This is just my blog about my journey as a writer and exploration into the world of literature. I have always wanted to write my own book, so I hope to post some of my own work here one day. The first time you see it, it can hit you really hard, especially since Sherlock is on a total roll and John delivers the line “please God, let me live” in a way where you can be forgiven for not being sure if it’s serious or snark. It apparently has the same effect on Sherlock, as well.

We never do get any details on how Captain John Watson of the Fifth Northumberland Fusiliers was wounded in action. But from this exchange alone, it’s clear the situation was extremely serious. He was badly wounded, nearly died, and developed PTSD- Sherlock had himself earlier pointed out that the original circumstances of John’s injury must have been ‘traumatic’, and he meant emotionally traumatic, not just violent and painful. The blunt earnestness of John’s response even trips up Sherlock for a second or two, and he’s just been ranting and raving about not understanding why a woman would care about her stillborn baby after fourteen years. This also works as a tearjerker in hindsight if you recall ‘Please God, let me live’ whenever John is genuinely in physical danger elsewhere in the series.

Pretty much everyone in the room agrees that in your last moments, you would think about the people you love the most. John apparently had no one to think about when he was close to dying. He really must have been lonely even before he returned from Afghanistan.

I also love how in this moment Sherlock is jarred out of his arrogant “oh how cheesy John, thanks for living down to my expectations, God you’re so average, just as I suspected” mindset by John’s quiet “I don’t have to.” He was not expecting that, and he begins to see John as the fascinating enigma he is. 💖

Hi friends. I have noticed there’s a lot of negativity on my posts lately.

Almost every comment is nitpicking at whatever the post says. If you have any genuine issue with what I post, you are free to comment on it or message me, but that doesn’t seem to be what’s happening here. It seems like it’s a nitpicking contest. 

I posted an Elon Musk quote about how if you work 80 hours a week, you’ll be twice as far as someone who’s doing just 40. Instead of taking the post for the meaning of it, which is that sometimes you need to put the extra hours in to reach your goal, or that if you put that extra time in, you’ll go farther, all of the comments said things like “well I love my job but I’m not doing 80 hours weeks,” and “I can’t work 80 hour weeks because I have kids.”

I posted something about how it’s your fault if you’re bored. At least half the comments were about major depression. Being depressed and being bored are completely different things. You may describe the feeling of being depressed as being “bored” but you know damn well that they’re different. It’s honestly insulting that anyone would ever think that I meant that one annoying friend that has no hobbies and whines all the time is the same thing as serious mental illness.

I posted something about how if size mattered then the elephant would be king of the jungle. The POINT of the post is how it’s all about your drive and your gusto that matters. All of the comments are “well, what if the elephant doesn’t want to be king of the jungle” or “it’s not about measuring dick size.” First of all, no one brought up penises. Secondly, you’re completely missing the point.

My posts are meant to motivate. 

A lot of times, that means looking at the meaning behind the post.

Michael Jordan was successful. Does that mean you need to shoot 100 free throws every single day because he did it to be successful at your own small business? No. That’s ridiculous. It’s about putting the work in every single day and doing that would actually help you.

I really like to keep this blog as a place of positivity, where everyone can feel safe and it’ll get you motivated to go kick some butt today, but it’s turning into a really negative space.

So from now on, no more nitpicking. No more crappy comments.

This is a happy place, so bring a happy heart and a good attitude.

Reasons to Keep Writing

•everyone starts small. just because you’re not big now, doesn’t mean you’ll never be. and if you’re just starting out, keep in mind those bigger blogs have been writing for much longer than you. building a following takes time. 

•there will always be someone who enjoys your writing. every like, reblog, and comment is one person who enjoyed what you wrote and i can assure you they want more! and remember, not everyone remembers to leave evidence that they liked your writing or they might just be too nervous to interact with you. invisible fans exist, and you’ve got them.

•going along with that last one, your writing has the potential to help others! you could write about a minority, or maybe you could publish a little something comforting at the exact time someone else needs it. and most of the time, when you affect someone like this they’ll tell you, whether it be through tags, or a private message or whatever. that’s an amazing feeling.

•getting a compliment from someone becomes a sure-fire way to make your day better. nothing feels greater than seeing a comment from someone saying how much they love something you worked hard on. maybe write down these comments somewhere, so you can look at them when you’re feeling negative about your skills as a writer.  

•writer’s block is not the end of your writing career. it sure feels like it sometimes, but everyone, even the popular writers you look up to, suffer from writer’s block. everyone puts out work they’re not 100% satisfied with sometimes, and that’s okay! when you get out of this slump, your writing will be better than ever before and you’ll enjoy it again. keep writing through a block so you can get there sooner.

These are the things I think about when I feel bad about my writing, so I hope they can help someone else too.
