MAKING ROCKY FROM SCRATCH - DAY 1 & 2

So I actually went insane and decided, why not make Rocky for my upcoming Ryland Grace cosplay?? And because I do not own a 3D printer, I just went for doing it from z e r o. So there you go, some process pics to follow my journey of blood, sweat, tears and burns from my heat gun 🪨

The base is ofc made of cardboard and tape. I suck at measurements so as usual I'm eyeballing it, I'm sure it's gonna bite me back in the long run

Leg making process: aluminium foil wrapped in unholy amounts of tape.

THE SKELETON IS DONE‼️‼️ And now his legs aren't sliding away weirdly, yippeee

Also I'm almost out of my 1km of duct tape, help

End of day 2, started making the part that's hardest to model (next to the legs), so that I don't ragequit when my motivation is dead. I burnt my fingers with hot worbla, but honestly this was the best choice of material for me, it's looking great already ✨

one thing from the phm book that didn't quite make it into the movie, quite understandably so but saddens me nonetheless, is just how much ryland was attached to ilyukhina. they became friends on stratt's vat, although it wasn't explicitly shown through the flashbacks. when he sees rocky's ship the first thing he thinks about is how ilyukhina would be jumping around and cheering about it. he constantly refers to how she had this bright smile and could make anyone crack a laugh with her jokes. even yao. when ryland first meets rocky and needs to go to sleep because he's been awake for two days, he immediately thinks about how ilyukhina would have powered through and stayed hours and hours and hours with him without needing to sleep because of how ecstatic she would have been. while he doesn't mention yao as much, ilyukhina is a constant. he remembers her as this smiling, wild beam of light. they were close. they were friends. and he has to deal with the fact that when he gave discovered her body and gave her this joke of a burial, he couldn't even remember the smile he loved so much.

i love the "grace somehow lives as long as an eridian" interpretations of the movie ending cuz i honestly think something like that could happen in cannon and it wouldn't feel out of place.

like they all are solomely accepting the fact that grace is going to die in like a scary amount of eridian years, and then as he gets to like 90 everyone is bracing for it, but he just...keeps aging. he keeps his mobility- if anything his back is getting worse cuz of the slightly increased gravity, and his health seems to be steady. on the day of graces 122nd birthday (the oldest a human has ever lived) the eridian scientists that study grace are like. hey. what the fuck. and grace is like ┐(´～｀ˇ)┌

1. Grace breeds Taumoeba, speedrunning its evolution.

2. Grace eats Taumoeba but who said it will stop evolving just because Grace thought it should?

3. Taumoeba evolves in Grace’s body, binding itself to his DNA as so many things have done before during our own evolution.

4. Grace becomes capable of consuming Astrophage (the most energy efficient organism in the known universe).

5. Grace’s organism becomes more energy efficient as well and therefore its internal structure ages a lot slower.

6. Magic happened, now Grace can live just as long as his best mate Rocky.
