so, i love the idea for this roleplay but once we started going, i struggled with it. and i am honestly not a fan of how i executed this concept. i just never really felt that i clicked with it. so, after much consideration, i’ve decided to close this roleplay and put my efforts into htgawh. thank you so much for joining! i hope y’all had fun!

okay so just wanted to pop in and give an official date. this joint will be officially opening on monday, june 17th. yay! *throws confetti*

we also still have half the characters open. i’m hoping our other usual suspects pop out of the woodwork and take some of them. i know i’ll take one of the guys, i just haven’t decided who yet. but if anyone wants to snag someone else, feel free!

all of the characters are now posted! yay! as i said, i wanted to keep this pretty small so there are twelve. however, if we do end up needing/wanting more i do have a potential second tier that i could add. but i guess it just depends on how much interest there is.

anyway, i struggled a bit with some of the portrayals because of time periods and ages and things. so absolutely feel free to change any of them you would like. period portayals are so hard to find. wow.

well, i guess that’s everything. i’m still thinking about opening dates. i’m going to say it’s going to be after june 15th though, because i have a huge festival for work and i’m going to be busy all of that week. so probably after that but i’ll post an official date here soon.

hope y’all like this idea! it’s kind of a weird one but i kind of like it. and i can’t wait to get started!!

ANASTASIA ROMANOV / alicia vikander (anna karenina) born: june 18, 1901 | disappeared: july 17, 1918 more information about disappearance

The youngest daughter of Tsar Nicholas II, the last sovereign of Imperial Russia.

While most historians believe Bolshevik revolutionaries killed the grand duchess of Russia in 1917 following the October Revolution, several women claimed her identity, along with the vast Romanov fortune held in Swiss banks. But because Anastasia's remains were never found, rumors persisted.

Held captive with the rest of her family and possibly murdered with them, Anastasia's supposed escape and possible survival was one of the most popular historical mysteries of the 20th century. At least ten women claimed to be her, offering varying stories as to how she had survived. One impostor contended that she had feigned death among the bodies of her family and servants, and was able to make her escape with the help of a compassionate guard who noticed she was still breathing and took sympathy upon her.

RAYMOND ROBINS / michael stuhlbarg (boardwalk empire) born: september 17, 1873 | disappeared: september 3, 1932 more information about disappearance (scroll a bit) and this too (kind of)

A noted economist and advocate of organized labor who worked with the White House on prohibition and establishing diplomatic relations with Russia.

On September 3, 1932, Robins had a meeting scheduled with President Herbert Hoover, but never showed up. He was last seen leaving the City Club in Manhattan. Robins’ disappearance made headlines, leading to speculation that he might have been the victim of organized crime, but there were also reported sightings of him acting strangely while wandering the streets of Chicago.

On November 18, Robins was discovered living under the name Reynolds H. Rogers in Whittier, a small town in the mountains of North Carolina. Robins had apparently arrived in the town one week after he disappeared, claiming that he was a miner from Kentucky. He lived in a boarding house, spent most of his time prospecting, and became a popular figure in the community. However, a 12-year-old boy recognized him from a photograph in the newspaper and contacted the authorities. Robins’ nephew went to Whittier to identify him, but Robins did not recognize him and had no memory of his previous life. After reuniting with his wife and undergoing psychiatric treatment, Robins finally started to regain his memory. It was speculated that a combination of stress and emotional strain might have caused Robins to enter a fugue state, prompting him to assume a new identity.

SOLOMON NORTHUP / chiwetel ejiofor (12 years a slave) born: july 10, 1807 | disappeared: c. 1857 more information about disappearance

A free born African American who was kidnapped and sold into slavery.

During the summer of 1857, Northup was in Canada for a series of lectures. It was widely reported that Northup was in Streetsville, Ontario, but that a hostile Canadian crowd prevented him from speaking. There is no contemporaneous documentation of his whereabouts after that time. The location and circumstances of his death are unknown. Rumors ran rife. In 1858, a newspaper reported, "It is said that Solomon Northup, who was kidnapped, sold as a slave, and afterwards recovered and restored to freedom has been again decoyed South, and is again a slave."

21st-century historians believe it is likely that he died of natural causes. They think a kidnapping for slavery in the late 1850s was unlikely, as he was too old to be of interest to slave catchers, but his disappearance remains unexplained.

JIMMY HOFFA / johnny depp (public enemies) born: february 14, 1913 | disappeared: july 30, 1975 more information about disappearance

An American labor union leader who became involved with organized crime.

Hoffa disappeared on Wednesday, July 30, 1975, from the parking lot of Red Fox restaurant in Bloomfield Township, a suburb of Detroit. He had told others he was going there to meet with two Mafia leaders. At 2:15 p.m., an annoyed Hoffa called his wife from a pay phone and complained, "Where the hell is Tony Giacalone? I'm being stood up." His wife told him that she hadn't heard from anyone. He told her he would be home at 4 p.m.

Several eyewitnesses saw Hoffa standing by his car and pacing the restaurant's parking lot. Two men saw Hoffa emerge from the Red Fox after a long lunch and recognized him. At 7 a.m. the next day, Hoffa's wife called her son and daughter by telephone, saying that their father had not come home.  At 7:20 am Hoffa's unlocked car was found in the parking lot, but there was no sign of Hoffa or any indication of what had happened to him. Years of extensive investigation, involving numerous law enforcement agencies including the FBI, came to no definite conclusion. The case continues to be the subject of rumor and speculation.

ANGELA HAYES / taissa farmiga (anything modern) born: january 17, 1994 | disappeared: june 3, 2015

An American college student who mysterious disappeared.

On June 3, 2015, 21 year old Ohio University student Angela Hayes disappeared without a trace after telling her roommate she was taking a long walk. The night before, she’d been out partying with her friends. After receiving a disturbing phone call, Angela went out to clear her head. She was never seen again.

Despite possible leads that included the arrest and conviction of a man for killing another Ohio U student in 2016, there have been no updates on Hayes. However, a man who was potentially the one arrested in connection with another crime bragged to locals in a bar that he knew where Angela’s body was buried but he couldn’t lead police to the grave site. When arrested for the other murder, this connection to Angela was denied and no one knows what really happened to her.

OWEN GLENDOWER / benedict cumberbatch (the hollow crown) born: c. 1359 | disappeared: c. 1412 more information about disappearance

The last true Prince of Wales; a rebel who fought to end English rule in Wales.

On 16 September 1400, Glyndŵr instigated the Welsh Revolt against the rule of Henry IV. The uprising was initially very successful and rapidly gained control of large areas of Wales, but it suffered from key weaknesses. The uprising was eventually suppressed by the superior resources of the English. Glyndŵr was driven from his last strongholds in 1409, but he avoided capture and the last documented sighting of him was in 1412.

Nothing certain is known of Owain after 1412. Despite enormous rewards being offered, he was neither captured nor betrayed. He ignored royal pardons. Tradition has it that he died and was buried possibly in the church of Saints Mael and Sulien at Corwen close to his home, or possibly on his estate or on the estates of his daughters' husbands.

PERCY FAWCETT / charlie hunnam (the lost city of z) born: august 18, 1867 | disappeared: may 29, 1925 more information about disappearance and this too (scroll a little)

A British geographer, cartographer, archaeologist, and explorer of South America who is thought to be the inspiration for Indiana Jones.

In 1925, with funding from a London-based group of financiers known as the Glove, Fawcett returned to Brazil with his eldest son Jack and Jack's best and longtime friend, Raleigh Rimell, for an exploratory expedition to find "Z"—his name for an ancient lost city which he and others believed existed in the jungles of Brazil. . Fawcett left instructions stating that if the expedition did not return, no rescue expedition should be sent lest the rescuers suffer his fate.

Many people assumed that local Indians killed them, as several tribes were nearby at the time. The Kalapalos were the last tribe to have seen them. It’s believed that Fawcett's party of three was too few to survive in the jungle, and his expectation that his Indian hosts would look after them was likely to have antagonized them by failing to bring any gifts to repay their generosity. Over the years, more than a dozen expeditions have looked for Fawcett—but none have been able to prove what happened to him.

AMELIA EARHART / hayley atwell (captain american the first avenger) born: july 24, 1897 | disappeared: july 2, 1937 more information about disappearance

An American aviation pioneer; the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.

During an attempt to make a circumnavigational flight of the globe in 1937 in a Purdue-funded Lockheed Model 10-E Electra, Earhart and navigator Fred Noonan disappeared over the central Pacific Ocean.

On July 2, 1937, Earhart and Noonan took off from Lae Airfield in the heavily loaded Electra. Their intended destination was Howland Island. Around 3 pm Lae time, Earhart reported her altitude as 10000 feet but that they would reduce altitude due to thick clouds. Around 5 pm, Earhart reported her altitude as 7000 feet and speed as 150 knots. Their last known position report was near the Nukumanu Islands, about 800 miles into the flight. Fascination with Earhart’s life, career, and disappearance continues to this day.

ELEANOR DARE / anya taylor-joy (the witch) born: c. 1568 | disappeared: before august 18, 1590 more information about disappearance and this too

Mother of the first English child born in the New World.

Eleanor Dare was a member of the Roanoke Colony and the daughter of John White, the colony's governor. It is known that she gave birth to Virginia Dare, the first child of English parents born in North America, on August 18, 1587, shortly after their arrival, and that, along with everyone else in the "Lost Colony", she disappeared while her father went to get supplies back in England.

From 1937 until 1941, the so-called "Dare Stones" were in the news. The carved stones were allegedly found in northern Georgia and the Carolinas. The first bore an announcement of the death of Eleanor's daughter, Virginia Dare and her husband, Ananias Dare, at the hands of "savages" in 1591. Successive stones describe Eleanor's eventual marriage to an Indian and her death. Most of the stones were exposed as forgeries in 1941, however the first "Dare Stone" is still considered authentic by some scholars. It is still unknown what became of Eleanor and the rest of the Roanoke colonists.

D.B. COOPER / jon hamm (mad men) born: unknown | disappeared: november 24, 1971 more information about disappearance

Known for hijacking a Boeing 727 aircraft in the Northwest United States.

He extorted $200,000 in ransom and parachuted to an uncertain fate. Despite an extensive manhunt and protracted FBI investigation, the perpetrator has never been located or identified. It remains the only unsolved case of air piracy in commercial aviation history.

The suspect purchased his airline ticket using the alias Dan Cooper, but because of a news media miscommunication he became known in popular lore as “D. B. Cooper”. Available evidence and a preponderance of expert opinion suggested from the beginning that Cooper probably did not survive his high-risk jump, but his remains were never recovered. No definitive conclusions have been reached regarding Cooper’s true identity or whereabouts.
