You look like a Dave
I’m recently inspired to write about a case report most notably concerns of the heart. At the moment, I’m at this place teeming with experts of the heart so my mind has wandered to the very first person whom I thought could really use a cardiologist’s opinion, the one who is troubled by the status of his heart. He is but a recent acquaintance, a friend of a friend, so before we had the chance to meet in person, he was already introduced to me through quick mentions and in passing, therefore more or less I already have depicted an impression in my mind how he is as a person even before we’ve met personally. Interestingly so, I have depicted in my mind that he is a male who has the right sense and sensibility of the word masculine... When I finally had the pleasure of meeting this person, I did as best I could to stick to my first impression of him... but somewhere along our interchange of thoughts and information (which I shall be more reliable as it is first hand information) I’m seeing flag signs that although he is male physically I get this uncanny feeling that there’s more to it than meets the eye; though still at that time I keep on swallowing those thoughts so that they get digested in my stomach instead of registering in my brain.
“do not do unto others what you don’t want others do unto you”. For the most part of of my rambling thoughts, I have to chug my doubts far away. I hate to be judged so I’d rather not judge this soul based on my initial unconfirmed biases.
So snapping back to reality in PHC, during my first duty and for the first time in my existence I have witnessed a person on the brink of death, and a doctor trying to save his life using a defibrillator (for those who have my lost my trail of thoughts thinking what the hell is a defibrillator, just Google it). In its simplest sense, a defibrillator is a machine used to synchronize the beating of an incongruously beating heart. This is the typical depiction in movies and dramas when a defibrillator gets its spotlight once in a while when a person is being given a shock using that machine to keep him alive.
My mind goes back and forth and goes back to daydream again of that night, when that person blurted out suddenly after asking him something (which I couldn’t remember what I asked exactly). He plainly said directly to me with a hint of mild sorrow “Minsan parang gusto ko nalang maging babae para hindi ako nasasaktan” ( Sometimes I wish to become a girl so I wouldn’t get hurt) - to which I replied instinctively from past experiences “Mapa babae o lalake man, lahat ay nasasaktan” (Whether you’re a girl o boy, doesn’t exclude you from getting hurt). And although eventually he retracted his statement by his feeble attempt to say “Joke only”, I felt that he really meant it. As I have told you, matters of the heart, right? Perhaps his incongruous actions are the outcome of the incongruously beating heart and all he requires is sending a shock of adequate intensity right through his body to set his heart pumping regularly and his blood circulate properly as it should.
One cardiologist recently mentioned what is a case report in contrast with a case discussion. He only briefly mentioned in passing that a ‘case report’ reports about a rare case with a common symptom or a common case presenting with a rare symptom.
notoriously common thing right now, though this THING may already be rampantly going about as far back as history is concerned, only just now that the interest of ‘getting out of the closet’ is a major table discussion or newspaper or any form of media be it formal or informal . By the power vested in me by the Philippine Heart Center I therefore I have a duty to fulfill.
The Philippine Heart Center, ringing such a serious sound to it. Even the structure of the building is unmistakenly erected to be treated as a serious business. Even the people that roams this building walks and carries themselves with a degree of certainty and therefore serious business glitters before their very eyes. Anything that A solid impression that sticks stubbornly to whoever glances this way a facade that filters the mind of the medical team roaming inside the building to talk only of the essentials of the heart, nothing more and nothing less.
