manages to follow the command and at least not run into anything else as they drive off into the night – But just as he’s hit the gas pedal, he does feel the cold of both glass shards and … something else, as he gets touched by a hand smashing through the window in the last second.
Luckily Jack bought the first car on the market in the US that had safety glass so he’s not going to be fucked up much from this in the physical department, except for his wallet maybe.
Mentally though? Memories flood in…
memories of a time he visited a dream with his eyes closed, and almost had his head removed.
After they’re at a safe distance, a shaken Peter manages to pull the door closed.
[BatIM Cthulhu AU] A couple of doodles from session two, which UNSETTLED SAMMY A LOT ACTUALLY...
There have been small changes, throughout New York -- doors opening on the wrong side of the street, houses ending up just a block away from where you remembered them -- but the only people who can even tell seem to be those who remember Carcosa. Joey, Sammy, Henry, Jack, Peter, and Norman all experienced the strange shifting realm when a Mardi Gras party attempted to bring dread Carcosa to New Orleans, but Susie wasn't there. She can't see the changes we see, and the entire rest of the city agrees with her. That door was always there? The car was always that colour. That's where I remember the address being before, and there's no record it was ever different.
She trusts what the boys are reporting must be true, that maybe there are changes she can't see or remember, and both she and Sammy are terrified. These are only little things, but as more and more of the city slips into the world of the King in Yellow, what else might be rewritten...?
Anyway EVERYONE'S HAVING A GREAT TIME. If you're here for Out Of Context Quotes from our session, I have some of those too, here, under the cut!!
[Sammy is played by me, Joey is played by Boo (inkyvendingmachine), Henry is played by Maf (inkcryptid), Jack is played by Mochi (whatyouwantedmetosee) and Thren (haunted-hijinxer) is our GM!]
[Jack] I love how detective Pete is for a guy who is NOT a detective.
[Sammy] He just got assigned that by Joey Drew and now it's true.
[Joey] Exactly! That's how it works.
[Sammy] The idea of JDS having its own employed detective is really funny to me. "Why do you need that? You're an animation studio." "Well, you know, things come up,"
[GM] Everybody went home I believe, except Joey went to the Studio, which is like home,
[Sammy] Do we have any plan, other than just go in to work,
[Jack] I though you were gonna say "other than go insane"...
[Joey] If Prophet's not the one going for the ink, then why is Sammy going for it?! Do they have a SECOND prophet situation???
[Jack] PROPHET...... TWO!!!
[Henry] Prophet 2: Electric Boogaloo
[Sammy] *tiredly* We don't need any more Prophets..... We don't need any more Sammys..... we have enough.....
[Jack] You just need to sip some ink and tell them it's the wrong number. Like, you've got the wrong guy.
[Henry] New stone, who dis?
[Sammy] It was the false king who called through the ink, not our Lord!
[Joey] Interesting...
[Joey] Joey's going to ask Bendy if he can... feel this? Is he getting calls? *dad voice* Is someone calling you? Don't put your number on the internet!
[GM] Bendy says he wasn't made to be a receiver the same way Sammy was.
[Jack] So technically, it's "New Sam, who dis"!
[Joey] Okay, Joey's going to note this all down in his... Notebook Of Nonsense That Plagues Them,
[GM] I'm choosing to believe that whenever Norman called in, he gave some sort of outlandish excuse, and whoever answered the phone didn't... write it down...
[Sammy] Like the heckin', grian excuses--
[Joey] "I'm cutting my grass, with scissors"
[Jack] Yeah!! He's cutting his grass! With scissors! In winter!!!
[Sammy] And then Sammy's like "Do we know why he called out?" and the receptionist is just like "No We Have NO Idea"
[Jack] With the most tired sigh. Second only to Grant.
[GM] Fun fact, Norman would answer the phone.
[Sammy] Norman actually was just like, "ohhhhhhh i know THIS is some supernatural bullshit happening, I'm gonna stay home"
[Joey] Joey's going to ask Estelle if he looked like-- and give a vague description of Avedon.
[GM] ..............................
[GM] She is SO impressed that you knew this.
[Joey] *delighted cackling*
[Jack] I love how cute Joey is about this kid. Just like... the cool Bendy Uncle! He's not related at all, but,
[Joey] I feel like this is kind of how Joey just gets around kids? Maybe Joey does really want kids, just, y'know, doesn't know how to do it when gay?
[Sammy] Obviously that won't happen, so--
[Joey] Yeah,
[Sammy] --so then you START AN ANIMATION STUDIO, that's the only other option!
[GM] Yeah, then all kids are your kids!
[GM] Alright, you've made many phone calls.
[Joey] Yeah,
[GM] And you only rudely hung up on one of them!
[Sammy] Sammy can surely track that down; he's used to digging up musicians.
[Jack] Jack's there to assist with the Talking to People in a way that makes them want to cooperate with you, and not run in fear!
[GM, speaking for Peter] *lists all of the information Peter's dug up* And that's about what he managed to get, today!
[Joey] And nothing weird has been happening... to him?
[GM] WELL, OKAY. ABOUT THAT,
[Peter] Could you describe again, the strange person who was at the party? What was that guy like?
[Joey] *thinking very hard* Which... strange person...? I mean... Denis was there?
[Norman] Try not to fall in a swamp this time.
[Joey] I'll let you know if I find one!
[Sammy] There's fewer of those in New York, so, I think we're good.
[Jack] I mean, you never know,,
[Sammy] ...yeah, that's true.....
[Joey] HEY, Joey will let him know if he finds one!!!
[Sammy] If LAKE PONCHARTRAIN opens up in the MIDDLE OF NEW YORK CITY, that will certainly be something to let all of our friends know!
[GM] Make a social-type checks to have a word with them beforehand!
[Sammy] I don't know, if I should do that,,,
[GM] SAMMY can make an Appearance check!
[Sammy] *laughing* LETS SEE IF IM HANDSOME ENOUGH to get let in!
[GM] Everybody's like "You guys!" You're greeted with nostalgia, and eagerness! and people are trying to small talk you, I'm guessing Sammy's not going for that.
[Sammy] I mean, you can try to small talk.... AT him...
[Sammy] He doesn't... y'know... it's like playing a game of catch where you throw the ball to somebody, and they just hold the ball.
[Sammy] Like.... okay!
[GM] I did the thing!
[Sammy] Cool, catch successful.
[Jack] No give, only throw!
[Sammy] Look, I was trying to drink ink this morning, so I feel like this is a step up.
[Sammy] Sammy will enjoy it! We should do this more often!
[Sammy] "We should do this more often" says man who will always be too busy to do this more often,
[GM] They're impressed that, at a job where there was a gunshot right in front of the stage, the thing you want to ask about is where they sourced their music.
[Sammy] I LOVE that Sammy's reputation is such that this makes perfect sense to them.
[GM] His name is Alan Leroy.
[Sammy] Okay, Leroy works, because then I'll remember it, because of Leroy Jenkins.
[GM] This is what's been going through my head the entire time, too...
[GM] They say he's a crazy-talented musician who blew into town a year or two ago? He's really nice and easy to get along with, and when he really gets going he can make sounds come out of his instrument like you've never heard!
[Sammy] These... are all.. compliments that would be really impressive except that they can all be interpreted in really concerning ways.......
[GM] If Jack wants to look harder, he can..........
[Jack] I'm doing it, Jack can make little a bad decision! He hasn't made any yet this season!!
[Jack] *rolls* That's an extreme success. How much sanity do I lose!!
[Henry] We're ghost hunters. The, the pale guy is a ghost, we're goin' after him. Ghost hunters.
[Henry] ...This is why you don't let Henry lead the conversation!!
[Jack] It's occurring to me that we don't know if this guy is alive???
[Joey] YUP! This is a good time to find out!
[Henry] Fun!
[GM] When have you EVER gone up to somebody's house and found them dead inside?
[Jack] Jack hasn't yet...
[Henry] The very first scenario!
[Sammy] Yeah it was a pretty bad situation as I recall, we were briefly accused of being involved!
[Jack] Maybe you guys. Jack's different, though.
[Joey] We wanted to make sure he was doing alright. .....does that need a Fast Talk roll?
[GM] Yeah, I was about to say--
[Joey] *rolls* *STARTS CACKLING*
[GM] What did you do, do you roll a three again?
[Joey] I DID ROLL A THREE! :D THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I ROLLED!
[GM] I thought it was the Three Laugh!
[Henry] Henry is tired. Henry rolled a 93.
[GM] Well he's out late, you know, he's a family man! He has normal hours, he hasn't been staying up late, living at the studio for the last few years!
[Henry] He's regretting not accepting Joey's offer to just go home.
[Joey] *muttering* See, Joey knows best!
[GM] Okay, so you guys notice, right off, that the car isn't there.
[Sammy] UM. HM.
[Jack] Which car did we take again?
[Joey] The Mercedes...
[Jack] *relieved* Okay good.
[Jack] .... I MEAN, NOT GOOD, BUT...
[Joey] No, no I think it's OUR car... it's just... more yellow now...
[Jack] I don't like that that means it's getting yellower...
[Joey] ...........................So when do we take the sanity hit?
[GM] Yeah, that would be now!
[GM] The woman says she's looking forward to when he has his own ship, and they can sail away together!
[Henry]
[Henry] ...I'm married,...
[Joey] Joey has his face pressed to the window-- no, he probably has the window down, it doesn't matter how cold it is -- and... CAN the window go down? Hold on.
[Joey] *sounds of typing* "Car... door... window... down... history... when."
[Henry] Okay, these dice are BANNED. I rolled a 90!
[Jack] What if you subtly replace the dice...?
[Sammy] With slighty yellower dice!
[Joey] OKAY! There ARE rolling windows, so Joey does have the window rolled down, and he's intensely watching the colour of the car.
[Joey] AND ALSO, he's STILL sitting in the middle seat, he's just going to lean over someone to do this.
[Sammy] Ah. It's probably me.
[Jack] No, no, Pete and Jack can get kidnapped later and take some massive sanity damage together. ✨Cute date ideas!✨
[Joey] Joey's going to inform Norman that they're going to come over, they need additional eyes on something,
[GM] Well, he's good at keeping eyes on things!
[Joey] So they'll be over soon.
[Sammy] I like how Norman gets a heads up, but with Peter we just show up at his apartment.
[Joey] Exactly!
[Jack] That's because Joey's kissed Pete. When Joey and Norman kiss then that's -- not good for Sammy, probably.
[GM] At least Pete and Sammy are neutral. Non-reactive.
[Sammy] Norman and Sammy are "it's complicated" on Facebook.
[Sammy] Okay, we gotta go get Linda, so Susie's not alone,
[Jack] We're just playing "how many NPCs can we force Thren to play at once!" How many can we shove in the back of this car.
[Jack] Jack's gonna get home and find out his cats are different colours,
[Sammy] Oh NO,
[Jack] Comes back and Beans is a tortie now.
[Sammy] Or Beans is just an orange cat,
[Jack] Oh no! Her braincells!
[GM] She needs those! She has all of them!!
[Joey] Depending on who's the affected party, Susie or them, it is actually useful to have a second, like,
[Sammy] Someone to compare with? Yeah.
[Henry] We don't know WHO the control group is, but ONE of us is the control group!
[Joey] As trusted as Norman is, he isn't one of Joey's... white-knuckle-clutched-keepsakes of a person,
[Sammy] *sarcastic* Okay, everyone ready to go to sleep? That's not a scary prospect right now, right? That's something that we're all really confident about doing? Cool, that's great.
[Henry] Yeah, yeah, that's definitely not gonna, it's gonna go great...!
[GM] Nobody's even cut their hand on a slick stone! It's fine!
[Henry] NO ONE BETTER CUT THEIR HAND ON A SLICK STONE! We got enough problems!!
[Joey] (Looking at you, Prophet!)
[Henry] Is Joey,,, sharing this plan with anyone?
[Joey] ouo Has anyone asked him?
[Joey] Let's send Henry then!
[Henry] Alright. Send Henry to Carcosa!
[Sammy] *exasperated* yeah that's fine....
[Joey] It's not FULLY sending him there! It's just making a connection.
[Joey] A little bridge!
[Sammy] Uggghhhh... Sammy doesn't think we need any bridges to Carcosa.
[Sammy] We've got enough Carcosa.
[Sammy] Put some back.
[Sammy] This is what happens When You Give a Joey a Dream Spell.
[Sammy] We can't actually guarantee that New York isn't going to sink. That's not out of the question.
[Jack] Is the Joey Drew specialty NOT "promising things that aren't necessarily things you can promise??"
[Henry] Actually, before Henry leaves he's going to give Joey a hug.
[Joey] He doesn't get to leave.
[Henry] Oh.
[Joey] But Joey will take the hug!
[Henry] You know this man gives good hugs. You're getting a good Henry hug.
[Jack] Gonna crunch all of Joey's terrible, very bad bones.
[Henry] He's gonnna try not to crunch all of Joey's terrible bones!
[Henry] But, I dunno.
[Henry] Roll for damage.
[GM] The lurker knows this is serious, but he's also excited, because he has heard what a slumber party is from Henry's kids.
[GM] Now it is Friday, the 28th of December.
[Sammy] Okay. Cool. Let's all make an effort to not ring in the New Year in Carcosa. That's MY New Year's Resolution: Don't Be In Carcosa.
