Season 2 Episode 1: Stay Gold Thoughts
Thoughts are in no particular order, and is in the order that I think of.
And here we are. I suppose the week delay is a bit fitting as the last episode of Season 1 came about on the first of July.
Wow, it's odd doing one of these text posts. I have 10 drafts of text posts that I didn't think we're good enough (theories that I myself didn't believe, so I didn't post them).
Let's get started on the episode as a whole.
I wouldn't say it was the strongest start to a new season. I'd say it played out too much like a normal episode, seeing as the entire main murder would probably not affect the rest of the season.
But alas, the first and original murder they were investigating seems to be something we will delve into for the rest of the season as TVW is a series main for the rest of the season?
(Also I feel like they were throwing the Van Winkle name around a lot for the jokes)
So TVW coming into the scene as a series regular, working on the Sleeping Beauties case. I wonder how they'll affect the Lizzan dynamic, because I love their dynamic. Also, if they drag him on for the whole season, I wonder how this subplot will carry on as Lizzan probably will continue solving various murders that pop up around New York. Will Lizzan play a role in investigating the Sleeping Beauties cases or continue on with regular cases as per S1? Technically they did hand it off to Harris, so we'll see.
They still have not explained this hair situation. Obviously since Dylandy are still on hold in getting a baby, not much time has passed (I keep thinking this gap is six months?). They gotta explain why they both had hair changes in what seems to be about a week or so gap between seasons.
Also who got emotional when Andy was holding their baby and thought it was theirs?
Also love how Andy defends his hubby when his husband is a true chaotic neutral.
Let's not forget Julian's base being invaded? I don't doubt that this has something to do with the Sleeping Beauties investigations OR Sosa. I honestly thought it was Dylan at first, but no.
Julizzie has officially set sail. Still salty about Hot Mechanic. HM was supposed to be Lizzie's rebound back into the dating game, and they completely forgot about him. I'd like an explanation, please. At least one line on how previously celibate Lizzie (post-Charlie death) meets HM and suddenly is DTF Julian immediately.
This has been consistent, but isn't it such a coincidence that some event happens that triggers Dylan to think of the ulterior motive of these murders? He just taught about narcissism the day before or something and the killer is conveniently a narcissist?
Julian coming in so strong into the Lizzan dynamic has got to stir up some drama, especially into the relationships between him and Dylan and Lizzie.
I hope they mention Sosa and bring his storyline in S2. That was such a mindfuck in S1.
The dynamic in the 11th Precinct is so pure. They roast each other constantly and it's hilarious and shows how much they get along.
My boy Doug is back and still the same, and I am here for it. ("Frozen dead lady!")
NYPD has serious cybersecurity issues despite working under the government. Seriously concerning.
Dylan and Lizzie having the same crush on a guy and not recognizing him despite making solid eye contact, and they must've had to notice his face even more as he could be a prime suspect after his tirade.
I just thought of this now, but Dylan didn't do his analysis thingy at all during this episode.
I was slightly disappointed that the motive for murder didn't have something to do with the irony of the Olympic swimmer drowning or the woman who sought immortality dying at a young age.
Also, when Lizzie mentioned that the name that was replaced on the calendar sounded familiar, the only guy I could think of was the security dude because they literally talked to no one else and the husband was too obvious.
I love the simultaneous eyerolling behavior of Julian and Andy during their respective partner's obsession over work. ("How is the sea bass?") I also appreciate that they had a double date, I thought that was really cute. I wonder if Andy knows about Julian's double life?
I appreciate that in this episode they didn't have Dylan completely change his entire mindset on kids as if he reset. They still incorporate the fact that humans don't turn overall new slate so easily, displaying Dylan as a regular human rather than a 13-year old girl's portrayal of robotic characters in her fanfiction. This hints back to the season one finale episode about Dylan and being a bit hesitant to have a child, which is expected seeing as not much time has passed.
I'm really hoping they pull another wildcard episode like "Bye Bye Birdie" and do a sudden dynamic change such as with Sosa as the evil guy.
Let's not forget Reuben Julian Cousins (?)
These are the thoughts that I've just thought of, leave some thoughts down below if you have any about this season premiere!
