              foot falls hurriedly across the cold terrain ; rapid heart beats thumping inside her small chest. upon seeing the brunette ; eleven falters in her pace, wordlessly eyeing the other prudently.

     it felt eerie coming back here,   but cutting through MIRKWOOD was how he got home ... and maybe if he HADN’T taken so long getting ready to leave the wheeler’s,    he would be in the same position as will.  but the FACT is he did take too long, and so will left without him and subsequently disappeared.       they didn’t ride their bikes home as a PAIR, but as two separate parties.       they split up, just like THAT TIME when the trolls picked off their characters one by one     ( NEITHER of the four boys able to agree on which path to take, therefor going their own ways ), and joey feels partially responsible.    he’s THE OLDEST of the boys, in eighth grade with an early birthday in SEPTEMBER.        and though no one ever put him in CHARGE,                    he knew he was looked at by the adults to hold some responsibility.  but he hadn’t.  and NOW here he is,  face to face with another kid   ...   just not the kid in the back of his mind,        he had HOPED it would be.

         ❛ — now ? we can’t go now ! ❜           they don’t even have a PLAN ... and if joey knew anything from having mike wheeler as a GM, then he knew that a plan ... ?   was what was going to save their asses.  though comparing this to D&D wasn’t really appropriate, no this was a little boy wanting to ‘RESCUE’ his little brother from some very likely,    bad people. god, joey wasn’t EVEN remotely ready for this — but who else was going to do it?         the whole town was falling apart by now!     AT LEAST, the part of town that joey knows.     his house, and the byers.
