OOC; welcome to my worldbuilding blog! you may recognize this setting for being the canon origin of my roleplay characters @hawksblooded and @ofaarein. in the interest of keeping those centered on the characters themselves, i've made this blog to keep more general world information, as well as other tales and stories from the setting confined and easier to search for. you don't have to follow this blog to write with the characters from Orion, but it can give interesting insights on their circumstances, and the stories that precede their own.

Unseelie is the name given to those fey creatures which strayed or were ousted from their respective court. The creatures' stay in the mortal world leads them, besides the loss of their fey powers, to develop traits found loathsome by their kind: signs of age, hair, sexual characteristics, and uncomely features being most obvious. The most common unseelie phenotype — that of the small, wrinkled humanoid, with coarse hair and large ears and nose — is often called a goblin.

The judgement is absolute: there is no returning to the Realm once one has been banished, not even in passing. One must assume the offense that led to such severe punishment may be as grave as it may be meaningless, for fickle are the masters of the fey. The Ertrig, for example, speak of the sirens as being deserving of their corruption, guilty of trying to usurp their sorceress-king, but there are also many tales of romances blooming between men and fair folk ending in the latter being turned into fearsome hags for the transgression. However unfair the cause of their exile, it is natural that many unseelie are bitter or even violent towards mortals and their fellow fey alike, and though the greater of their abilities have been stripped from them, they remain cunning and tricksome by nature; one should strive to avoid them at all costs, and engage them with extreme caution should that prove impossible.

But hatred is not the domain of all unseelie, as there are some who have made peace with their unfortunate fates. The Korrigan are such a people, gray-skinned goblinoids banished from the fey Realm after producing an unsatisfactory likeness of the Under-King. They have been forbidden from digging the earth for themselves, and are often found sharing the burrows of beasts or the Dwerrow-men of the plains. Besides their powers of shapeshifting and enchantment, they have also lost all colour in their skin, hair and eyes, and even their ability to perceive it, though this has not hindered these creative spirits in the slightest, and they are wont to give out fanciful trinkets and charms of their own making to travelers of all kinds, which most are too superstitious to refuse.
