talon is not in danger.
he could’ve been fooled by that much himself from how vivid the sensation had been, until he’d been swallowed up by throat-crushing fear and spit back into the waking world. eyelids heavy and fighting to stay open, his gaze is frozen on the ceiling, and so is he —- heart racing so fast and so hard that his chest aches, skin caked with sweat, and every bit of fear that’s left in him gathered at the back of his throat into a scream that’s too petrified to come out.
there’s only one nightmare that scares him, truly scares him ( it’s one thing to rehash the past, to go back to the worst of his memories; but this, this is different ) – and it’s the one with him in it, where the two of them are surrounded just by nothing. green, haunting eyes stare back at him as everything around them ceases to be, as even the ghosts of the world are stripped from it, and as he continues to exist regardless. alone, with… he doesn’t have a word for it. it’s not satan, and it’s not just a demon. whatever it is, it never lets him forget about a ‘bond’ that they have.
that scares him more than anything else.
when consciousness kicks into full gear, talon’s eyes widen and back straightens until he’s sitting up in bed, wordless and motionless. all that moves are his pupils as they search the dark, looking for what’s different – looking for why he doesn’t feel like he’s alone, and more importantly, looking to see if anything followed him here.
there’s nothing still, until sun appears. eyes coming into focus only then, they widen and blink with alarm as if to process his sudden appearance; then the moonlight from the window starts to illuminate more of his bedroom, and his shaking grip on the sheets in his lap loosens. talon’s gaze stays on him, unsure what to make of him being here – now. “ you – you’re here… ? ”
it’s not even morning yet when fear so intense makes sun shoot out of bed, clutching his chest like his heart might explode. he doesn’t know how to explain it, he never has -- the way pure fear feels. it rips through him like a tidal wave and he knows exactly who it’s coming from. talon. he’s probably one of his newest charges, and he’s also one that he cares about the most.
he’s not sure how it happened, maybe it had something to do with making it his personal mission to ensure talons safety, or maybe it was the fact that talon brought everything he ever thought he knew into question but it was just different with him. the feeling was different, the connection was different.
and right now his own special brand of angel grade panic was starting to set in at the level of fear he had in the forefront of his mind and his body. he barely managed to pull on a pair of shoes before he appeared in talons room. ( he also didn’t have time to change out of his ninja turtles pajama pants, but he had bigger fish to fry at the moment. )
but there talon is, wide eye’d and laying in bed like sun hadn’t just felt the most intense fear he’d ever felt in his life. but no, that’s not quite true. sun notices the grip on the sheets and the lingering fear. he notices talons posture, his facial expressions. before anything else, he tries to emit some sense of calm, to ease his whatever emotions might be lingering. he didn’t want talon to be scared.
he makes his way over, slowly. “i woke up and felt like my chest was about to explode, of course i’m here.” he runs a hand through his hair, sitting down on the edge of the bed. “are you okay? do you need anything?”
