SEND ME A ▲FOR AN UNPOPULAR OPINION.
I don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion since I have been seeing a few people hint or even openly saying the same thing for a while now, but it’s definitely a CONTROVERSIAL opinion: I am so sick and tired of this ‘receipt’ culture on Tumblr. Users are made to feel like they constantly have to walk on eggshells whenever they post an opinion, and have to recheck their posts several times before actually posting them to make sure they don’t receive hate.
This MOB MENTALITY is very tiring and one of the main reasons why I left my main blog, even though it was doing so well that I had over 60k followers. I have seen some of my friends get vicious hate for the most benign opinions. One of them left their blog like me after receiving threats for refusing a request from a blogger ( whom they had never met ) about reblogging one of the said user’s body positivity posts— even though she explained it wasn’t because she disliked body positivity, but simply because she didn’t like reblogging posts outside of her main fandom, which was Tolkien’s Legendarium. Another one received UNREAL amount of vitriol from half of the ASOIAF fandom for saying, wait for it, he doesn’t think Sansa Stark is an interesting character.
I haven’t been to the political / non-rp / fandom part of Tumblr for many months now so I don’t know if things have calmed down but judging by a few posts I see from time to time, it doesn’t look like it has. But I am really tired of this RIDICULOUS Tumblr mentality and truly hope that anyone who participates in these ‘online mobs’ gets a reality check very soon. It’s not okay to harass people ( and have your friends join in ) because you disagree with their opinions. Get real.
