[back for real this time, selectively, and soon to be with a Mass Effect verse. stay tuned, reach out to me if you wanna play.]
[I think I want to be active here again, but would people be okay with me adding a Mass Effect verse?]
The Albatross About my neck was hung.

She woke to a sense of loss deeper than any she had known before. Her sheets were soaked in sweet, though a sweet cloth had been laid on her brow. She stretched out first one leg, then the other, then the fingers on one hand and then... nothing. She could feel the fingers, but they weren’t there.
Maiwe’s eyes opened, and she looked down at the stump of what had once been her arm. Her breathing grew faster and faster, eyes wider. No magic was flaring through her veins, no anchor paining her.. but there was still pain.
“Where is it?” The naked panic in her voice disgusted her, even as she couldn’t stop it. “Where’s the rest of me?”
[[Please hit me up for a post Trespasser thread? Like immediately after. I’d be really interested in something. Thanks. <3]]
[[I’m making a concentrated effort to be more active, so here’s a thing I wrote as I try and at least show you guys that I still write. Trespasser spoilers ahoy!]]
Even now, years later, Kirkwall stank of iron and death.
“You know, kid, all this could be yours, if you ever get tired of that saving the world stuff.” Inside Varric’s Hightown mansion, the air smelled like honey and the polish he used to keep Bianca gleaming.
It would be so easy to be angry at yet another who didn’t support her, but Maiwe fought a grin. Could Varric really see her sitting on a mound of cushions all day, writing her memoirs?
“And let it all end? Let Solas achieve whatever it is he wants?”
“The world’s had a good run, and there are always more heroes. It doesn’t have to be you.” There was hurt in his eyes, a stiffness to his posture even as he tried to lean back in his chair. His hand gripped the tankard too tightly, so that the edges of his fingers turned white.
“I’m sorry that I couldn’t save Hawke.”
“She went out like she wanted, saving our asses one last time.” Varric raised his cup in a toast, and Maiwe followed suit. The beer slid heavy down her throat, sat uneasily in her stomach.
She couldn’t meet his eyes; there was too much there, too much mingled sadness and hope that she would not travel down that same path. “I have to do this. If I just stopped, what would I have to live for?”
“You could settle down, do all that elf-y shit in the forest. It wouldn’t be a bad life.”
“Can you see me settling?” Maiwe raised a single eyebrow, and Varric laughed in concession taking another drink. The light from the hearth cast long shadows across both their faces.
“How are you feeling?” The mood changed, any rapport they had established in those moments of shared misery broken. Maiwe felt her spine straighten, her lungs grow tight at the question. She was so tired of answering it, so tired of the looks of pity she still received even now, even after she proved that she could defeat Corypheus and keep her own failing body in check. Or maybe it was the lack of a lower arm, an empty space that everyone stared at until they could no longer, disgust and sympathy reflected in a curl of the lip, in a widening of the eyes.
“Fine. Same as always.” Her words were clipped, precise.
“Don’t act like that. How long have we known each other, Sailor? You think I would ask if I didn’t care?” The use of her nickname softened Maiwe just enough.
“It hurts. It all hurts. I feel the fingers that aren’t there. I feel every exhalation, and I worry that I don’t have many left, that I won’t stop Solas before my own body fails me.” It came out in a rush, words she could not or would not say to others.
Varric stood, pushing his chair back, and Maiwe stood in kind. When he opened his arms, she leaned into the hug gratefully, their postures collectively mirroring that day so long ago now when Varric had lost his closest friend. Both closed their eyes, and Maiwe felt the fire at her back. For a single moment, she was warm.
Over my time here, I’ve seen lots of these posts float about in the ether. As a way to make a more cohesive fandom, I think it’s time to try to approach this and commit again. I will be making a sideblog with a comprehensive masterlist of all characters in Dragon Age roleplay. Anyone, of course, can participate. When I have made the blog, I will try to update entries as thoroughly as I can. Please be patient and realize sometimes in the time it takes me to do things, new stars have formed.
Reblog to be added.
( Do not like this post, please. It will simply be confusing! )
[[Like this for a snowy starter, perhaps?]]
[[I’M STILL ALIVE. my health hasn’t been great and my work life has been a bit cray. But I’m going to attempt to start up some new stuff. If you’re still interested in continuing our prior thread, please hit me up or like this, or if you’re interested in something new.]]
[[I’m so sorry for the complete radio silence. My free lancing life hasn’t quite taken off the ground yet, but it’s certainly running that way, and I’ve been burnt out with the sheer amount of work-related writing I’ve been doing lately. I’m going to try and get to replies this weekend. I miss you all, and playing games with you. <3 My Skype is always available to mutuals!]]
[[Consider: Maiwe sweeping into the Harvestmere activities dressed as a halla, head adorned with real horns, countless enchanted lights and flowers dangling and interwoven into her hair. It’s worn loose for once, its color golden rich against her pale skin and the white dress that Josephine strong armed her into wearing. She’s unaccustomed to the garment- it is at once too flowy and too long- but it is what so many picture the Dalish as wearing.
Maiwe dresses as a halla not because she particularly identifies with them, but because it makes a powerful political statement. The Inquisitor is Dalish, and she is not content to hide her heritage- she wears it as proudly as the vallaslin on her face. The halla is one of the few animals that can be said to be uniquely elven, as yet untainted by human association.
Her head should be bowed under the weight, but she holds her neck so straight and so carefully, and her eyes are challenging. She is no longer content to hide and hear the whispers about their untamed, heathen Herald. She has nothing to do with Andraste- today she wears her Dalish pride so openly, and lets them all see that she will forge her own path, and not follow those they have lay down before her.]]
