Does William know you better than anyone else? Do you have faith that he loves you?
“Yes, he does. William has become very privy to almost every little secret that I carry, and yet I can’t possibly hope for him to know every dark corner of my being in one lifetime. There’s simply not enough time in one human life for it to happen, but… I have told him of what I feel is necessary, not to mention only fair, for him to know.
I wanted him to know that an inhuman being had come to love him, that I’ll never truly be able to understand or appreciate things as he does, the same as I expect that he’ll never truly be able to view the world as I do. I wish things could be different, so that we could be on level ground with one another, but despite all of my faults and… flaws, you might call them, he still chose to have me.
William sees me as no other does, and sometimes I hate it, because I know I’ll be destroyed when he’s gone. Some days I wish he would change his mind, abandon me and leave me in the dust, simply to save myself the heartache that I know is waiting with every breath he takes. I don’t fear him not loving me, I fear the torment that will come from his having loved me when he passes.”
A monster is not such a terrible thing to be. From the Latin root monstrum, a divine messenger of catastrophe, then adapted by the Old French to mean an animal of myriad origins: centaur, griffin, satyr. To be a monster is to be a hybrid signal, a lighthouse: both shelter and warning at once.

Finish the sentence in my inbox.
“I want you to…” “Why didn’t you tell me…” “I wanted to tell you…” “Have you ever…” “What do you think of…”
"I love you." The word is muffled, yet repeated at least two more times, as if Joe is trying to reassure himself of it. He knows they're heavy words, knows what a commitment it is to say them, but he can't bear not to when his kind is reeling so drastically. His fingers curl into William's back, gripping so tight they threaten to tear fabric.
He stills. Breathes out, hiding a wince when Joe clutches at him. William shifts his own hands up Joe’s back, holding him closer. He closes his eyes. It shouldn’t be like this. He should find some measure of joy in those words. But so should Joe. It shouldn’t be such a tattered thing dragged out, weighed down by anguish.
“… I know.” When or where or how he realized it doesn’t matter now—only that it’s become a truth as certain and unquestionable as nightfall. “I love you too. You do not ever have to doubt that.”
"I... " He hesitates, voice shaking before he swallows thickly, before arms wrap around William tightly, head hiding against his shoulder. It wasn't difficult to feel how badly he was shaking. "Please... please don't abandon me."
William doesn’t hesitate. He returns the embrace without a thought otherwise, letting Joe sink into him, steadying himself against the way his heart wrenches at seeing Joe in such a state, a sharpness which narrows the world to him, only him. “Never,” he whispers, promises, then repeats to drive the waver from his voice before pressing a kiss to Joe’s temple. “Never.” As much as he wants to take Joe’s hands in his, to vow to the quicksilver of his eyes—he knows moving away is the last thing he should do right now.
"William?"
“Yes…?”
what's it like to be such a disappointment to your father, william?
I—
You know nothing about him.
does your boyfriend's disgusting affliction not bother you in the least? he kills people and eats them. what's to stop him from doing the same to you?
Alors te voilà. Still hiding, hm?
It does bother me. If I pretended otherwise, I would be doing both of us a disservice. But I trust him when he says it is a compulsion that he cannot control, and I trust him when he says he will not turn on me. That is what stops him.
If you cannot comprehend how, then perhaps you should shut your mouth.
“To the one harassing Joe: you appear to be mistaken about what fear is. Come out of the shadows, and I will teach you its meaning.”
