Stocklist Proposed Documentary Trailer

Stocklist is a multimedia exploration on the informal collection of objecthood in Hong Kong. Speaking to si-dor owners, community organisers and entrepreneurs, this project reveals new collections, archival and exchange methodologies of objects within the dense domestic landscape of the consumer culture Hong Kong.

Manifesto 1:Stocklist

1, Curation. 

 Our research is interested in the notion of home, objecthood and informal collection which occurs within our domestic landscape. We aim to record the process of collection, archive and exchange - informal curation and the stories behind these objects in creating what becomes our home in Hong Kong.

2, Home.

The geography of the home is a contested condition in Hong Kong. We are situated in crossroads of reinventing notions of the self, the district and of the Greater Bay Area. Within the space of this 50 years of the in-between, the home facilitated by the unclear future, the cost of domestic space has increased in price exponentially. 

With an ever-increasing rental market, home has become a fleeting background. The objects that make up our home become an unconscious assemblage process.

3, Object.

Objecthood describes not only the physical object itself (foreground), but also the context (background). Due to our constantly constrained living conditions, our experiences are intimately linked to what, how and why objects are orientated around us. We are interested in exploring the unconscious assemblage process that we all participate in our private realm. 

4, Informal Curation

This reveals the constant negotiation and assemblage between the objects and our living spaces. The domestic environment has now shifted from an architectural ideology to an object-orientated space. Our dense living environment of Hong Kong culminated with the constant surrounding of objects formulates into an ideal context to explore this notion of informal curation.
